Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Charming little ice cream and snack spot. The soft serve is very creamy and delicious and the hard ice cream is wonderful, too. Lots of flavor choices and generous portions at a good value. Nice little playground and two adult-size porch-style swings plus picnic tables make this a great spot for families or a date.

So many choices of ice cream flavors, as well as soft serve. They give small spoonfuls as a free sample. Covered picnic tables. Reasonable prices.

The big Dipper is the official ice cream spot of the Alfred Almond area. Besides some of the very best Ice cream, it is the weekend BBQ spot also. Dick & Cheryl's knows their Ice cream and has made the Big Dipper geared towards the community by having the ice cream that is favored around here. But They really know BBQ and every weekend, you can get really great BBQ plates. A lot of the area would wish that the BBQ was daily but then maybe he wouldn't sell it like he does on the weekend.
Two things new people need to know about the Big Dipper. They don't take credit cards (but they take checks) and he is only open seasonally. I honestly think that's what drives his business. A great ice cream spot and darn good pitmaster too.
Prices on his ice cream are the same as most other ice cream vendors in the area.

Stopped by this little place on the way to Wellsville. Quite the wide selection of flavors and the servings are HUGE. Had a fun play area for the kids with multiple playsets outside. Had lots of outdoor space covered and uncovered available.
Only downside is they are cash only. Luckily we were able to scrape together enough to pay.

We found Big Dipper on Trip Advisor when planning our vacation route. Our goal was to eat at as many small, family-owned places as possible. Big Dipper is a few minutes off I-86 in Almond. It is a fun little place with a friendly staff. We stopped July 1 for lunch. The cool yard art added to the wonderful atmosphere. You eat outside under cover. It poured rain for a bit while we ate, and we stayed nicely dry, even with a breeze pushing the rain. I had a local special, "Big Dipper's BBQ Sundae". I asked the young lady at the window if it was dangerous, and she said, "Definitely!" It was GREAT! My wife was pleased with her choice, pulled pork sandwich loaded with home made cole slaw. For desert we each got two scoops of ice cream. There were over 36 varieties of ice cream. Be prepared! The scoops are humongous! My wife got hers on a cone. That is hairy! I got a scoop of Oregon Blackberry Cheesecake and one of Peanut Butter Cup in a cup, which made the monsters easier to eat! We will definitely come back if we come through the area.

Traveled to see the Bicycle Man in Alfred New York and found Dick and Cheryl’s Big Dipper and what a find it is. On the weekends, they also do BBQ. I got their macaroni and tuna salad. It was really good. They make their own, it isn’t out of a big commercial bucket. I was amazed at their prices and serving sizes, lots of good food for a good price. Now for the really good part, ice cream. Boyfriend and I got different flavors of Perry ice cream. He got a single scoop, I got a double of different flavors. There was a party in my mouth with each bite. I wanted to cry when it was all gone. It is yummalicious, I am thinking of making the 8-hour round trip drive to experience the goodness. I am going to hunt down where Perry ice cream is sold in my area.
