Best Khao soi in town, we had lunch there with 4 dishes: Khao soi with chicken, Som Tum, beef noodle and sweet, I had two bowl of Khao soi, too delicious, I have eaten Khao soi in few places prior to come to this restaurant...and I have to say; This the best Khao soi so far.
the restaurant is without any fancy, set up mainly for the local, no A/C, fan only, service is quick. we will comeback when we are in Chiang RaiMore
I've eaten Khao Soi at several places in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. This one is pretty good and popular with the locals.
However, in Chiang Rai my favorite is still ข้าวซอยสมควร (WR6P+HP on Google Maps), but they're only open weekdays.
Very basic, typical Thai eatery. They do not greet you with any sugar-coated sawatdee, but they are certainly not unfrieldly either. I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl of khao soi. Just the right level of spice, and the chicken was cut off the bone and tender....Dealing with a drumstick immersed in hot broth is a pain anyway. As for those who say it isn't as good as Chiang Mai khao soi, well each region has their own version. Be fair and compare to other shops in Chiang Rai, otherwise it's just competing with what you think the dish is supposed to taste like. Go to Laos and order the same dish, and you'll see they make it without coconut milk, a very different flavor. Enjoy it for what it is, tasty curry, and enjoy this restaurant for what it is, an inexpensive (40b per bowl) tasty treat.More
As many have mentioned the service is most definitley not what you come here for. It’s almost comical how much they ignore you. Just go and find yourself a seat. Menu has few items but there are pics and is in English.
Given how few...items they have, and that it’s called khao soi, I was really hoping for some incredible khao soi. I found it to be average at best. Decent amount of chicken but the broth wasn’t spicy enough. There is some spicy sauce on the side so maybe they expect you to do it to taste? I had better khao soi in the Chang Mai night market, and even better at Khao Soi Maesai just outside of Chiang Mai’s old city.
Having said all that it’s cheap and quick. 40 baht for the dish.More
There's no beating around the bush; the staff can seem grumpy at times. That being said, the food here is of the highest echelon, and we've eaten here three days in a row for either breakfast or lunch. The Khao Soi makes the seemingly grumpy...nature of the staff more than tolerable, and there's no way I could rate this food less than 5 stars.
For best results, I've found it's easiest to order directly at the main counter and then wait for the staff to bring the food to you. I still can't promise that doing so will make the experience seem friendlier, but it certainly can't hurt. Pay at the same counter when you're done, laugh off the rest, and enjoy a hot bowl of amazing food.
Bonus tip: for those Khao Soi fanatics like me who can eat this meal at all times of the day, there's a stall in the daily night bazaar near the northeast corner that sells amazing Khao Soi for dinner (when Phor Jai is closed, otherwise I wouldn't mention it with this review). The stall has a lightbox sign that says "Pad Thai," and a large list of options to choose from. The dish is not called "Khao Soi" on the English menu - it's called "curry noodle soup with chicken" - but I can tell you, for sure, it's Khao Soi on the same level as Phor Jai (albeit slightly more expensive at 60 baht).More
Stopped here based on a locals recommendation & it didn’t disappoint. 40thb for a generous portion with lots of flavour & crunch. Just the right level of spice. Had Khao soi before & it didn’t live up to this standard - give it a go!
Great Khao soi, great value, underpriced really, fast service, took less than 1 minute to my table, beer available next door, atmosphere nothing to be amazed at, but clean, will return, I went there not hungry and their Khao soi is a finalist for best...ever, and I have had a lotMore
Feels like time stood still when I returned to this shop three years later. Food is still as good - had the khao soi on two mornings. Staff still not very smiley but you’re really here for the food after all. The ice coffee with...milk is not bad too. Will come back again!More
