What can I say about this place other than what is in the title of this review....I have always been a fan of Asian cuisine and i have gone longing while living in the Capital Region. Sure, there are some restaurants that are good, but there are none that make that leap to GREAT. We decided to come to Hu's House because I had a craving for soup dumplings and had been disappointed at the other area restaurants dumpling selection. We came in here and ordered the pork juicy buns and the pork and crab juicy buns. They were INCREDIBLE. The soup inside the dump was perfectly seasoned and the meat perfectly tender. We had to come back and explore the menu more. On our second visit, we branched out a little and ordered something to go along with our soup dumplings. Their spicy shredded beef and crispy beef dish along with all of their noodle dishes were excellent. The food is extremely cheap yet the restaurant is immaculate and the service premier. It is worth the trip! 10/10!

Why this place is rated as #70 in the Albany Colonie area is beyond me. This is the best restaurant in the Capital District! Read Sean K’s review. It’s better than I could do. If something is not familiar, recall an older advertisement, “try it, you’ll like it”. My personal favorites are the scallion pancakes, honey walnut shrimp and crispy fried flounder. It’s sad to see the less is more dining room with well spaced tables that allow for quality family conversation empty but please consider take out. This is where we take our guests who have lived all over the world to get an over the top meal. We’ve eaten in top flight Michelin starred restaurants. Hu’s house is right up there. Try it for take out, even if Corona keeps you out of the dining room!

It’s a bit difficult to find the restaurant as the front sign is very small. I can say the food is authentic Chinese. Not American Chinese food you may be expecting. The prices were reasonable. I had the General Tso’s with stir fried chicken (instead of deep fried). I asked for not too spicy and it was delicious. The appetizer of vegetable steamed dumplings with peanut sauce was very good as well. We asked for not too spicy. I must say it packed a punch so beware. Their traditional specialty dishes are a bit misleading so read the menu carefully. We mistakenly thought we were getting shrimp with beef tenderloin. We ended up with shrimp and beef tendons!!!! Needless to say we did not eat the dish. Hence the warning to read the description of dishes carefully. We went on a Wednesday night and almost all the tables were occupied. The service wasn’t bad. 1 waiter for all of the tables so there could be some waiting time. Reservations are recommended. All in all an enjoyable dinner. Worth the visit if you’re in the area and you can find the place!!!

The food was ready for pickup when I got there. The people were pleasant. We had scallion pancakes, steamed shrimp dumplings, scallops & bok choy, shrimp with honeyed walnuts, & brown rice. Plenty of food for the three of us. The dumplings were great. The scallops were very good, but could use more of the white sauce. The pancakes & shrimp were dry & lacked flavor. Could not taste the scallions in the pancakes. The 'walnuts' were actually pecans, which were tasty. It's too bad none of the flavor made it into the breaded & fried shrimp. Perhaps other dishes have more flavor & some zip.

We’ve eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed their authentic Shanghai food. This time for lunch we had vegetarian duck and stewed gluten appetizers, soup dumplings and pot stickers, lastly “Dong Po” pork (pork belly). Very nice! Service was good as usual. Ample free parking.

The WORST restaurant service i ever had in my life…and i mean every word of it!!! We went here for dinner becausw Hongkong bistro is close and i Ala Shanghai would be a bit of a drive from where we are and my kid is really hungry…we went here because the reviews are quite good.. i would say the food is almost the same taste as Ala shanghai in latham, same price as well…i usually dont leave any bad review for any establishment especially restaurants especially post pandemic…i tried to be very understanding and empathic to these owners but i just can’t let this pass 1. We are seated in the corner where all sort of boxes are, the bar has an aquarium with moldy water, papers all over the bar, looks like the place needs some cleaning. 2. There are two staff, probably the owners..i understand they may need to cut on staff and we waited patiently cause they look very busy…the guy is the server, cashier, order taker cleaner etc and the girl also does the serving and take outs…so we waited patiently for our order to be taken and serve as well as of the bill…the restaurant is not even full at that time but i guess if its only the two of you doing everything it would really cause staffing issues 3. I ask for napkins and it took me twice to ask for TWO extra napkins. 4. We were given one glass of water and was never even offered a refill until we left 5. I ask containers to go, let me tell you i paid more than $100 for this meal…the guy gave me 4 small round black containers…i have four dishes to bring YES but the two dishes are big servings and wont really fit in the container…but the guy said i will do it, he tried very hard to fit the pan fried noodles to the rim in the small container and i tried to fit the duck in one container and it wont even close…i showed the guy it wont close but just ignored me…i dont know how much is that black round container that this guy wont give just one more despite me asking for it cause the food does not really fit 6. I usually give a 20% gratuity anywhere i dine, i give tip to my cable guy, my hairdresser, i even give gifts to our garbage collectors on holidays because i appreciate all the service worker…BUT this place is the worst in service and they really made me so upset and gave me indisgestion…i gave a $5 tip, yes $5 for my over $100+++ bill…this is not my usual and this is the first time i gave a tip below 15% because i was really offended by this guy over one black round container despite us being so patient and understanding of the wait time and neglect we receive….AND the nerve of this owner to come out and follow me in my car and question why i only gave $5 and telling me it is not even the basic tipping amount, and i said yes i know it is not because gratuity is given for basic service which we did not receive..i have never seen such rudeness in my life…i feel offended and threaten by this guy from this restaurant, i could have called the cops for him following me and my family to our car and acting aggressively over tip he doesnt even deserve We will definitely not come to this place…If you want the same food just go to Ala shanghai in latham, same food minus the rudeness and bad service

Went with the Chinese exchange student we hosted a year ago. He picked some dishes that were fantastic. so, if he liked them, must be good! Lots of fun.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. We ate with another couple who had dined there previously. We shared appetizers (which were good, but not great) and then ordered our own main courses. I was intrigued by the listing of Cumin Lamb on the menu. I had associated cumin with Mexican cuisine, and sure enough, this dish (although tasty and of very good quality), could have been served in a Mexican restaurant, and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. If you are looking for "authentic" Chinese food, I would recommend Shining Rainbow as the better alternative.

Nice hidden old school restaurant. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but smells great as soon as you walk in and you are greeted warmly and feel welcomed right away. It doesn't have Chinese noodles on the tables, or typical egg rolls, etc, but there is a quite varied, unique menu. We tried some new things, as well as some favorites, and everything was delicious! Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive, as well. We will definitely be back!

From the outside, Hu's House doesn't look like anything special. The interior decor isn't very inspiring either. This is because Hu's House has obviously decided to focus their attention elsewhere; preparing and serving some of the BEST food, anywhere! The menu is extensive, and at first can be a bit overwhelming, partially because it isnt laid-out like a typical Chinese menu. Also, you're going to see some "weird" things on it, at least by the standards of the typical Lucky-Golden-Budda-Panda-Dragon-Wall take-out/food court place. Relax, take your time, and treat it like a great novel, and order at least one thing you've never seen before. You WON'T be disappointed! Everything is fresh, and expertly prepared. I been to most of the "Chinatowns" from coast to coast, and Hu's House stands among the best places I've ever been fortunate enough to eat at. The service is efficient, freindly and professional, but it's the food you'll remember long after you've left. Go there! Be adventurous with you selections! You won't be disappointed! Just one thing, if is menu says a dish is spicy, it really is spicy. They're giving a heads-up, not stroking your ego! But enough of this! Why are reading this when you should be eating there?

This was our second visit to Hu's House, and it was every bit as excellent as the first. Every dish was authentic, delivered hot and tasty, with attentive-but-not-obtrusive service. The presence of substantial numbers of Asian patrons, both couples and families, is further testament to the skill of the kitchen and the staff's hospitality. We will return.

I thought the only place in the area for this kind of food was in Latham. What a great surprise. EVERYTHING we ordered was spot on. The soup dumplings (juicy buns) were big, full of filling and broth, delicious. The aster salad was great. The wontons in hot sauce were great. The cucumbers with garlic were great. Both flounder entrees (one lightly breaded and fried, one like a stew with Capsella) were perfectly cooked. The crispy shredded beef...yum! A big bowl of spicy soup with beef was really good. This place is great!

A fun, first visit to Hu's House on Chinese Lunar New Year Feb. 8, 2019. This is a very traditional Shanghai style restaurant. Full of families. A mix of Americans & Americans of Chinese descent. Some familiar w/ this style of cuisine ordered family style for their tables. Round table tops come in various sizes to accommodate the number of guests in different size parties - genius. There are also booths around the perimeter. Note: this was previously Bangkok Bistro - an funky bar & restaurant. The new Hu's House has eliminated the bar and gives it's full attention to traditional Shanghaiese food. Full house on this Friday evening around 6:00pm. Very good waitstaff but no no name tags. A round of hot tea and some beers to start. We had a party of five, more people the more dishes you can sample & share. Also as this is the Year of the Pig we went heavy on pork dishes. These are some of the very good dishes we enjoyed: sweet & sour pork ribs (app) - slippery little chopped pieces of ribs, not the larger ribs you may have had other places, scallion pancake (4) app w/ soy/ginger sauce, Gen. Tso chicken w/ chili peppers, garlic beef w/ peppers, double cooked pork w/ vegetables, and pork meatballs (4). All prepared well and served hot. Plenty to take home for another meal for each of us. Apps, soups, and dumplings, & juicy soup buns are $8-12. Entrees are $12-36. The more expensive entrees are those you won't find at most Chinese restaurants e.g. sea cucumber, crabs, pig intestine, and many whole fish dishes. Hours are M, Tu, Th, Fr, Sat 11:00am-10:pm, Sun 12-10pm, closed Wed. This is a must visit for real food adventurers in the Capital District of NY. The authenticity is the main attraction. And remember more guests = more samplings. Enjoy. Gung Hay Fat Choi (Happy New Year) and thank you.
