Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Lovingly prepared food awaits you at Cafe Sierra Negra. Breakfast is served all day, though we opted for the spinach crepes, because I always judge a restaurant by whether a crepe is really a crepe or more like a tortilla. This did not disappoint and came hot to the table. My companion had tacos and only allowed me a small sample, but found a tasty sauce under the meat and even brought one home. Try it. Excellent service. Buena gente. Good social distancing and tables outside. We will be back.

After spending our morning hiking near Abiquiu in the Chama River Canyon along with a visit to the Monastery of Christ in The Desert we were traveling back to Santa Fe and came across this spectacular, very clean and comfortable restaurant. The lunch menu was very nice, something for everyone with a focus on healthy options. One of us enjoyed the vegetarian stuffed poblano pepper served with a side of delicious slaw and the other selection was a robust turkey, ham and cheese sandwich, served with slaw, potato salad and chips. Finished the lunch with a tasty brownie. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful restaurant that is not to be missed. Excellent food, charming waitstaff. The vegetarian options are numerous and loved by all in our group. They even have special parking areas that are shaded and researched for cars with dogs. You need to watch carefully for this restaurant as it can easily be missed. We had breakfast and dinner here and both were worth repeating, but our travel schedule only allowed us to repeat breakfast. Just a tip: the carrot cake and cheesecake need to be experienced. Order them for any meal because the locals know to get them early and often and when they are consumed they drop off the menu for the rest of the day.

Wonderful meal out side with friends. Friendly and personable staff. I ordered shrimp tacos but didn't like the dill sauce so switched with my husband and loved the spicy meatloaf , mashed potatoes and green beans. He loved the tacos. All was tasty and ambience was warm and homey. I will come again.

We dined here after reading the positive reviews. I had the green chile pork stew which was served with delicious bread. My husband had the sausage and pasta dish which apparently was microwaved just prior to serving. The contents were unevenly heated throughout. This was a disappointment considering the "we serve fresh food" reputation of the establishment. No worries. We didn't leave hungry!

Real SW cuisine homemade and delicious! We shared the roasted poblano relleno filled with brown rice, corn and black beans, with a spicy red chile sauce expertly reduced to deep red ecstasy; and the roasted portabella mushroom filled with polenta with peppers and a roasted summer tomato sauce; both with homemade slaw. Topped it off with dark chocolate/walnut brownie and good strong coffee - yum. Then we ordered spanikopita/empanatas and chocolate-chip/oatmeal/dried cranberry cookies for tonight's dinner and fresh-baked cinnamon pecan praline coffee cake for tomorrow morning. Since lunch was perfect, there's no reason to expect less from the takeout dishes. Friendly service, beautiful interior with great ventilation or plenty of outdoor seating available. As a bonus, check out the P'oshu'owingeh national monument / ancient pueblo hike across the road.

We got takeout twice here during our one week vacation. Healthy delicious meals prepared with love. Salad and empanadas were tasty. Carrot cake tasted like grandma baked it. Vegetable lasagna and green chile stew were also good. Felt like we were eating healthy homemade food. This lady can cook!

Homey atmosphere and outstanding food selections at this wonderful cafe. Salads are so fresh that they just zing! We had the hamburger, fish tacos and shrimp enchiladas—all were done creatively with tasty ingredients. Everything tastes homemade in the best way possible. Do not leave without trying the baked goods—we shared a moist and flavorful carrot cake and took a sour cream, cinnamon coffee cake to accompany our morning coffee. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Just wish this cafe was open more days a week.

Such a cute little place in Abiquiu. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and even took time to chat with us. We stopped in for an early dinner, and loved every minute. Mr. B started with a Boxing Bear Brewing, Chocolate Milk Stout beer, I had a glass of Justin Sauvignon Blanc, one of my favorite wineries and wine. We settled on our dinner's and Mr. B went with the special of the night, Chicken Tacos. These were not your typical Chicken Tacos, they were packed full of fresh ingredients and incredible Southwest Spices. I went with the Roasted Poblano Relleno. A fresh poblano chile was roasted, stuffed with quinoa, corn, black beans, and shallots topped with melted pepper jack cheese. The pepper was resting in house made red sauce and on the side was a crispy cabbage slaw with chopped mango for some sweetness. There is plenty of parking, a small outdoor patio if you so choose. But the day we visited as soon as we were seated it started pouring rain. We absolutely loved this spot in Abiquiu.

The best espresso and best burger I’ve had in a long time. The green chili burger with chipotle mayo was a special, so cross your fingers. What an excellent meal and wonderful service in this quaint place. I’d return in a heartbeat.

We had a really excellent meal there. Super friendly staff. A beautiful space with interesting art. And the food was extremely well prepared with all components having thoughtful touches. Really gourmet actually, far more than expected in quality.

New Mexico is our favorite destination (we live in Georgia) and one of the things which keeps bringing us back is the food. Dishes made with red and green New Mexico chiles are our favorites and, without any hesitation, I have to say that Chef Melodie’s red chile is the best I have ever eaten. Today I had the Chile Rellenos with shrimp, an unbreaded pobalano pepper, filled with corn, beans and rice and swimming in red chile. The chile was very hot, but not unpleasantly so, and had such tremendous depth of complex New Mexican flavor. I can still bring the aroma to mind hours later. Service was great. Cannot recommend more highly!!

We loved the food and dog friendly patio so much that we are here 3 times during our stay. This is the best place to eat. Great vegetarian choices with very fresh herbs and vegetables. We watched the chef go to the herb garden and pick herbs for our lunch. Save room for dessert because they are made in house and delicious.

What a splendid oasis is Cafe Sierra Negra! The menu is wonderful and unexpected (artichokes served all day!!). We had trouble deciding but finally blissed out over fish tacos, the mezze plate, and a bowl of green chile--all washed down with local IPA and blood-orange cider. (We took the chocolate cake to go!!) Very vegetarian friendly. Food locally sourced and raised with kindness. Super people. A delight for the senses.

We stopped in on our way from Texas to Colorado. The staff was amazing. The food was fresh and delicious. We had shrimp tacos, the chicken pesto tacos, fish tacos and the burger. Best meal of our road trip so far! What a gem in the middle of nowhere.
