Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bode's (pronounced 'Bo-deez) has most everything you'll need for your visit to Georgia O'Keeffe country. Some prices are high and others not. The bakery pies and hot/cold food items are produced in their kitchen and pre-wrapped for either takeout or dining in a side room with picnic tables. They sell a lot of frozen items like meat, tamales, burritos that you can take home and cook. The dairy and meat has the usual hot dogs, milk products, etc. Another side room has pet food and supplies, counter has all sorts of fishing gear, there's even a nice selection of cast iron cooking pans and metal camp cups. The gift shop is well stocked with a wide variety of useful gifts, not trinkets. There's also a small hot food building on site, but open only certain days and times. Bode's is currently open til 7 p.m., but check to be sure.

We stopped here unthinkingly. I just wanted to run into a convenience store to get a fountain drink, and when we pulled up, my wife said "I think this might be a little more than you're thinking. I'm gonna come in with you."
Sure enough, this is a true general store. A little bit of EVERYTHING! So much fun. I can see why, apparently, it's a bit of a deal to stop here. It's likely the main grocery store and "Wal Mart substitute" for this broad area that isn't densely populated. And they even have an outstanding gift section. We left with my fountain drink, a sculpture and a set of nail clippers.
It's very clean, well organized and the staff we encountered was super friendly. Worth a stop!

This place had a great selection of grocery items for a quick overnight meal or snacks for the road. It was a small grocery store setting. There was also an area to chop for souvenirs native to the New Mexico area. They also had a great coffee section that allowed you to grind your own beans fresh!

I was expecting a historic general store with everything from soup to bolts. This store does have a lot of stuff, but that’s about the extent of its charm. We picked up grab-and-go breakfast burritos in the morning (pretty cheap, but essentially fast food. And how about offering salsa in New Mexico?). We returned for lunch supplies consisting of this: a package of cheese, a small green salad, a small macaroni salad, one bottle of apple juice and chips. This tasty, prepackaged repast, was easily the most expensive lunch we had on our 40-day trip at over $25. Considering how busy this place is, service wasn't all that friendly. Really, don’t think you’ve missed anything if you can’t stop. What IS interesting is the historic building where Bodes General Mercantile first started out on the hill in Abiquiu, which now houses an antique store.

I can’t imagine Abiquiu without Bodes! To say it is an on-the-highway general store would not do it service. They always have a large selection of freshly prepared excellent grab and go food such as salads, sandwiches, hot food, etc. made by their on the site kitchen. You can find about anything you could conceivably need from fresh veggies, cold drinks, wine, liquors, camping and fishing goods, clothes, gifts, etc. etc. They even have Boar’s Head refrigerated case with gourmet meats and cheeses! And of course gas for the vehicle. With Espanola about 27 miles away, Bodes fills a huge need for locals and travelers.

We were told this was a "must see" while traveling through Abiquiu, NM. Think, General Store vibe and you'll enjoy...otherwise I'd pass it by. The only items that caught my attention were the freshly baked goods from Sage Bakery in Santa Fe.

a mix of merchandise that highlights the contrasts of the area, truly a general store with fishing and hunting supplies and general grocery, garden and household needs, but also French household specialties, tourist souvenirs and bird supplies. Very good coffee, cinnamon buns (with reheating) and hot breakfast burritos. Kitchen was not functioning whern we went in for breakfast.

Bode's is a historic landmark. We finally made it for their much recommended breakfast burritos. They have many varieties and ready to go. Everyone got exactly the burrito they wanted. I opted for the green chile, eggs, potato, and bacon burrito. The store is charming and laid back and the cashier was extremely friendly. We also picked up some souvenirs. I definitely recommend Bode's for all your needs while in the Abiquiu area.

This place added to our visit in Abiquiu. I'm sure it looked the same in 1960 as it does now. We grabbed a burrito and a salad for lunch. They have a dining area available to take your meal. Take some time and look it all over. They are proud of their store, as they should be.

Bode's deserves a stop when in the area. You'll find a little bit of everything there, from fishing worms to wine. They also have a nice little gift shop area. If Bode's doesn't have it, you probably don't need it!

I always make time to stop at Bode’s while traveling to and from Santa Fe. If not for the delicious Green Chile Cheeseburger, then definitely for a breakfast burrito or some other snack! Clean restrooms and friendly folks. Gasoline is priced fairly.

The perfect place to stop for a drink, food, bathroom or gas break or just to see this cool landmark. They have a little bit of everything. Right on the highway so you can’t miss it. Definitely worth a stop to look around.

Today's breakfast burrito with green chile, eggs, and potatoes was very good! The burrito seemed better than ones I have had in the past at Bode's
