Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely restaurant run by a service school focusing on risk of exclusion youngsters. Apart for the service it renders for the local community, the food is delicious, the service is nice and efficient and the price is unbeatable. Totally worth having lunch or dinner here.

I remember going to this restaurant when it opened in 2014 and have gone again in subsequent trips and always thought it had promise and as others have said a good cause as part of the Friends group which I have also supported especially in...Phnom Penh. Having said the above I felt my dinner was just okay this time. The eggplant dip is good but the chicken dish was just passable. It is a nice environment and worth booking but I do feel they need to improve the quality. Something lacking.More

The food was beautiful and really well presented, even better that is helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds gain training and work experience. When I went upstairs to the toilet there is a classroom there which shows they are also teaching the students English which...helps them into better paid employment.More

This was a great find. The food is amazing and affordable at the same time. The green veggie curry was particularly good. And then came the dessert - such weird flavours that turned out to be utterly delicious. A good cause here as well.

Khaiphaen Restaurant offers a delightful taste of authentic Lao cuisine while supporting a noble cause. The chicken larb dish was undeniably delicious, although the portion size was somewhat small. The fish and chips, while tasty, came with only four pieces of potato wedges. However, the...ambiance of the restaurant was pleasing, providing a pleasant dining experience. Notably, the restaurant's mission to help street children is truly honorable.More

I had Khaiphaen’s version of fish and chips. I enjoyed it but was even better because it was a pleasant change from Lao food.

Great food, lovely staff and nice ambience. Ordered green curry, a side of rice, a side of green beans with cashews, bread with eggplant dip, and cinnamon coffee coconut ice cream shake. Loved all the items. Overall all the dishes felt simple in taste and...healthy. A very welcoming place and not far from the river, and about 15-20 minutes walk from night market. Couldn’t connect to Wifi but that’s alright. They do accept credit cards.More

I came here for dinner and had the fried fish. The fish was stated in the menu to come with some sort of mango mash. When the fish arrived it was firstly incredibly small portions for the price. I think I got like three potato...fries. But more importantly I noticed there was no mango mash and there was some sort of papaya salad I believe. The salad tasted weird and the fish also. A few hours later I started feeling sick and ended up with severe food poisoning the next day. My boyfriend had a different dish which admittedly didn't taste that good but he ended up not getting sick. The restaurant didn't seem to be of very high quality despite their sky high prices. I wouldn't take part in this roulette and you should go check out other places. There are plenty of amazing restaurants.More

Such a special dinner provided by the students at the Khaipaen training restaurant. The food, the friendly and highly competent staff and the ambience made this a very special night. What an inspiration and fabulous idea to provide the skills and training needed for the...future. A pannacotta to rival the best in Italy.More

We had a bit of an odd experience here. We went for dinner at 7 pm, but as we tried to order we were told that several ditshes had already run out. What we did manage to order was quite good. The home-made Lao sausage,...for example, was excellent. When we tried to add an extra side dish at around 7.30 pm we were told the kitchen was now closed, because the restaurant itself would close by 8 pm sharp. Needless to say, they wouldn't give us any dessert, either. Perhaps it's better to come here for lunch, or a very early dinner. This is a vocational training restaurant, like the other TREE restaurants. The staff is clearly being well trained in culinary matters, but they could use some training in customer service and business planning as well...More

Had lunch today and was a lovely experience. The restaurant belongs to Friends International, a NGO in SE Asian training locals in hospitality industry. The place is very really run with a lovely setting. Staff were friendly and professional. I had the Lao pork sausages...with banana pepper and spring onion chutney. It was well presented and tasty. My friend had the local fish red curry laksa and it was yummy too. Had the coconut pandan panna cotta for dessert and it did not disappointed either. Overall a great lunch. Highly recommended to try some authentic Laotian food.More
