Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went along on a Sunday evening for dinner & to watch the fire show. Dinner was like a home-cooked meal. Yum, but nothing amazingly fancy. A wide range to choose from..steaks, pasta, Chinese dishes, curries & more. Happy hour was 5-7pm with cheaper drinks....The show was good, but personally felt it was aimed more at families with younger children. We are a group of three couples.More

We had an incredible night! The show was great to watch and the dancers interacted with everyone. Food, drinks and the staff were amazing! Wish we could’ve fit in another dinner before we left!

When booking prior to out arrival, I asked for a room close to the restaurant and pool to minimize the walking distance which is exactly what we got- room 2 to be exact. It overlooked the pool-10 meters away and another 20 meters to the...restaurant. The car park allowed us to be about 20 meters to reception and the adjacent restaurant, so really good for couples not wanting to travel long distances. The room was spacious and clean although in need of a bit of TLC. We found the fan was adequate to cool the room. From memory the toilet had a leak but all in all really good value at $145.00 NZD a night- the best we encountered around the island. There was a fire dance next to the restaurant in the evening and it was packed-people came from the Shang-Ri La across the road to eat and watch the show. As an aside we tried to go there for lunch the following day but the entrance guard wanted $65 FJD for a day pass ! That did not include lunch so we went back to Gecko's. Actually the food at Gecko's was as good if not better than any other resort restaurant. The only real negative was a bunch of rowdy Aussies who made the pool their own and played music on a portable device all afternoon. Fortunately there is a second pool about 40 meters from room 2 that we had to ourselves. Overall though, Gecko's is worth staying at although there's room for improving the state of the buildings. Its worth 4 stars for value, great food and pleasant staff.More

I'm sorry to say it was a below average night, staff we're lovely but the food was horrible. We had heard good things so was quite looking forward to dining there, we couldn't eat our meal as yuk. Couldn't wait to get on the bus...to get back to where we are staying.More

While on holiday in Fiji we decided to re-visit Geckos , after last being there 13 years ago The staff are still super super friendly and the entertainment Awesome inc. Fire Dancing The food is very nice without being spectacular , hey it’s half the...price of the large hotels / resorts . I think it’s great to support the smaller/ local business .More

Great food and entertainment! Kids loved the interaction with dance and the friendly staff. A very entertaining night that made us all laugh and smile! We all enjoyed our meals and had no room left for dessert. Highly recommend a visit here!

We came to Geckos for dinner as I read great reviews about the fire/dancing show. The show was not as good as I expected at all, very family oriented with opportunity’s to get the kids and parents on stage which I didn’t enjoy. The actual...fire dance was great but it was only a small part of the whole performance. The food at geckos was better than I expected- probably the most vegetarian options I have seen during our stay in Fiji. Yummy entrees spring rolls and veggie fritters. And the stir fry main was also delicious. Lots of families and children in the restaurant.More

We stayed at the bigger resort across the road but had read so many good reviews about Geckos that it was my first choice for my birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. Only experienced the one evening at the Gecko’s Restaurant but what a...wonderful ambiance, great menu to select from (reasonably priced), and the Fire Show was superb. Booked via their f/b page a few days before and had a prompt response. So grateful that my birthday was acknowledged (the bigger resort couldn't have cared less) and loved that the Fire Show performance was so interactive, for all ages, and inclusive. I would definitely recommend an evening here with the wonderful staff and performers at Gecko’s Restaurant if you are in the area. A really great night out for all ages.More

Went to see the cultural show, was a great show and got everyone in the restaurant involved! the fire show was amazing, the dancers and performers have so much talent! The food was great and the cocktail happy hour was a bonus! definitely recommend especially...if you are staying at the Shangri-la as it's just across the road. Staff were super friendly and accommodating with one of the staff members going out of their way and helping us walk back to our resort as it was quite dark.More

The best grilled mahi mahi I’ve very had. The food here was the best I ate in Fiji and the cocktails were also really good. The show was lots of fun and they managed to get most of us up to have a dance with...them. Very interactive show. I believe the fire show is on two nights a week and we went on the Friday. Great little souvenir shop too, keyrings and magnets that I didn’t see elsewhere and bargain prices.More

We went to Gecko's mainly for the Fire Show (only on certian nights - need to check before you book if you want to see this). It was so much fun! Completely different to the other show we saw - entertaining, intimate, fun, colourful &...interactive (as smuch as you want it to be). Great for all - guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Staff were super friendly and accommodating - we got picked up and dropped off at the Shangri-La accross the road. Food was more traditional style and was yummy and good value for money.More

Went along with my husband and two kids. We were staying across the road at the Shangri La so booked in for an evening dinner and show. The food was tasty, cocktails yummy and show fabulous! The dancers were great and we had lots of...laughs when various members of the family went on stage to join the dances. There is no charge for the show. Simply order your food and drinks and be entertained. An unpretentious, clean setting with lovely staff.More
