Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a perfect place to stop for a coffee in a charming setting. They also serve meals. I always make it a point to visit.

Frequented by locals for light meals, no English on the menu, floor tiles a century old, old style cafe chairs, this is a genuine place to relax over a beer. No pretentions, no exploitation. Not to be missed.

This cafe looked as though it hasn't changed in decades and so we wanted to call in just to soak up the atmosphere and imagine ourselves back in an earlier era. We stopped by only for a coffee and a juice and admired the old photos and advertisements which adorned the walls. This place feels like the real old 1920's Santiago. Service in English was prompt and friendly. Coffee was good and the lemonade, home-made.

This place has all of the typical things you expect from a cafe in Chile - coffee, tea, media lunas, toasted sandwiches, eggs etc. It is pretty standard fare but reasonable service and a nice place to sit and relax. I had a media luna and a coffee and read the newspaper. It's just not a "specialty hipster coffee" place, but sometimes all you need is a cortado and a media luna and you're good to go.

Sooooo, I read some positive reviews online in regard to this cafe and stopped in the other day--in the afternoon, for a latte. In short, it was SO bad that I drank 1/3, tried to save it with sugar, but just couldn't get over the fact that it almost made me gag; it was that bad. And I say this in utter sincerity. First off, the latte was SCALDING hot. That tips you off right away that the barista doesn't know what he's doing. In this case, my waiter and the barista were one in the same. It came, of course, in a ceramic mug that was impossible to pick up due to the heat. And the handle was useless. If you go there, you'll know what I mean. The sugar, by the way, comes loose, in a small woven basket, in cubes. 'A little distressing. When I was there, a 10-year-old was wandering table to table, fingering a lot of the sugar cubes. ('Good grief.) So, back to the latte: it was HORRID. Awful. Disgusting. Nasty. I've drank lattes on numerous continents and O so many cafes/coffeehouses, and this one was among the worst I've ever had. Let's see ... They have a little tray that they use for the WiFi password, printed out by hand: JMDLb457. That's great, but ... that's not the password. LOL It's all lowercase, and I should have known better after tasting the latte. There's a saying: the was you do one thing is the way you do many things. If you're looking for wonderful, rich, DELICIOUS coffee (espresso) in Santiago, I'd recommend FIX or Original Green Roasters. Both serve w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l lattes. And the food at OGR is superb. But this place ... 'Kinda makes you wonder why they even forked over money for an espresso machine. ('N-e-v-e-r going back, by the way.

My wife and I ate at Cafe de la Barra several times during the period December 22, 2016 through January 12, 2017. Cafe de la Barra is near Cerro San Lucia and also close to Monjitas Street. It is a small and unpretentious place that caters mostly to the locals. They do have English menus which was a big help to us because we did not speak Spanish. The Cafe has numerous items on the menu and a good selection of beers. My favorite pick was the Caesar salad because it was so delicious and reasonably priced, about 4,800 Chilean pesos (650 pesos to the dollar at the time). I usually paired it with one of the local dark beers, Garage 56, a Chilean beer. They also have Kuntsman beer which is also a very good beer and readily available in Chile. The Caesar salad is served in a huge bowl that is filled with delicious greens, avocados, ham and grilled chicken strips. They also provide several wedges of lemons to squeeze over the salad which adds a nice piquant flavor as well. The greens are very good lettuce with mixed greens of various kinds. The croutons are small and not hard to eat. The salad dressing is a typical Caesar. It was a filling meal and hits the spot just right. We also went to this Cafe with my daughter and our seven year old grandchild. He loves Fanta and they had it for him. He also likes very basic food and we were able to accommodate him. My wife had various salads which were also served in large bowls. She had a cous-cous salad that looked delicious and my daughter had a Jamon (ham) salad. When the 4 of us went to the Cafe, the total bill for all 4 was 26,400 Chilean pesos. This place was comfortable and pleasant and the staff was very accommodating. I recommend it for a nice lunch.

We decided to skip the spartan breakfast at our hotel and went out to this place instead. Hands down the best food we ate in Santiago. Granted it was only breakfast- and I hade the toast with smashed avocado and salt- and a great coffee and fresh OJ- but still- after so many food disappointments in Santiago it was refreshing to have such good food. My husband had a delicious sandwich of Parma ham and arugula and sun dried tomatoes- which I tried- and it was excellent. So definitely stop in for a quick easy breakfast.

We stopped for lunch at this cute place and were so happy we did -- the sandwiches and desserts were delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, and the price was right. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a very fancy lunch or as your only meal in Santiago, but it is definitely worthwhile for a mid-day break in a cute, quirky space while museum-hopping or seeing the sights.

To be honest, some times we make mistakes and when we do, people tend to write bad reviews more often because they were dissapointed. e really thank you for taking the time to write a good one.

We want to Cafe de la Barra for brunch after arriving in Santiago let the night before. It is a relatively cheap and cheerful cafe, recommended by Lonely Planet. It is a good recommendation too. My brunch sandwich was very tasty, and the coffee was good. My wife had an Italian style hot chocolate - the best she has had so far in South America. She also wanted some additional avocado with her brunch, and this was delivered promptly. Staff were very helpful and cheery.

I passed many times in front of this cafe without stoping till yesterday while I am very familiar with the Lastarria area. Yesterday, we finally stopped. Great atmosphere and deco. the chirimoya juice and the vienese coffee were great. The service was quite slow, it took approx. 10 minutes to be served.
