Have enjoyed several more meals at Dim Sum Square on Jervois Street over the past year and have always been happy with the dim sum baskets served up here. This is a very good 'tourist-friendly' option for yum cha in the heart of Sheung Wan. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (Mon-Sat) and 8am to 10pm (Sun).
Note: that midday visits will likely result in you having to queue up outside to wait for a table. They serve baskets quickly and turn over tables relatively fast as well. Longest we have waited is around 15 minutes when 6-7th in the queue.
Note: This is a cash only establishment. Baskets are mostly $20 to $35 each, plus a Basic Charge of $4 per person.
Ordering is simple. You will be provided with a dim sum card (Cantonese and English) with names and small boxes for you to check or place a number (if you want more than 1 basket of a particular order). Unfortunately, the present order cards don't have pictures on them anymore. They have also removed the table placement which had pictures as well. As such, if you are unfamiliar with dim sum, best to research a bit and make sure you know what you are ordering beforehand.
Lift your hand, a server will come to your table and take your order. Your baskets will begin showing up a few minutes later. Don't wait for all your food to arrive at the same time. Start eating as soon as your dim sum orders arrive so that you can enjoy them steamed and fresh.
We like quite a few of the dim sum orders here. The Steamed BBQ Pork Buns are very good, as are the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns. Ha Gao, Siu Mai, Turnip Cake, Spring Rolls and Rice Spring Rolls are also very good. Perhaps pour favourite order here is the Glutinous Rice with Chicken, Assorted Meats, which is neatly served wrapped in a Lotus Leaf. It is fragrant and very tasty.
Note: In terms of how much to order, I would suggest a minimum of 3 baskets per 2 people if you want to eat light. If you want to leave a bit fuller, perfect ok to order 2 or more baskets per person.

Has usually been very good option for dim sum on Jervois Street. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (Mon-Sat) and 8am to 10pm (Sun). They have a smaller dining area with tables relatively close together, however they are using normal plastic table dividers to help create social distancing and to space for small parties up to 4 people.
Must admit our last visit wasn't great, normal orders were all a grade or two below what we have normally be served at Dim Sum Square. Hopefully just a bad day in the kitchen but everything seems a bit off on the day. Otherwise, have enjoyed a handful of very good light meals here in recent months, enjoying Steamed BBQ Pork Buns, Crispy BBQ Pork Buns, Siu Mai, Turnip Cake, Spring Rolls and glutinous rice with assorted meats in lotus leaf. We usually order 2-3 baskets per person here. Baskets cost between $20-35 each, cash payment only.

We were very pleased with this restaurant for lunch. Though the hotel recommended two other more famous dim sum we found this to be more centrally located, have less of a wait, in fact, no wait and the staff to be more friendly though still brisk and efficient. Prices are reasonable. Tea is free with refills upon request. It is very good. A generous amount of food cost us less than $10 USD each. It is necessary to raise your hand when ready to order or if you need anything during the meal. Otherwise the waiter will not come. Unless extremely busy you don't feel rushed to leave unlike some places in Hong Kong. In fact most of the time you have to ask for your tab. The toilet must be one of the world's smallest, not good if you suffer from claustrophobia. But it is clean and in good order.

We visited with a food tour group. Prawn dumplings were good, packed with whole prawns. The rest of the dumplings were okay, not as flavoursome as I’d expected.
The bbq pork buns were way too sweet for my taste, sweet pork filling and sweet pastry was too much.
We do get the fact it’s a family business and independent. The food is freshly made on site which makes it better than most places around.
Would like to try once more as they offer a large selection of dim sum.

Their Xiao Long Boa is to die for, I always order 2 servings just for me! The free tea is a lovely touch, they are prompt. It is a great way to brunch in the morning, all their food is amazing. I stay in a hotel near by when I am in Hong Long just so I can eat there.

A mass market dim sum restaurant at the fringe of central business district. Fair to say unit prices were quite cheap. It’s more like a fast food dim sum place than proper restaurant. Quality of dim sum very average & nothing really worth more to mention.

We randomly found this gem across our hotel after checking in late from a delayed flight. Truly authentic serving the best dim sum I have ever tasted in my life. Prices are super low for the food they offer. No wonder it was absolutely packed when we walked in and packed when we left rather late. Many locals had dinner there, as well as many tourists after we discovered that dim sum square is at the top local restaurants in the Soho area of HK.

This place was recommended during a free walking tour by GuruWalk. It was indeed a pleasant and typical experience eating here. Cheap, yet very good food.

Our first stop for the Hong Kong trip began with Dim Sum Square. The queue and waiting time approximated 40 minutes during lunch hour. Please be patient during peak hours.
We tried creamy custard buns, crispy bbq pork buns, siu mai, har gao. All are tasty and steaming hot.
However, the restaurant is noisy and difficult to communicate.

Outstanding inexpensive dim sum with generous portions. Full of locals eating there - always a good sign - but there are English sub-titles on the menu. Unsurprisingly popular - queues form after 12.30 weekday lunchtimes so get there earlier. Cash or Octopus card only. Probably the best dim sum restaurant I’ve eaten at in Hong Kong. A 2 minute walk from Sheung Wan MTR, exit A2. Turn right on leaving the station, then immediately left into Hillier Street. Take the right fork at the junction ahead (which is a continuation of Hillier Street), pass the Fu Fai Commercial Centre on your right, and the entrance to Dim Sum Square is on the next crossroads with Jervois Street, opposite and to your left.

The food here is great and the ambiance is greatly improved with the new and bigger location opposite the Akvo Hotel. They serve alcohol at this new location too, and a cheap yummy Tsingtao goes down well with the delicate flavors of the dim sum. Of particular note are their hargao shrimp dumpling and their char siu, with the custard buns also making for an indulgent treat! The staff is friendly and always ready to amend an order if it is incorrect, and are very attentive as well.

Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
