Enjoyed our 4 day stay at Liku’alofa resort. The facilities are in disrepair. Very little water pressure, shower knob broken, the ocean pool is permanently closed. Wi-Fi only at the office and spotty cell coverage. Snorkeling at the resort is “disappointing” to quote another guest. But it’s interesting and swimming is good at high tide (very shallow at low tide). Plenty of fish and eels to see. Most of the coral is in poor shape due to cyclone damage. What does make this resort worth going to are the westerly sunset dinners on their dinner deck. And the wonderful people working here. The food was very good and not overpriced. Tui, the Bar man, regaled us with tales of Fiji and Tonga. And the island tour with Ruby was the highlight of our trip. Such a wonderful drive and interesting trip through Tongan culture and history told by a master story teller. Highly recommend the island tour with Ruby! The cultural show and dinner were great fun. Some reviews said they were amateurish, but when you consider half the dancers also work at the resort in some other capacity, it becomes more of a sharing of their culture and less a glitzy performance. The gardens at the resort are also well kept and pretty, and the whole place has a layed back Tongan vibe. Yes, the roosters wake you up with loud crows every morning, but a delightful Tongan pancake breakfast is waiting, so it’s fine. If your looking for high end western style resort, don’t come here. But if you want to experience Tongan life, this is a good place to start. Great place to relax and really do nothing.

The restaurant was always ready to serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for their guests. We tried many of the dishes and all were tasty and enjoyable. The cocktails on the deck was definteily our highlight nof each evening as we eatched the sunset over the beautiful ocean.

Such a beautifully located restaurant. Great food and while eating on the deck we saw a whale swimming by! What a bonus! On a windy day though, you can't get those big table umbrellas up as they don't hold in the base.

Really a chaotic experience with a large group. Had double booked the terrace with the view where we were due to have drinks. Island show very amateurish compared with others we have seen in Samoa and Fiji, with pre recorded music and small group. Food was pitiful with tiny servings and hardly authentic island food ( mostly cold Chinese style ). One small, thin slice of pork per person with no returns. Huge suckling pig there but suspect they were keeping most for themselves. Food all cold and service surly. A terrible advertisement for Tongan culture. Avoid.

We stayed at the Likualofa resort and this was the restaurant situiated within the grounds of the resort. It couldn't be situated in a better place. Perched on the foreshore of the lagoon and jutting out over the ocean pool gave a clear uninterrupted view of the lagoon and ocean beyond the reef. The continental style breakfasts were simple and plentiful with the option of ordering cooked breakfast options. The coffe was lousy though lol but could be cause I'm a coffe snob. Lunches were very good and a large variety of local dishes and European style dishes. Dinner was outstanding with various delicious options. Wed and Fri nights they had a cultural show with traditional island styled foods served as a smorgasbord at a very reasonable small
charge well worth booking. The most outstanding aspect was the views Where else can you sit eating toast first thing in the morning and watch humpback whales breaching less than 200m away from you? Or kick back in the evenings with your dinner and enjoy a spectacular sunset.

We stayed here so tried quite a few dishes. All were excellent quality, cooked from scratch, so it can take a while, be prepared to wait, worth it though!
Would recommend the seafood pasta and O'ta ika, all fish was good quality. I don't eat meat so cant comment on other dishes but really enjoyed all fish dishes i had.
Lovely watching the sea from the deck and looking for whales with a glass of wine, we saw a few go past when we were there.

Great place for Sunday lunch. Can get a little overcrowded as not much open. But nice food and cold drinks.

Liku’alofa on a Wednesday night it’s great for a buffet Tongan feast and traditional island entertainment. They had a Moana show which I thought was great for local kids who have learnt these legends growing up and other kids who enjoy the movie.
... On another note the Curried Ika is amazing at the buffet. Pile up if there.

Today we visited this restaurant with two families. Among us we had 3 little children under 4 years old. We arrived about 6.30 pm, and the food took 2 hous (!!!) to arrive.
I can not remember ever having to wait that long in any restaurant! But worse than that, it was obvious that we had small children, and the very least staff should have done when we arrived was to say that we might have to wait a very long time so we could decide what to do. Even without the children I'd had loved to know if I spend the whole night there to get a mediocre meal.
I asked to talk to the manager and was informed there was none!

Well I was there for 7 sleeps and 8 days so I got to sample breakfast, lunch and dinner :). The chef Joe did an outstanding job on every meal. My favorites were the raw fish and the sea food chowder. You must experience the buffet dinner where you can try some local Tongan food.
The first day I ordered more breakfast to go with the complimentary one, but it was way too much to eat. So I got the complimentary one for the rest of the days. It included 3 toast, butter, jam, 3 slices of watermelon, a fried banana, a piece of papaya and some coconut.
The bar and restaurant staff including Joe were accommodating to any specific dietary requirements I had, like "more please" :D. They were very friendly and helpful and they always would go the extra mile for you. They even made a birthday cake for my friend and they came out and sung happy birthday to her :D
Be aware the meals are Tongan proportions (good amount) so if you have a small appetite then order half meals :)
Most of the meals were from $12 - $22 tongan dollars
Some notable mentions;
- all the stir frys
- the pasta dishes
- island curry
You can also ask to get fresh coconut ($5 tongan) straight from a tree but only if the tree clmbers were around at the time :)

We were treated to a beautiful dinner for two overlooking a beautiful Island sunset. The food was exquisite Italian, with the use of local Tongan produce. Would recommend for a Romantic dinner for two!

We attended the fire dancing on a Wednesday night, we booked on the Tuesday and requested a seat up front, they said they would see what they could do. when we arrived on Wednesday we were seated right at the front near the stage, Best view in the house, the show is great! we ordered cocktails which came in massive glasses, great value for money.
This is the best Fire Dancing Show in Tonga!
Highly recommended. they have great views from their bar and staff are very friendly and helpful!

The view from the restaurant/bar is sensational, the food serving sizes are huge but it was the Liku'alofa Burger that got me! You gotta try it out! Chicken, beef, pineapple, bacon, egg and some green stuff lol
