Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Delightful local restaurant with mezes and more and great local wines. Felt very European inside. Friendly service.

Make a reservation! This is a great restaurant with excellent Turkish fare, friendly service and a nice vibe, as most of the clientele were local.

There are many restaurants in the Beyoglu area near Taksim Square, and this one doesn't immediately jump out at you. But it is a hidden gem! Patronized mainly by local residents, it offers good food in a cosy, grown up ambience. My friend-of-a-friend guide is...an old friend of the owner and his family and it's the kind of place I would go back to. We didn't eat but the owner joined us and we had some nice wine and watermelon with him.More

Was recommended by a friend who lived in Istanbul for many years to visit. Beautiful food and a great raki collection. Restaurant atmosphere and vibe preserves local history and old world charm, while providing great service. We went early (American time dinner), so was quiet...and empty, but then as we sat there more people started coming in. Most other patrons were locals, and even appeared to know some of the staff, so reassured to us that this is a place locals love as well. Tucked away in a small street in Beyouglu, but very cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend.More

Traditional good food in a nice environment with a good service at a fair price. I had a good choice of half portion of meze followed by a tasty fried liver and meat balls. I particularly appreciated the service, they changed the raki glass as...mine was still having some ice in it and you should not pour raki on ice but the other way round. I also appreciated that they were big pushy at all. The nice environment is s plus on topMore

If you want to feel what is an Istanbul meyhane or traditional restaurant (and in Istanbul it means a fish restaurant) this place should be in the priority list. There is nothing left to chance.

We enjoyed a large fish between two of us and were able to choose before cooked. The salad was excellent and we chose a 350 ml bottle of dry white house wine which was excellent and good value. We did not book, but would recommend...booking if you want to guarantee a place as it is usually busy. Helpful staff. Will visit again next time we are there.More

I came to Istanbul with my dad and were recommended to visit this restaurant by our Airbnb host - and very glad we did. We walked by it on a Sat night and were told there were no tables available then or on Sunday, but...to return on Monday evening. When we came, we were greeted by Mr. Cavit and brought upstairs to our table in a lively environment. We ordered the marinated sea bass, eggplant with yogurt, lamb liver, lamb shish, and red mullet. Everything was AMAZING. In addition, the service was great. They were always nearby for any requests or questions, but gave us space to relax - especially between courses (which we learned is a tradition in Meyhane restaurants).More

We made reservations having tried a walk in on a Wednesday when there was no room; they were also full on Friday so we managed a Saturday reservation. This goes to show you how popular they are. We were seated upstairs and the restaurant was...full, buzzing but not so loud that you can't hear your partner's conversation. All in all a very convivial atmosphere. Our waiter was prompt and efficient up until the main course was served. Thereafter plates were cleared and we sat in front of an empty table with no drinks left, no offer of more, no offer of dessert and a long wait when the bill was requested. Our waiter did offer an express apology for the long wait which was appreciated. As for the food; we had 3 mezzes; eggplant and yoghurt, seaweed with parmesan cheese and sea bass..all excellent. Our mains were mackerel (fresh) and chicken kebab. Both very nicely done. We also enjoyed a nice bottle of Turkish wine at a reasonable price. The food was fine and the service was mostly fine but I expected a little more based on the rave reviews. There are many good meyhanes out there.More

A fantastic evening where we were treated to exceptional service, superb food from the cold meze where the stuffed vine leaves were amazing to hot starters to the meatball main course which topped off an excellent meal. The white wine recommendation was good and at...a reasonable price. A value for money meal which was excellent!More

The place does not look attractive as other restaurants around at first sight but it is actually nice when you get to the main room at first floor. The appetizers are really good and with great variety. You can have a full meal just having...Meze. People nice and excellent service. Really good prices for quality food.More

What a surprise and a pleasant one at that! Walking upstairs into the dining area with yester year appeal and interesting decor and framed posters/pictures immediately created an atmosphere of laid back charm Friendly staff moved about effortlessly The menu covered all bases and the...choices were difficult as everything was appealing The smoky eggplant dip was sublime and the spicy tomato one didn’t disappoint I cannot believe I’m writing the following: The fried calamari was the best I’ve ever had, not to be missed. The delicate batter and perfectly cooked calamari made me want to reorder a 2nd plate. Then to possibly also have the best fresh sardines “ever” was a special treat We finished with the “lamb shish” which was very tasty Seek out Asmalı Cavit, it is worth it in my opinion PS there were plenty of locals which is a sign of a good local restaurant Thanks Asmalı CavitMore
