I found Rod Dee Det via an online search, which listed it as a great local restaurant in Bangkok. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to this hype. The restaurant is quite spacious, with the entire entryway open to the street, and large, plank-style...tables. We sat down and studied the menu while we waited for our friends. The waiter wanted to take our order immediately, and we had a hard time communicating that we were waiting for friends (not his fault, of course, but to say that little English is spoken). Once we ordered, the disappointment began. The broth was less than flavorful, and not at all as advertised by reviews. The portions were so small that my husband had to order a second serving, even though it wasn't great. With so many options in Bangkok, you can do much better. We will not be returning, but perhaps your experience will be different.More

The price is low but the noodles is salty. The rice set and gravy is cold. Portion size is small. Average service.

Broth for beef noodle was rather bland. Worse of all the noodle was overcooked and soggy. Bad waitstaff. Pointed at beef noodle and said "kway tiew" and I got bee hoon instead. Pointed at Thai Iced Tea and I got Black Tea instead.

I passed by the shop and saw many people eating so I gave it a try. The beef noddle soup is too salty and lacks the beef favour, not the kind of beef noddle I would expect.

It's been 10 years since I last visited Rot Dee Det and boy! what a cool transformation they have been through. The cafe now looks like a modern cafe but the quality of the food is still as tasty as before, with very good prices....The broth for both pork and beef noodles were very flavourful but we felt rather thirsty about an hour later, so we suspect that the tasty broth was probably very heavy on MSG. The noodles servings are small so my husband and I ordered 2 bowls of noodles each, with different type of meat and noodles. Service was very good too.More

After reading a lot of "must places to eat in Bangkok" we went to try out the much praised beef noodle soup and we were not disappointed! It was so good and so full of flavors! I had 2 bowls to satisfy my soul. My...sister tried their chicken rice which was simple and tasted heavenly. It is a must try place for anyone visiting. And all the items in the menu are super cheap!More

The food was very affordable. We tried the rice, but was not too impressed. Some was too sweet for our taste. Try to go before 8 pm, as most dishes will be sold out after.

First time at this place. The restaurant has no air-conditioning but plenty of ceiling fans, so it's alright. There is an english menu and another one with pictures. Had the beef and beef balls with rice noodle soup. I especially love the broth so light...and yet tasty and a little spicy. The noodle only cost 50 baht so don't expect a large portion. Service staff are attentive but they do not speak English. They also serve rice dishes which also look very yummy. Will go back and try again the next time I'm in Bangkok.More

While most of the reviewers commented about the portion, I am OK with the smaller portion as it allows me to try different dishes. The beef noodle is exceptional especially for the soup, which is rich in beef flavour and balanced with slight sour and...hint of spiciness. The only thing they should improve is...air conditioning. It is really hard to sit inside if you go in the afternoon.More

Food was good and prices were very inexpensive; however portions were very small and the service was not great, as one of the dishes we ordered came out wrong (despite the server having confirmed our correct order after we had ordered). Overall, a good but...not outstanding visit.More

Went to the new location a few times before I wrote this review. The beef noodle soup is still taste as good as it was before. The broth is full of favor. The chicken sauce on top of rice is also very good. These are...my two favorites. However, with the new location, new look, and probably new prices (I don’t remember the old prices) came with more expectation. The food portion is still small. The service is still poor. The services fitted with the old shop they had in the past, but not this new modern looking. The staff still took ordered without taking notes and shouted the orders to the kitchen over customer tables. No smile when you asked any questions or followed up your orders when you are waiting long. The queue was not managed well. Many people jumped the queue in front of me as the guy who managed the queue forgot who came first. The chopsticks and spoons are kept in the drawer of the tables. This is not common in other shop. Most first time customers would not know this. When I asked, the staff were not happy to answer like they been asked so many times, and because they were busy too. When the drawer is empty, they (staff and customers) had to go and open draw of other tables. This would be fine if the shop was not busy and the tables were not full of people. Not only you have to fight for the table like a musical chairs, you had to fight for chopsticks and spoons as well. I had witnessed these incidents every times I was there. Is it that difficulty to have all these tools ready and the draw filled up? I won’t rush back especially when they are busy.More
