When we ate here there was a band and lounge singer playing old tunes. The music was nice but not excellent. We walked in on a friday night around 18:00 and were seated without delay. The menu was quite varied and we ordered several different dishes to share among our table of 4. The soups were very good. The green curry was delicious. The eggplant was also delicious. We compared prices later to what we had paid in some street markets and found this to be similarly priced and vastly more comfortable to eat at. It is not a large restaurant, so if you want to eat late you should make reservations.
If you can stand a semi-formal atmosphere and old show tunes playing while you eat this is a great place to go. My wife and I both recommend this restaurant.

An old and traditional restaurant which i suppose many locals go. They don’t speak much english, so when i tried to change the reservation on the phone, it was torture
Ordered a few a la carte dishes, most are average to good, nothing impressive. They also came randomly, and we took the plates from the waiter. Finished plates are not cleared either

Critical voices say that you can get the same food at a street market somewhere in Bangkok. If you don't know where to find these places however, I would recommend this place as a great place to get an authentic taste of the Thai cuisine. The kitchen here is excellent, no doubt about it.
We were a bit unlucky with our waitress however as she merely seemed to tolerate our presence. So instead of catering to us when we needed it she spent time chatting with customers she seemed to know. There was a language barrier between us, yes, but we didn't even get napkins.
I did notice that the other workers were quite attentive, even with foreigners, so I guess this was just a case of a bad apple.
It's a shame, because the food here is of really high quality.
Also, if you plan to come here bring some warm clothes. The aircon is set to freezing.

Such poor service. We arrived at 7pm and were given a table set for 3 despite making reservations for 4 people.
It then took 35+ minutes before anyone came to take our drink/food order and a further 10 before we could get an additional set of cutlery.
It was such a shame as the food itself was lovely.
Trying to order more drinks during the meal was an impossible task.
Sadly no one even bothered coming to take our dessert order after we had finished the mains - despite waiting around (drink less too) for 25 minutes or so. At this point we thought it was best to just grab the bill and leave.
Great food - rubbish service.

My dinner at this restaurant was terrible. This place looks fancy and have small live concerts, but they put me on a table at the back where it was impossible to see anything, even though all the tables at the front were empty. The service from the waitress was horrendous as she tried to sell me more expensive dishes than the ones I wanted. But the food was the WORST by far: the typical Thai soup I ordered was way too sour and did not have any other taste, and the crunchy fish cakes were mushy and tasteless like something brought from a supermarket. When I asked for the bill, they presented me with a paper in which they literally said "FOOD" without detailing the dishes I ordered. This made me think that it was a trick to overcharge me. It was by far my most disappointing dinning experience in many years.

We were able to secure a reservation having walked in spontaneously and I was pleased that the restaurant was able to accommodate us. We ordered a salad to share for starters and two main courses with rice. The starter was delicious, spicy bean Thai salad. Unfortunately when it came to the mains, my husbands arrived first and I was sat for a good 15 -20 minutes without my main course arriving. It appeared to have been forgotten although they did bring me a bowl of rice. When asked where it was it became obvious they had forgotten it. There was no acknowledgment or apology about this which imo was pretty poor as in essence by the time my main course arrived my husband had finished his and we wended up eating separately. Given this is a Michelin recommended I thought it was pretty poor service.

We recently dined at this traditional Thai restaurant in Bangkok, and I have to say that my experience was disappointing. While the ambiance and décor were good, the food and service left a lot to be desired. The price expensive for what you get.
The food was underwhelming. We ordered several dishes, including the famous tom yum soup and pad Thai, but all of them were bland and lacked the authentic flavors we were hoping for. The ingredients seemed to be of ok quality, but the execution fell short.
The service was lacking and not much friendly.
Overall, my experience left me feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied.

The food was excellent. We tried 3 appetizers and 4 small sized curries and that was way too much food for 2 people, but we were ambitious and wanted to explore good Thai food. The AC seemed too strong at first, but once the spice hit it was the perfect amount. If you are not used to very aromatic foods, it can get overwhelming when the place is packed and many different delicious smelling dishes are served. Service was excellent and good value for money.

My wife and I have absolutely no idea what Michelin was thinking when they gave this a one star rating. The ambience was outdated and live singers made it impossible to have a conversation. There were bugs flying around the restaurant, our table and outside the bathroom. One of the employees was actually swatting them outside the bathroom with a towel. Appetizer Sampler B wasn’t as good as the local street market fare (and five times the price). Our diced chicken with holy basil was nothing memorable and the duck was not only fatty but destroyed by some orange-vinegar condiment. We still have no idea what that was. Overall, a total disaster.

We received a friendly welcome but from there it was downhill. The food was mediocre, all came out at different time and was bland. Paper napkins…really?! There were lots of staff paying a lot of attention to locals and we had to ask to order food and drinks. A really disappointing experience

Michelin tasters throw stars around in Asia wherever they happen to be eating. The food here is extremely overpriced and not nearly as good as the street food in Chula, for example. Moreover, the life band is unbearable.

We had a lovely time at Methavalai Sorndaeng. Staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was very old-school chic: formally dressed staff, thick white napkins, and a live band with singers performing both Western and Thai songs.
The menu is huge, but has helpful English translations and pictures which makes it very easy to find things you want to try. We ended up settling for five small dishes between the two of us (plus desserts) and it was just the right amount. But we're considering coming back to try more of the menu!

This is now the 2nd time I’ve taken Michelins advice in Asia and frankly they have no idea!!! This restaurant was perfectly serviceable with decent food but absolutely nothing to write home about or recommend. Food had nothing that stood out. Service was chaotic - more interested in topping up my drink than getting the order right or the food on the table at the right time. Oh and the dining room floor singing was weird, old fashioned and really far too loud to have a nice conversation across the table with my children. With that said in terms of Western pricing it was very good but very expensive for Thailand. So many better options in Bangkok

At last we made an order. 1 big platter of starters, then 3 main dishes (for 3 of us) and 2 hot appetisers to share. What could I say? The starter and our child’s main dish came at the very end after my numerous remarks. No one was interested in dishes’ order, etc. No one poured drinks. After our remarks and indignation the personnel did NOTHING to change the situation: no compliment from the chef, no elimination this platter from our bill or smth.
You just got bad lunch experience guys, give your money and good buy.
That was my first ever so disgusting experience in a Michelin 1* restaurant. Absolutely not recommend!

As a Michelin star restaurant, the price of food is fair. Easy to try everything without second thought for the price. However, the service is not good. I often find a difficult to talk to the waiter/ waitress. And I observe for a while. It’s sad that not all the service crew members are too busy to take care of every table. They would rather get together in the food counter to chat and do nothing than looking around to see if there is any client heading up to try to search for a help and coming to the table cleaning the finished dishes. I am shocked this kind of service deserves a Michelin star.
