About
Nestled in the picturesque town of Picton at the top of the South Island, New Zealand, and at the gateway to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, is the ‘Crow Tavern. A home away from home for the local residents of Picton and tourists as well. Located on the town square it is the only Tavern in town and is surrounded by a residential area. The Crow has a full restaurant, public bar, lounge bar, bottle store, smoking area, gaming room and garden bar. It is a place where business is done, jokes are told and celebrations are held. The ladies feel comfortable in the bar and the staff and patrons are one big family. Customers share their family occasions here and sit outside in the pretty garden bar all summer long. In winter the huge open fire is a big draw card along with the big screen TVs for watching the rugby.Around the tavern are many photos of local rugby teams, fishing excursions and boats in precarious positions previously owned by local patrons. The Tavern was first built in 1855 and has been rebuilt twice since. The Crow is one of the few places in Marlborough with history of the area on the walls. The restaurant has a wall dedicated to ‘The Echo’, one of the oldest ships in the world which is now beached at Shelly beach near the town center.

Incredible food and friendly service from George and the ladies in the kitchen. No one leaves hungry - George makes sure of that. Every table has a large bottle of homemade highlander dressing (the taste of a New Zealand childhood in the 70's) and the homemade garlic butter is a real treat. The Crow is one of the last places that remind us what hospitality in NZ used to be like. The bar meals are incredible (fish and chips is amazing) and the steak on the al a carte menu would rival any big city restaurant. The roast is the sublime and the desserts are all big enough to share for $12. The wine pour is extravagant to say the least - we went back 2 nights in a row. Visit George and the girls - you will not be disappointed.

During my stay at Crow's Nest Accommodation and Tavern, I didn't visit the tavern itself, which is known as the only tavern in town and is surrounded by a residential area. The Crow Tavern boasts a full restaurant, public bar, lounge bar, bottle store, smoking area, gaming room, and garden bar. It’s a lively place where, as the owner put it: “business transactions happen, jokes are shared, and celebrations are held”.
The tavern, steeped in history, was renamed to Crow Tavern in 1974 by Terry McCashin, who transformed the former hotel into a tavern. Although I only passed through it, I could see that it was decorated in celebration of its rich heritage.
As for the accommodation, it was excellent—clean, very well-equipped, and remarkably attentive to detail. Unlike many higher-priced options that offer a single multipurpose liquid soap in the bathroom, here we were provided with four, per person, neatly lined, black and gold elegant travel-sized packages for different stages of personal care. This kind of attention to detail suggests that the owner is a keen follower of the House of Habsburg school of hospitality.
In conclusion, all joking aside, it was a wonderful place to stay, and I highly recommend it.

Wife and I were looking for somewhere close to the ferry terminal and this is nice and close. Hotel was doing some reno's but staff friendly and helpful.. I did not eat or drink here we stayed in one of their small cottage pre-fab style rooms out the back .. Room had a kitchen and fridge and a washing machine , Nice bathroom and tv and couch in open area next to the kitchen .. Lot's of pluses .. The bedroom let it all down with it being difficult to move around the bed on the far side .( I am not a big bloke) The bed was fairly uncomfortable and if you opened the window the noise of trucks on the nearby road was not so good. I mean this was okay for a night stay .. But that mattress has to go.. The next day my wife came up literally with dozens of little red spots which later got little white heads on then and burst ..very uncomfortable for her .. yep .. Bed Bugs had attacked her ..I am reluctant to say negative but management need to address the bug problem..Three star if it didn't have the bugs

A cold wet night so nipped into this place as it was the closest to our accommodation. A fire roaring, and a great bar meal, roast pork, was large and lots of vegetables. Yummy!

Great locals pub/restaurant,offering a good selection of beers and wines,at affordable prices. Also,a varied selection of bar meals specials every day.Very friendly and polite staff. Food was that good we went there 2 nights running.Would definitely return/recommend this place to anyone passing through Picton. It's about a 5 mins schlep from the Picton Ferry Terminal,on the corner of the green.

We stayed for 5 nights in the newly refurbished motel suite behind the pub. It was fantastic. Everything you could need / think of, was provided. On top of that we were given free drinks on arrival and really made to feel welcome. The pub provides excellent food for every budget. This is a locals pub and not a horrible tourist trap. If you are happy to meet the locals and have a laugh, you will be right at home here. We really loved the relaxed atmosphere and we loved that all the bar staff knew we were staying and made us feel like part of the family. We will definitely stay again. Thanks George, Karen and team.
