Lovely food & wine options. Service was slow as it was an almost full restaurant & only two waitresses. The decor is also extremely dated & conflicting with everything else. I think this restaurant could be sooooo much better with some staffing & styling improvements,...because the food is delicious.More

On our final night on South Island, at the end of our 18 day road tour around this beautiful island, we decided to treat ourselves and dine at this restaurant. Set back from the more popular tourist eateries, and in a building with an unassuming...frontage more suggestive of someones' home, we booked for 6.30 pm as Picton was filling with families desperate to find shelter, food and accommodation. This owing to the cancellation of many of the ferries that cross over from Picton to Wellington , the consequence of the damage caused by Cyclone Gabriella , continuing to ravage much of North Island. My wife and I had eaten our starters and we were sitting back enjoying a glass of wine prior to our mains, when we were hit by an earthquake! The staff immediately held onto our and adjacent tables, advising us all to remain seated, with filled wine glasses toppling over. What felt like an express train rumbling through the restaurant, and the floor feeling like liquid beneath our feet , it was all over in 30 seconds! Wolfing down our steaks washed down by the remaining wine, we paid up and left. Nothing much happened later, but we both agreed that, despite the interruption, the food was really good so well worth a visit. We will return when next in port. Our ferry sailing next morning, a "bump and swell" crossing, out through exquisite Picton Sound, and into Cook Straits.More

Delightful, unexpectedly delicious. Was here on a Saturday, we were a group of six. So good, great advice on wines and food options. Thank you! Not usually keen on sharing plates, but these were superb, owner super helpful

I really wanted to like this restaurant as it has great ambiance and a delicious looking menu. The staff were lovely but maybe lacking in experience or training as they overlooked many of the basic things such as refilling water (there was no jug on...the table), a prompt drinks order and managing our expectations on how long the food was going to take. We sat down at 7.30pm and we received our mains (we didn’t have entrees) at 9.10pm. I appreciate they have a small kitchen but this is at the upper end of how long guests should wait. The food was spectacularly plated but sadly a little bland. But, by far, the most incredible thing was being told to quieten down (twice) by the chef when we were just making the normal amount of noise a party of 6 women would make. If patrons enjoying each other’s company is such a problem for the chef maybe seat them away from the kitchen and close to the door.More

There are some basic rules of hospitality. Be welcoming. Serve promptly. Fill and refill the water glasses. Serve delicious food. This restaurant failed on all counts. It took us TWO and 1/2 HOURS to eat two courses and yet the establishment had only 5 tables...and 3 servers???? We had to ask for water refills multiple times. The worst part was we were a table of 6 ladies who had just finished the Queen Charlotte Track and the chef came out and shushed us!!!! What? I’ve worked in hospitality and I know what loud is and we were not. That being said, 30 minutes later WITH NO FOOD, the server reiterated the chef quiet down request. And then the food came and it was mediocre. Overall a very disappointing experience. There is a reason Oxley’s down the road is packed. The food is better and there is no attitude. Bye.More

So glad to have chosen this delightful restaurant for our last night on the mainland. All four of us greatly enjoyed our meals which were beautifully presented and full of flavour. The prawn cocktails were fresh and light and the seafood chowder was delicious. The...guys shared the tender and tasty lamb shoulder but couldn’t quite finish it and the fish and mussels were fabulous. The service and ambiance were great and we will definitely be back.More

We arrived in Picton on a wet rainy day and found this lovely spot. Great food and service and it is a charming family owned restaurant. Lots of vegetarian and seafood choices which was welcome. Perhaps a bit pricey and the portions small but very...good food.More

Warmly welcomed and professional service. Both had pan fried snapper that was delicious - just spoiled by the over generous servings of cauliflower & broccoli that overwhelmed the delicious fish.

Over an hour wait for any food. 2 meals were inedible, 1 was tiny, wouldn’t fed an adult. Only the surf and turf was good. Would not dine here again. Ruined my birthday dinner!

Came across this place by accident, while overnighting in Picton. The food was really first class. Best bowl of mussels I’ve ever had, great wine selection and great ambiance. Had a really memorable evening. Gem of a place.

Such lovely welcoming staff. Really nice menu. Had the fish of the day with vegetables, what a treat to have al dente veg, fish cooked to perfection and a lovely light sauce. Puddings were soooo good. Crepes lovely, & plum pudding, yumsters. Good wine choice...too.More

We enjoyed the dinner at this restaurant so much we went a second time. My husband had the seafood chowder both times he thought it was so good. I had the specials the first night (prawn cocktail and blue cod) and sizzling prawns and fillet...steak the second. Lovely sophisticated atmosphere and great service. We spent 3 weeks in New Zealand and ate at several good restaurants but this one was the bestMore

An experience in county charm & hospitality mixed with a perfect selection of quality produce. It was obvious that everyone who worked there enjoyed what they do.
