Fantastic views, service and food

Spent 3 days in Picton and sadly never ate here during our stay as it was during the week and the town was very quite and the restaurant was not open everyd day. It wasnt until we had finished travelling and were about to head home on the ferry we had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon and it was very busy. The service was great and the meals were so tasty. I had the fish and chips with the blue cod for extra cost but well worth it and my husband had the mexican macaroni and cheese which was full of flavour. Prices were reasonable and the waitress we had was very attentive. Cant wait till we are back in Picton again.

Having had a late lunch we were only looking for something small, even on a Saturday night the staff were understanding and very friendly. We both chose the chocolate fondant that came with a berry sauce and ice cream absolutely delicious. The mango coconut smoothie came with a choice of coconut or almond milk and a option of ice cream or yoghurt, guaranteed fresh fruit and not that nasty syrup most places use!

Great Food, perfect location, friendly staff.

Cafe Cortado has a pleasant setting by the water in picton. Friendly and polite staff in a wonderful setting. Our group of four enjoyed our dinner last night with the great service provided. Each one of us had a different meal and all were excellent. We ordered chicken pie that tastes really fresh and one of my friend had the best steak sandwich. Pulled pork nachos was loaded and amazing. Will definitely eat there again in coming days.

Very disappointing food and service

We were very disappointed with the most tasteless food that we have tasted in New Zealand. We were told to add salt to bring out the flavour. There was no flavour in the first place. We ordered 2 tacos which were tiny , greasy , flavourless and limp. The menu description was most misleading. Service was poor. My recommendation go across the road to Sea Breeze where they offer quality food and first class service. We ate there all week , better value, great service where they actually take an interest and pride in what they do.

Crap Service. Crap food.

Wish I'd read the reviews on here before dining today. Table wasn't cleared of glasses from previous customers the whole time we were there, served like the guy at counter couldn't care less about the customers, and the chicken tacos were dry + made with some dried out packet looking coleslaw - wouldn't even feed it to my dog. The little dude who served our food was the redeeming feature and why we've given this place 1 star at least. Don't waste your time or money here.

Don't risk the chowder

mcgregor 47 rates the chowder as good. I think he was lucky. On a busy Saturday, the main course chowder was a huge bowl of creamy dishwater. There was barely any seafood, only a couple of lonely clams lost at the bottom of a litre of tasteless liquid, served with a couple of pieces of bread. I know Picton can cook much better than this - try any of the nearby alternatives.

Over priced

Went here for Breakfast 01/01/2020. Had the Huevos Rancheros $19.00 Corn tortillas, topped with fried eggs, mild tomato chilli salsa & coriander. GF/DF/V, which was hugely over priced. 2 small tortillas with a tablespoon of salsa and a fried egg for $19.00. Most over priced breakfast I have had.

Let Down.

Went there tonight and we were sereved possibly the worst pulled pork nachos ever... For something that had pulled pork, red onion and capsicum its amaxing how they made it taste like absolutely nothing. Not to mention that there was a hair in one of the plates guacamole.... After all of this we were presented with a 25% discount on 1 plate of nachos. Deeply disappointed and disgusted. We will never be back. The food obviously has not changed in the last view months. $76 paid and only 4 drinks consumed... Appaling.

Hi Regan. I’m sad to hear that the nachos weren’t to your taste. We were told at the time that you didn’t enjoy the guacamole which is why you were given the discount. There was no mention of a hair at all so we are very surprised to hear that. The manager did check with your table soon after your meals were delivered and nothing was mentioned then. We were also sitting behind you and chatted with one of your group who said everything was ok. Everything else at your table was eaten including tapas and pizzas so we were very surprised to see your review. We always appreciate helpful feedback as it helps us to improve and I myself had the nachos that same night. I personally enjoyed them but we did decide that the guacamole needed work and we worked with the chefs the following day to remedy this. I do apologise that we were unable to meet your expectations as we don’t like to see our guests leaving unhappy.

We ordered a margarita pizza

We ordered a margarita pizza and golden fries to pick up, food was ready in 10 min which was good. Pizza was under cooked sloppy and tasteless, rubbery consistency that needed a good dash of seasoning. The fries where golden but nothing better than a scoop at this fish and chip chop. At $22 a pizza and $9.50 for fries ! Would not return here for sure and over priced I would give it a miss

Highly anticipated but under delivered

The staff were friendly enough on arrival regardless of how frazzled they looked. The wait times for drinks was far to long and we were never approached for a second drink. Our small 2 seater table was never cleared to make any room for the mains. Over an hours wait for the main which was not worth it. When my partner inquired about the delay we were told " it takes a long time to cook steak " Ordered the ribeye steak, it was tough and tasted strange. Returned the meal as it was inedible. Attempted to discuss our disappointment with the staff member at the till, he ignored our concerns and continued to chat to another staff member. Overall we felt we had been forgotten about and ignored the whole evening. we did appreciate that we were not charged for our mains however we will not be returning.

Disappointing visit

We had a booking but when we arrived no-one greeted or acknowledged us so we approached a staff member, told her we had a booking and asked who we needed to approach. She didn't know so went and got someone. Although there was plenty of seating we were seated right next to the kitchen (a high traffic area.) We were not asked for vaccine passes. We ordered drinks but had to remind them. We had booked at the restaurant based on the appealing menu we had seen online. Unfortunately the two things we had come to order were not available (the clams and the mussels.) In the end I ordered 2 entrees as they were more appealing to my taste than what was available on the main menu. I had the salt and pepper squid, which was delicious and the bubbling prawns, which were nice. The fish and chips had price on asking, when we asked how much they would be the waitress didn't know so had to go and ask. It turned out the fish and chips were $28. They were very pale and could have done with a few more minutes in the fryer. My husband was very disappointed with them. Our local fish and chip shop in Christchurch makes far nicer fish and chips for a fraction of the price.

The young waiter gave us menus and said we could sit outside and he would be out to take our order. 20mins later, I gave up and went inside to order. The beer was good but the spicy wings were soooo salty. Couldn’t finish them. We were given a salad with the wings but no utensils. Prime spot but very average service.

Great food, not so great service

We ordered one main size meal and one tapas dish to share, and was expecting the main size dish to be quite large....which it wasn't. The paella main dish was quite small for $26 worth, which was very disappointing as it was so delicious and we would have loved more of it! The service was great to start with, but once we had finished our meal we didn't see a server again, and we would have liked to look at the dessert menu and ordered another drink each.

Wish we had walked out

Very disappointed with this place, it was pretty empty when we arrived and we should have been suspicious as everywhere else was full.its being run with a group of teens who clearly aren’t coping and have no clue about customer service. Taken to a table and then left for ages without water or anyone taking our order. When we eventually called the waitress over she had an attitude...didn’t have a name badge but possible German, long blonde pigtails. We had the tacos, which were tiny and looked like they had been cobbled together by a child. The waitress said nothing when we said the food was very mediocre. We won’t return, save your pennies and go somewhere else.

Buzzing place by the waterfront

Such a great spot to get out of the cold while waiting for our ferry crossing. The best thing was we ordered a pizza with no cheese on one half but it arrived cheese over the whole thing. The staff politely remade another one for no extra charge. We were really appreciative of this great customer service.
