I have had the pleasure of eating several meals here now. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The portions were large and the quality of the food has only gotten better and better since the new ownership. The bacon eggs Benedict was fantastic, the chicken burger had a massive chunk of crispy chicken in it with great flavors and the crispy chicken salad as well as the duck special were full of flavor and well presented. The meals cost way less than what I was expecting and I am definitely recommending this to friends, family and other visitors.

fantastic breakfast, great service

The eggs Benedict with smoked Salmon and avocado was so yummy. Mr. had the poached eggs and bacon which surprisingly came with grilled tomatoes and mushroom so this made it even better value. The service from the waitress was so warm and welcoming, we would definitely come back next time we visit Akaroa.

Old but New

Title: Old but New Type of visit: Family Date of visit: Dec 2019 Rate: 5 stars Came in for Christmas Holiday and saw that the place was fully packed. We did not have a hard time in getting seats and we were also entertained well by the servers. We were given a Christmas menu of specials, that the chef created. Ordered the Belly Lechon and Seafood Paella which took a while to be served because the Kitchen was really busy. It was well worth the wait. When the food came out, we were not disappointed. Presented on a board that came with veggies, mashed potatoes, side of salad and apple glaze. Perfect combination! Seafood Paella seemed small in portion but was loaded with mussels, salmon, prawns and calamari. Very tasty as well. Compliments to the chef and the team for givng us one of the best holidays we had. Cant wait to visit again!

Nice views, poor service

Thought we’d stop here for a drink and early dinner for the kids, as it wasn’t as busy and loud as other places, and had lovely views out over the harbour. Disappointingly, the service wasn’t as nice as the views. When my husband realised he’d got part of our order wrong and returned to the counter within 60 seconds to see if he could change the order, this was flatly refused because they’d ‘already sent the order through to the kitchen and the chef might maybe be making it already’. While I understand that this may be the case, their refusal to even check if this was the case, so soon after ordering, was disappointing. The mini burgers off the kids menu looked lovely, but were quite loaded with pepper and not particularly enjoyable for the kids. Lovely views, but the same views at friendlier places along the waterfront. Would not return here to eat.

When we entered all the staff pretended we weren't there, when we said can we get a table they were almost hesitant to give us a table. I got the Salmon and my partner got the fish of the day (Gurnard) which were amazing but after finishing dinner no one came to pick up our plates or to ask if we needed any more drinks or dessert (which we wanted). But the way they treated us I didn't see the point in giving them extra money. Won't be going again.

Memorable setting, service and food

The outdoor seating provided a magical view over the Akaroa Harbour and a great dining experience on a summer evening. Our friendly waitress provided helpful advice on the menu and excellent service. We chose the fish and chips and the pork belly for our mains. Both were innovatively presented and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the pork belly was half fat and I would have preferred a lot less. The asian style vegetables were a nice accompaniment and complemented the richness of the pork. A memorable and enjoyable evening and happy to return.

Sadly Disappointing

Sadly disappointing. We were in Akaroa for a short break about 2 weeks ago. Decided to have a meal on the waterfront on our last night. We each ordered a pizza, mine was the salmon pizza. The thin crust base was tough and at the same time soggy. Obviously cooked at to low a temperature, with not enough bottom heat. The topping included a rather odd sweet sauce, the onion was undercooked (still crispy) and it was slathered with a very ordinary cheddar style cheese. My wife had a similar experience with her seafood special pizza, and left about half of it. The salmon chunks were generous, but again undercooked. The high point of the meal was a very friendly dog accompanying a young couple sitting next to us.

Excellent!!

We came in from the cruiseship. It was a lovely day. We were sitted outside and the place looks a little busy. Did not wait long for food to arrive. Had the green lipped mussels that was served in a paella pan with a creamy coconut sauce. Came with a side of chips. Fish and Chips was very delicious. Chicken Nibbles was very tasty as well. All for a reasonable price. Staff are very hospitable and well trained. Surely recommend the Trading Rooms for people coming in from the Cruiseships.

Poor Service and Poor understanding of the Covid Regulations

We walked into this restaurant and were not asked for our vaccine passes as we should have been. On entering we had to walk up to the till where a woman stood behind it (with her mask under her nose) and stared at us rather than greeting us or asking if we would like to be seated. I had to ask to be seated and she agreed that this was possible. We were then handed laminated menus which were greasy and had clearly not been wiped in some time. After about 10 minutes a young man came to our table and said not a word but stared at us. I presume he had come to take our order but this was not clear. He al least work a mask that covered his mouth and nose. The woman on the till later took her mask off completely and kept it off for the rest of the time we were there. Other staff took their masks to chat with each other (which was a frequent activity in lieu of customer service) The final straw was reading that a can of coke would be $6.50. We walked out and no-one came after us asking why or showed any interest in us walking out at all.

Hello Louise01Christchurch Sorry for your bad experience We are so serious about vaccine passes and I'm sure that we check everyone about it because we don't want to get fine that why covid passes will be something which it's so important for our restaurant specialty when I'm on duty I will make sure I check everyone who entre to the restaurant will have a Vaccine passes even it's gonna so busy but as a manager I'm sure I never missed it for the vaccine passes but for the mask it's our fault that we didn't take care it very well and not wear it properly we'll fix this thing and it's won't happened again so sorry about that. For the case that man ( who not young because he almost 25 ) he suppose to go to take care at your table and let the customer know that on the lunch time when we are so busy we do take order inside but he didn't do it I'm so sorry about it again it's can be misunderstand so sorry about it and I will make sure we will be clear with every customer. the price for every thing it's writing on the menu we also have the choice for customer and happy hours also available between 3pm - 6pm Sorry for the price but we are doing business everything include profit cost and delivery that why it's that much. we are so sorry for bad experience. Surprised at the reviews

I did not enjoy our meal here at all. The food was pricey and was so so basic! Perhaps we should’ve gotten a seafood dish? I got the chicken adobe and honestly I think the meal probably cost $10 to make.. if that! My partner got the steak which he said was nice but it literally came with 2 tomatoes and some chips.. that’s not okay! The entree was really nice, we got the arancini. We only came here because we had the entertainment voucher otherwise we wouldn’t have. The dessert wasn’t even worth looking at. So disappointed.

New owners lovely people and excellent meals

Stopped here for breakfast in the morning and came back for a dinner which proved wonderful. These are new owners (also own La Thai) just three days in yet in the midst of a Covid downturn have taken the massive step of investing in another Akaroa business - The staff were great - still very slightly feeling their way with a whole new menu but friendly attentive service but the food was absolutely brilliant - scallops entrée 10/10, beautifully presented main meals cooked to perfection. If they can do this on their third day, we wish them every success.. they deserve it and should be supported 100%

RUDE STAFF, BAD SERVICE AND NO BANANAS

Ordered French toast with Bananas and the waitress came out to tell us they had run out of Bananas. Before I could ask for another meal the waitress had disappeared. I went inside to ask her if I could have Blueberries instead of Bananas as I'm vegetarian (had noticed Blueberries on another meal so thought they would have them) but she said the chef told her this wasnt possible as they had already cooked the meal. She just ignored my request and walked off again. The meal arrived with a heap of bacon on it and since I'm vegetarian this wasn't suitable. Poached eggs were cold, and the staff didn't offer a discount when they couldnt provide Bananas. Very unfriendly, vague staff who seemed like they didn't want to be at work. Would not recommend, won't be back!!!

We really wish we had read recent reviews before wasting our money here! Fish and chips- edible but served with old salad. Akaroa salmon consisted of luke warm vegetables topped with strips/pieces of salmon disguised in a lot of sauce. This was the worst food we've had in NZ, by far. A good portion of the food was left on our plates and no discount was offered after we gave server polite feedback.

Delightful setting and fabulous evening meal

There is ample outdoor seating which looks over the foreshore at the moored boats nearby. For us 3 on holiday for a week in Akaroa, and it being a 30 degree day, the setting was very pleasantly cool. The staff were attentive and helpful when asked about the menu choices. We enjoyed 3 excellent mains and were quite full. The prices were very reasonable and the food was displayed beautifully on our plates. Hope to be able to eat here again on another night.

This place is the worst I have ever encountered! Don't believe me... then go, but Don't say you weren't warned!! What a bunch of twits. Fawlty towers is a palace. There were no hand towels in my toilet, there was no toilet paper in my wife's toilet, I wasn't going to wipe my hands on my pants like my sister in law, told the waiter...sat with wet hands waited waited waited. No action. My sister in law ordered a glass of wine...waiter came back sorry out of stock. Ordered another one, again out of stock, third time lucky! My meal the reason I went there wasn't available (sweet crab salad), my beer arrived, drunk it and left. Useless service, no stock, unhealthy 😞, and hopefully out of business soon. Do not go there, you have been warned.
