We had an amazing experience at this tiny restaurant. Chef is the artist! The flavors was delicious, presentations beautiful. We ve been traveling a lot around New Zealand and this restaurant is our Top grade, couldn’t believe how you can create such a beautiful meals and serve so many people from tiny kitchen. Service is great and professional, wine list is impressive as well. We are definitely will come back when we will be in Akaroa again and will spread the world out recommendations. P.S. We were happy that in this charming and intimate restaurant wasn’t any children so we can enjoy the atmosphere at it’s full beauty and intimacy so keep up the children policy.

Since traveling is currently difficult, we've been reminiscing about previous trips and one that stands out is our journey throughout the South Island awhile ago. And among a trip with many great memories, one of our favourites was an unplanned, but greatly appreciated, meal at The Little Bistro. Recommended by our B&B in Akaroa, we went for a lateish meal after arriving in town one night, without any knowledge or expectations. The homey and comfortable atmosphere belied a first class dining experience, and the excellent service made us feel welcome on a rainy night. The seafood chowder was fragrant and packed with flavour, the best seafood soup that we have ever had (and we lived in New England once, and so have high standards for chowders and bisques...), and a wonderful complement to NZ raised venison. When the world gets back to normal, we look forward to returning to New Zealand and dining again at The Little Bistro.

We recently dined at Little Bistro and were treated to some of the best dining we’ve experienced in Akaroa in a very long time. The setting is unique and cosy, the wine selection is amazing (one of the best wine lists we’ve seen in a long time), service outstanding and the food, well it did not disappoint in the slightest. Presented beautifully, portion sizes bang on for fine dining yet not short changing you, and the flavours were mouth watering. Would highly recommend and we will most certainly be back.

We visited here several years ago and it was fantastic hence coming again. Sadly this time it was not as good as the first visit. The menu was different and I felt it was very overpriced for what we had especially the entrees. The profiteroles were very tiny and only 4 little ones on a plate. The blackcurrants were on the menu but sultanas turned up on the plate. I was looking forward to the aged beef fillet but have never had it sliced through the middle and served as two pieces. Thus was odd. The seafood chowder was divine. My husband also enjoyed the flounder. The dessert was very nice. I felt the setting was very squished to get more tables in. Nice but not great.

This is a very small intimate/tight space with an overall very good ambiance, the night we were there it was mostly couples and very busy. The waitress who may have been an owner was really very attentive and only by her self with 18 pax in was doing a great job. the food especially the scallops were disappointing, I am unsure what sort they were but very very small and not at all tasty. The main course for both of us was much better although we did wonder about both our potato dishes as to how old they were. We like a drink and it was overall a good drinks menu, not flash but adequate, although strangely not one Scotch on it which as a Scotch drinker who would have had one it was disappointing. Great potential, lovely feel, friendly but just a wee bit lacking, will give it another go as it is not fair to judge on one visit.

Visiting the Little Bistro is always a must whenever I am in Akaroa. My most recent visit didn't live up to my previous experiences and expectations. While the service was professional and attentive, and the food portions were more than generous, the food was underwhelming, confusing, and underseasoned, and some preferred food and beverage options were not available. Also, while I totally support deep cleaning in COVID times, using spay bottles to clean the table right next to us without good ventilation while we were eating, didn't enhance the experience, or support the classy price tag. The Little Bistro is in a lovely setting, and I have had some wonderful meals in the past. Perhaps we struck an off night.

We had a fabulous dinner for two on a busy Saturday night - service was professional and we were made to feel welcome. The menu was not huge - not necessarily a bad thing. The chef knows his stuff and the food was superb (beef fillet). Very enjoyable and would totally recommend.

We had our first weekend away for almost a year, and my husband booked us into Le Petit Bistro. I am so pleased he did!! The food was outstanding. I had scallops with black pudding to start, venison medallions for my mains and chocolate ganache at the end of the meal. My husband has lentil and haloumi hot cakes to start, and aged beef.....All the food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. We enjoyed meeting the genuinely lovely front-of-house staff too and are recalling looking forward to our next visit.

We dined a couple of nights ago. Fantastic meal & service. Great range of foodie options & wines. The skilled chef was very kind in accommodating my husband’s dietary requirements. Lovely ambience overlooking the park. Would definitely dine here again. 10/10

As hospitality professionals, we were very impressed by the excellent presentation of the dishes we chose this evening. The flavors did not disappoint. Would highly recommend the Scallop Entree with Boudin Noir and pea puree. The Canterbury Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked., compliments to the Chef! The service from Valentina and her team was friendly and unobtrusive. We would thoroughly recommend dining at The Little Bistro when in Akaroa!

'Me and wife had exellent dinner and servis'. At the mean time Akaroa had difficulties with drinking water so restaurants couldn't serve tab water but our waitress was very kind by offer us variety of 'Antipodis' still or sparkling water by bottle which is on of the best New Zealand water company as well as other refreshment drinks on the menu, we were very happy with the choice. Oysters was fresh, as we all know at the moment they are small and very rich by taste ,our meals were absolutely amazing ! Scallops and chowder starters to die for and beef as main for both of us - highest compliments to the chefs. The venue is 'litlle' because it's 'Little Bistro' but there is much of love from local customers because it's worth it. Will keep coming back over and over again.

Akaroa was a must visit again after having been there and to The Little Bistro 6 years ago from Australia. For such a small community this town punches well above its weight as a community that understands what is needed in support to the local traders and the towns well being. The Little Bistro was again absolutely magnificent and well worth the dollars that you will spend. Not reflecting on the cost, we chose a shared entree (scallops) entree saffron and pea seafood chowder and mains tuna (stunning) the signature brulee for dessert washed with a dry Main Divide rose over the meal and an Amaretto Disaronno (a must have, thank you Alistair!) It was a Friday night and the diners were full of conversation. A great atmosphere with very attentive staff. A special thanks to Alistair for his effort in dragging Josh out of the kitchen alas though not revealing the very secrets of his brilliant craft in cooking and presentation of the dishes. So So good. The value is in the attention to detail. You could go elsewhere spend a third less and come away only feeling good, we came away absolutely amazed and a credit to this little bistro in this little town of Akaroa.

This is a special place that we return to for a treat. Our experience has been consistently good over a number of years and our visit this very wet weekend was no different. This is a small but friendly restaurant that does have an authentic feel, the ambience could be of a local street bistro in Paris but the food is good local cuisine. We arrived at a busy change over time for diners finishing and others arriving but it was managed well and we received a friendly welcome. All the dishes we had were top quality but the liquorice Brulee was a stand out. A fantastic all round experience, we would thoroughly recommend a visit and we will be returning.

As the name suggests this is a very small establishment so booking is strongly recommended - that said, when we were there it was nearly empty. Not a large menu, but the food is freshly prepared and well presented and includes quirky items such as blue cheese beignets for dessert. The staff are friendly, attentive and welcoming.
