What a menu! We can really recommend the 7-course set menu. It was tasty and delicious from start to finish. And delights for the eye as well. Excellent service as well. If this restaurant was in our home country and town, we would certainly be...regulars!More

The costumer service was very good. We were greated by a friendly staff/vaitor and were good taken care of the whole evening. We chose the 7-course menu, and were a bit supprised and disappointet with the amount of food. All the courses where small and...we felt that it was little food for the price we paid. Altso, there where mixed oppinions regarding the food. One of us found the flavours a bit interesting and different, but there where also some components who didn't feel as a natural part of the dish. Summerized: good service and friendly staff, different and somewhat some "missed" flavorcombinations, to little food.More

This restaurant was very close to our hotel so a convenient choice. Reservations were made prior to arriving in Riga and they could only offer us a 7.00pm reservation. It was a bit early but we took it. As it turned out it was a...well considered time. We opted for the a la carte menu as opposed to the 7 course tasting menu and it took almost two and a half hours to complete our three course meal. We were in no hurry but it did feel a long time to be sat. It was probably due to many tables ordering the 7 course tasting menu which took up much of the time of what appeared to be only two wait staff in the whole restaurant. They were tearing around serving numerous tiny dishes and each time had to describe in some detail what was on the plate. However, we never felt neglected by our waiter who was actually quite sweet despite being rushed off his feet. Our meal was delicious, beautifully presented with well judged portions. It was our last meal of our trip and I have to say the food scene in Riga exceeded our expectations - we had one fantastic meal after another. And, in Lithuania too we did not have one bad meal either. Forest is a cosy restaurant, if a little devoid of character but with an exceptional cuisine and service, which after all is the reason for going!More

"Wait, you're in Ríga ? ! You must eat at the Forest ! " This by e-mail from a friend who had dined here, with her French husband, a week ago. The husband, who being French has opinions about most things but particularly food !..., judged it quite good. Vaut le détour, alors, and since when we alit from the bus before the jaunt on foot to our hotel and consulted our maps we saw the restaurant a mere 60m away, we checked on-line -- yes, open -- and we presented ourselves ready to be delighted. * * * Mineral water / a Malbec (Argentina) / bread / mushroom soup : tagliatelle with tiger prawns / beetroot carpaccio : pork spareribs ; with service charge, as assessed by the restaurant, €130 for two at lunch. Urban prices, then, for a good restaurant ; and urbane food. The wine decent. The bread damply, earnestly worthy in a high-fibre eastern European way, just a hint of sweet-sour fermentative tang and more seeds than flour, so reminiscent of youth-in-the-organic-baking-collective days -- the mushroom soup with a drizzle of truffle oil, a poem, and the pasta quite good -- the beetroot subtle and the ribs quite good. With those, the obligatory initial Gruss aus der Kueche / amuse-gueule, shaved vegetables and hummus, and before-mains palate-cleanser, quince sorbet. (Images below.) The serveuse with excellent English, never putting a foot wrong in the mechanics of client care and food presentation / commentary. The plates and bowls interestingly chosen, setting off the food well. The terrace on which we sat, quite pleasant once the leaf-blower howl from the sidewalk opposite subsided. Among it all, the best dish perhaps the mushroom soup, the most interesting the bread. None was unpleasant and the portions were generous. * * * If I lived in Riga I'd drop by regularly for an order of that bread and that soup . . . with a glass of something red. Quite enough for an amazing lunch, and thank you, Anna, for the tip ; ton mari avait raison, your husband was right !More

Nice and intimate location with a wide variety of food, from meat to fish. We had a la carte menu and tried soups (spicy chicken and fish bisque), then pike perch and veal cheeks: well garnished, tasty, and original! Portions are generous and service is...impeccable: the maitre is very attentive and scrupulous. Good choice of winesMore

We choosed this restaurant to finish our holiday in Riga but it totally didn't work out like we hoped as a last night dinner. From the beginning the waitress acted very nervous and every dish followed another very quickly. When we asked here to pause,...she said that the chef was already preparing the dish. Thereby she didn't knew anything about the wines, except for the name and the country it was from. We choosed the 7 course vegetarian menu but the quality of the dishes was not that level as what we expected on base of the website and the price. The website told us to take 2,5 until 3 hours at minimum for the 7 course menu, but we didn't felt like we had the time to enjoy our meal. At the end we also asked for a coffee but this wasn't possible anymore because they were already cleaning it. At last, the children of the waitress were waiting for her in the reataurant way before closing time (about 50 minutes). Would not recommend this place and suggest to go for a more expensive fine dining experience where the quality and service is on a high level, or suggest to go for a less expensive one. This restaurant must not use the name 'fine dining'.More

Simply amazing experience in every aspect! We got reservation via phone within an hour (around 19 on Saturday night!). The place is really nicely decorated, the staff was very professional and friendly. BUT THE FOOD! The food exceeded all of our expectations. We couldn’t take...the 7 course tasting menu because we arrived so late, but that didn’t matter a bit! We had 3 starters which we shared and all three were so good! Seafoods here are ridicilously good and the price is technically nothing compared to the taste. As on of the main dishes we had BBQ ribs and the meat was so well coocked and the sides worked perfectly with the meat. Good wine suggestions from the staff for the food we took and our starter cocktails we’re perfectly made espresso martinis! If you go to Riga and appreciate good seafood/meat this place is a MUST try! Last thing was the locations, in the heart of Riga and calm area. Best reataurant experience we’ve had!More

Each dish is an art form. The bread is delicious and fresh baked. The mushroom soup has great smooth texture and over the top flavor. Lasagna is superb. Again great flavor. Service is five star as well. Perfect meal to end our Baltic excursion.
