For our first evening and meal in Budapest, we dined at the Chef’s table in Arany Kaviar. This inconspicuous restaurant, tucked away on Ostrum ut, proved to be a gastronomique phenomenon. Our 10-course taster’s menu, the product of several months of preparation and perfection by...Head Chef Laszlo Kanasz and his team, is now debuting in its second week. The menu was complemented by champagne and a wonderful, but subdued white wine only available at the restaurant, selected by the sommelier. Mr. Kanasz and his team prepared each course in full view and then along with with the Maitre D’, presented each course describing the ingredients and the order in detail with panache. Each course blended a cavalcade of tastes that were only surpassed by their presentations. From red prawns to chocolate covered oyster eggs, mackerel to monk fish, the tasting menu is imbued with Mr. Kanasz’s background from Lake Balaton region. Although seated indoors, we were even treated to a picnic (without ants) that included a sour cream and caviar laden waffle complemented by chicken skin sandwiches of anchovies and avocado. Each plate was distinctive and outstanding, reaching the stars, Michelen stars, in our opinion. Five stars, cudos and congratulations. Do not miss this gem!
