Came here today for lunch while on holiday for New Year’s eve. The staff was super nice and they welcomed us in this super comfy and lovely restaurant. The interiors are very modern but also create a cozy and warm atmosphere. The menu was both in english and slovenian, yet the waitress was super kind and explained everything we needed or didn’t understand on the menu. The food came quickly and was super hot and very delicious. Probably best goulash in my life. Definitely worth a try if interested in authentic local cuisine!

We ate here the first night we were in Ljubljana after it was recommended by our hotel (the Mrak). The walk from the hotel was about 10 minutes and the restaurant was easily located in an old house at an angle to the cesta and backing onto a park. The food we ordered was simple but very tasty...dumplings (called Idrijski), chicken, polenta, salad and a delicious 9 layered cake called Prekmurska consisting of phyllo, cheese, nuts and poppy seed paste, dusted with icing sugar. The local Union Tocena beer was good (and as recommended served unfiltered) and the Malvazija white wine was very enjoyable (we learned it is one of the better white Adriatic wines fresh and fruity). Curiously, the Adriatic countries as we learned all sell wine by 0.1 L per glass. That's just over 3 oz of wine, so expect to order two glasses or ask the waiter to pour 0.2 L to a glass. We would definitely recommend the Figovec.

We were in Ljubljana for two nights and wanted to try traditional Slovenian food. We are so happy that we found this little gem of a restaurant. We sat outside on the square and loved people watching and practicing our Slovenian with the wait staff. We started off with the Štruklji with mushroom sauce, which was so wonderful! Definitely give this a try. I didn’t know what to order but the waiter convinced me to try the veal liver. I was hesitant at first but it was so delicious I ate it all. My younger son had the beef soup and said it was good. He also had the sea bass; I snuck a bite and can confirm it was really good. My older son had the minestrone soup which was the most unique we’ve ever had (with broccoli and cauliflower) and “Leteči žganci” with pan-fried potatoes with onions. My husband had baked fresh sausage, which he devoured. We were all very happy with our meals and will highly recommend this to others visiting Ljubljana.

We where at the restaurant on a friday evening because we wanted to enjoy a nice pristine slovenian meal and we were quite dissapointed with the experience. The group I was with we were al Slovenian and immediately you could feel the different approach of the staff in comparisson to non slovenian guests. The service was really slow. We waited for the appetizers for about 45 min and in this time we needed to go find the waiter to order some drinks despite the fact that there were only 2 other tables full in the garden. For the main dish we waited about an hour in which the meantime not one waiter didnt come to our table to ask if we need anything or to apologize for the delay for the main dish. The food was, when finnaly served was one point and good and tasty so here we have no complaints. when we finished our meal we again waited more than a half an hour before a waiter finally came to clear the table from the dirty dishes regardless to say that in this time there were 3 waiters in the garden at the time just standing around. When they finally cleared the table and we asked for the check and told the waiter that we are not satisfied with the service he was quite arogant and full of cheap excuses . All in all for these prices the food was ok but still mediocre and as stated the attitude of the staff towards to home guests was just under all acceptable standards. This place will definetly never see us again. If you want pristine slovenian food there a lot better places to check out where the food quality, prices and service are on a much better level than at this place. I can say this with confidence since I runned a successful airbnb for the last 5 years before the whole Corona fiasco and the guests loved my reccomendations for restaurants with native slovenian dishes.

The place is rather modern against the traditional food that they have. the food is flavored and good and decently portioned for the area as there is rathe heavy food and not so flavorful... clean, prompt service, decently priced as well. Good wine and friendly staff. worth for sure a try!

We visited this place based on the recommendation by the owner of the Café Čokl where we were very satisfied and also based on the rating. However, we were very dissapointed, we waited around 45minutes for a main dish even though the restaurant wasn ´t crowded at all, the service was kind but poor, they came only to put the food on the table without apologize and no one even came since. 2 out of 4 dishes, the fried pork with sheep creamy sauce and ham on the top of it were cold and it unfortunately destroyed the satisfaction of the taste. I am sorry to leave this rating, however, this wasn ´t worthy such a high amount of money.

We enjoyed our lunch here very much - especially since this is one of the few Slovenian restaurants with more than 1 vegetarian dish on the menu (though still a lot of meat). They make Slovenian food but in a modern way. Would recommend the herbal teas also. Very nice interior design with lots of natural light.

A large group of us visited this restaurant on day one of our trip as recommended by our airport transfer driver & hotel and we were not disappointed. We were given a table straight away and served promptly. The food was very tasty, good portions and reasonably priced. We even tried the Slovenian soda and beer and really liked it. You could tell that it was very popular as within 10 minutes of us arriving, the whole place was full and even outside. The ambience was great too and decor quirky and lovely. The waiters were also friendly and professional. I will visit again The next time I go to Ljublana. Highly Recommended!

A short walk from the riverfront and the hustle and bustle, this restaurant will not disappoint those who want to try the cuisine of this area. We tried a few, based on potatoes and cheeses; a pasta and a steak, all to our liking. With two glasses of beer and a bottle of Radwanska mineral water (which, by itself, costs 6€: avoid it, although its label is very pretty...), we spent a little over 30€ each. Excellent!

Upon our arrival late one Thursday afternoon, the restaurant bustled with activity. Despite the crowd, securing a table proved challenging. Our initial request to the waitress, who seemed preoccupied, went unacknowledged. After a polite yet firm follow-up, she reluctantly arranged seating for us, albeit with evident displeasure. The menus and coloring sheets for our young son were tossed onto the table, mirroring her indifferent demeanor. Even our son couldn't overlook the rudeness. Despite the lackluster service, the cuisine exceeded our expectations. From the delicate veal tongue to the succulent braised pork, each dish showcased culinary finesse. However, the experience was marred by the waitress's rude manners. Observing her interactions with other diners only confirmed our dissatisfaction. While the food tempted us to return, the subpar service left a sour taste.

I was visiting the city with friends for the weekend and - luckily! - we came across this restaurant. They really make you feel at home, were happy to answer our questions (none of us were familiar with Slovenian cuisine) and the food was absolutely delicious. I also highly recommend the gin cocktails!

Good place for outdoor dining and authentic Slovenian food. The beer was also good. Should I also mention that the beer was good? My wife had dumplings, and I had a traditional Slovenian goulash. The goulash was good – I was astounded by how much meat it had in it. I think it had three different kinds of meat - beef, veal, and pork. And the gravy was to die for. Just when you thought you had finished your meal, your spoon revealed another piece of deliciously gravy-soaked meat. And did I mention that the beer was good? Service was a little slow, but our waiter told us they were shorthanded, because it was very hard to get workers. We also heard that same lament from the chambermaid at the hotel we were staying in. They both seem to say that, especially young Slovenians leave for the north for higher-paying jobs..

Nice restaurant, with outdoor tables in the shadow of some big trees, great in a hot summer day. The menu includes many traditional Slovenian dishes, the local beer (Union unfiltered) was very good, the service was excellent. Good prices for Ljubljana and for the quality offered.

We made a reservation, as was full each night we passed. Seemed quite full of tourists and very busy each night. Meal was ok although needed to order sides separately. My fellow dinner said they would not have their dish again as it was quite salty (was the dumplings).

Arriving at an evening hour in Ljubljana I asked the receptionist lady at my accommodation about a restaurant with Slovenian cuisine I could go to. She recommended the 'Figovec', but that it would be difficult to find a table without reservation. The place was not far away and I was lucky that a small table just got free. A friendly young waiter told me to sit down there. It turned out to be the best dining experience I had in Ljubljana, together with the next evening at the same place, for which I had made a reservation and this time with an equally professional waitress taking care of me. I was surprised to find out that this restaurant was not mentioned in the two guidebooks I had with me (Lonely Planet's 'Slovenia' and Reise Know How 'Ljubljana'). In this place, which also calls itself 'Slovenian House' (Slovenska Hisa) I just tried two of the most famous national dishes. On the first evening 'Idrijski zlikrofi', a specially shaped dumpling with a filling of potatoes and cracknels, thus crisply fried pieces of pork fat, topped by a sauce of veal ragout. The combination of pasta and potatoes sounded odd to me at first, but especially with the meat added it tasted quite good. With it I had a side salad. On the second evening I went for the 'Krajnska klobasa', the 'Carniolan Sausage' or 'Krainer Wurst' as it is called in nearby Austria. It came hot on a wooden board together with honey mustard and fresh horseradish. This time I had grilled vegetables on the side. The waitress told me to use local pumpkin seed oil with it, of which there was a bottle on the table (together with a bottle of Slovenian olive oil). It was an opportunity to also try some good local wine, like white Pinela or red Refosc. Instead of dessert I ended the dinners with an espresso, once together with a Slivova, once with a Brinjevec, a brandy of fermented juniper berries that tastes like medicine.
