Pretty venue with amazing views. We only did some wine tasting $30 for 4 taste servings. There was water available. It would have added $50 per person to have a cheese platter so we skipped that. First Lady serving was lovely changed halfway to another...and she was nice too. Cellar door prices were very high. Wine was ok but we didn’t purchase any. Good views from the tasting room however it also is near back of the kitchen where the chefs come out to vape or check their phones. The mop and crates also kind of a distraction.More

Great spot for a special family meal. Food was great, views were excellent and of course the wine first class. We combined this with a walk around the sculpture park and walk on the beach.

We booked in a month before visiting making sure the restaurant could cater for vegans. We were disappointed to find our booking had no mention of this, but we were told the chef could make some changes to the pizza for us. Not ideal but...hey it was a nice day out. Staff were friendly and attentive. As indicated a little more variety for our mains would have made the day a lot better. The seat covers could do with some tlc as we found the bench seats quite stained. Not what you would expect at a venue promoted for international visitors.More

This was my 3rd visit to Cable Bay and definitely my last. I raved about it to friends visiting from Prague and WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!! The service was atrocious, pricing ridiculous and atmosphere sterile. We made a booking and got there early so got a...drink at the bar while waiting. This is where the red flags started when the barman brought over our drinks and poured 2 beers directly from the bottle into the glass placed on the table. This resulted in a third glass of beer and 2 thirds foam. Any beer drinker will tell you this is simply not how it is done. At an establishment like Cable Bay this was a huge hole in basic training I'd say. We got moved to a table at our booking time (even thought there were around 4 other 4 seaters available when we arrived) Our waitress came over and took our food order without offering any further drinks. Given our drinks we brought over from the bar were all nearly done I would have expected her to note that and offer further drinks. That was the full extent of us dealing with our waitress. 40 minutes later we still had no food and not one single person came over to offer drinks. We had to stop a waitress who were rushing by to ask to check on our food and also to get more drinks. POOR service to say the least. We ordered some G&T's and a beer. The beer glass arrived dirty with some lip marks still clearly visible on it. YUCK!! We asked for a new glass and without any apology the waitress took the glass and came back with a glass that was marginally better. We commented that it wasn't much better and she simply said "It is because of the refrigeration" I get that the glass immediately fogs over when taken out of the fridge but the lip marks and dirt marks don't just appear out of thin air. The general feel of the restaurant was extremely noisy with no music or ambience. Overall Cable Bay still has a fantastic view but even that is spoiled now that you cannot go onto the grass areas. It's all fenced off. Previous visits had beanbags and umbrellas scattered over the lawn which added a fantastic vibe and feel to the restaurant area but it is all gone. I cannot understand why. My only explanation would be something around their liquor license. By reducing the area where you are allowed to consume liquor there would have been a slight saving in application fee. I would not recommend Cable Bay to anybody and have already shared my horrible experience this weekend with many people. It came across that nobody cared and they simply do not rely on repeat custom. It is very clear that they just rely on tourists that come over to Waiheke for the day. It's sad as for many of these tourists Cable Bay would be the reason why they have a negative experience and leave New Zealand with a less than appealing impression. The food was good however and the only reason they scraped a 2 star review from me. Get your act together Cable Bay!!More

Very poor. We each had a different wine tasting flight. The majority of the the wines were from elsewhere in NZ. For at least three of the wines we were told that they would taste much better in one or two years (so why serve...them at a tasting where you are trying to promote your wines?!) Of the eight wines, I would not choose to drink another glass of any of them, never mind a bottle. We have had great tastings in Blenheim and Havelock North as well as all over Australia. We did however have an excellent glass of Albariño at Mudbrick up the road. Give Cable Bay a wide berth and head elsewhere on Waiheke. Needless to say we cancelled lunch.More

Simply fresh, delicious food. The torched prawns were a visual delight. The pork belly divine. See the photos for the most gorgeous desserts. Also very happy with the wine selections.

This was our final stop on our vineyard tour. The staff were super friendly and charismatic and the wines were really good too. The view from the tasting room was incredible and even though the place was busy we felt welcomed.

Was recommended this winery by our bus driver. On entering we were very impressed with the decor and look of the place. It was raining and not very busy. We went in and waited a good 5 minutes and eventually had to go and ask...if we could have a drink. We got seated and ordered 2 Sauvignon bland which were served warm. We complained and got another 2 and they were just as bad. Very disappointed in the service and the wine as everywhere else we have been on the island has been great.More

Welcomed on arrival by efficient staff who explained options. Participated in cellar door wine tasting of the vineyard wines, good background information by knowledgeable staff. Had snack lunch on terrace, good choice of foods and well served by Sante (Argentinian)

I would give this joint a wide birth We paid $80 for 4 people to wine taste however this isn’t taken off when you purchase your wine We weren’t offered any water, no spitoon, no biscuits, and shoved into the corner of the restaurant when...my father in law asked for a biscuit he was told to buy a cheese platter There were more staff than customers on the day so it wasn’t like they were run off their feet. This is a restaurant trying to be a winery In the end having paid for the tasting and the wine that we bought (2bottles) we could have gone to Countdown and tasted 5 bottles of their wine.More

We visited today for lunch as a family of 8. From the moment we arrived the service was first class. The menu and wine list were explained and we were given plenty of time to peruse the menu. The food was first class and the...wine delicious. Highly recommend the dessert and wine tasting dish. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.More

-This place was the biggest cluster F. We were apprehensive at first after seeing the 3.6 star rating, but decided to give it a shot after a friends recommendation. We showed up and thought wow! This looks amazing how could this only get 3.6 stars....We later found out why. We went to the cellar door and it was roasting hot. I asked if we could sit outside and they said yes so we selected our tasting and paid. Immediately after paying, the lady tells me the outside is only for the restaurant and we can’t go there. She puts us in the tasting room and it’s ROASTING hot despite seeing vents that clearly weren’t operable. We had half the tasting and literally needed to leave because of the heat. My boyfriend runs hot and he was sweating through his clothes dying and saying “this is fine” although visibly it wasn’t. I insisted we go out to the outdoor restaurant seating. The host was missing for 5+ minutes so I had to track down a waitress just to get a table. We ordered food and wine, the wine was just okay (sauv) but the oysters and calamari were good. It starts pouring rain so we are forced to move tables. The band was doing sound check and it was the most obnoxious experience of our lives. We were stuck next to the speaker of these guys doing sound check with blaring volume 100 music. We then had to go pay at the bar because there was such bad service at the table. The whole thing was just such a mess and they need to hire and train more staff. We wished we stayed longer at Mudstone Vineyards and didn’t waste our time trying to get a second (inferior) vineyard in. The property is lovely so I think if they got new management this has the potential to be a real gem. I suggest to travelers to go to Mudstone next door instead until this place gets their stuff together.More

We travelled to the island and hD lunch at the restaurant. We ordered two sharing platters for four, which were generous and really good. Had some lovely Syrah to wash it down. You also enjoy great views of the bay. What's not to like!

We we walked up here from the ferry on the footpath through the nature reserve. Arrived 11.30 just after it opened and we were the first customers. Although we made it clear we only wanted a glass of wine we were welcomed into the dining...area from where we had a great view over the vineyard and to the sea. We were offered a taster of the wines we were interested in and we had glasses of the Waiheke rose and chardonnay which were both excellent and reasonably priced at $18. We were also served complimentary water which we appreciated after the short walk uphill on a warm day! The waitress was very efficient and friendly. You can walk down into Oneroa easily enough and then it's a mile back to the ferry. A great option for a half-day on the Island if you can walk ok and don't want to bother with buses and taxis!More

I'm not sure, but it's unlikely. Getting a wine and some snacks, though, is worth paying.
