Good all day and night

We had breakfast and dinner at Canteen in the same day, based on the menus we saw. Breakfast overlooking the ocean is hard to beat and the meals are fresh and hearty. Dinner is a step up and the asian inspired menu is clearly prepared by someone skilled in the kitchen. We had the shared plates and a litre of a lychee/strawberry mojito which was all excellent. The shanghai pork dumplings and duck spring rolls are a must try.

Dinner after Covid Restrictions

Had dinner after forced closure for covid 19. Great Duck Spring Rolls, Crispy Skin Fish , Portugese Chicken and Sticky Date pudding. Beautifully cooked and presented and with great service from Sherene. Thanks to all for a great night. Lisa and I are glad you are open again.

Canteen Restaurant has very nice food and good service

Canteen Restaurant was very busy when we arrived at 6.00 pm which is always a great indication they serve a good meal. Well they certainly did deliver good food and service and we were very happy with what we received. Very nice and relaxed outlook and smooth service and we didn’t have to wait long for our meals. They happy hour and tapas which adds to the other times of service for breakfast and lunch. We just might have to go back for another visit.

The coffee was nice at least.

We went for a late breakfast to this restaurant. The sign at the entrance asked us to use the QR code and wait to be seated. We used the QR code and wait we did! Eventually we went to the bar then were taken to a table. The waiting theme continued before we asked a passing staff member if we had to attend the bar area to place our order. Eventually I got to ordered the breakfast burger which arrived topped with a very undercooked egg. The table next to us contained a family complete with their dog. Also in the corner was a gentleman getting changed. Apparently this half naked man turned out to be an on coming cook!! I know Coolum is a relaxed place but really.... Anyway the coffee was very nice.

Quality & Value Terrible.

Ordered a takeaway. 2 x coffee & 1 x Banana Walnut Toast with “ Caramel Butter”. Total cost $19.60. Ordered & waited about 10 mins and coffees arrived. After another 15 minutes waiting asked about toast. Told 1 minute away. Pretty sure it was forgotten. Not overly busy at this time 0715hrs with waitresses caught up with order’s and tables etc. Toast arrived in what felt like an almost empty box ( Note to self - check what’s inside)Got back to Unit 2 mins later. Coffee was ok. Toast for $9.60 was nothing short of pathetic. 1x small end piece of loaf. See pic. Butter was not Caramel Butter, just 2 x small solid 20c size pieces of normal butter. Shameful for chef to deliver, obviously no pride in quality with focus on just taking the customers money and should be embarrassed for himself and Restaurant Owner and to ask $9.60 for this is disgraceful. Far from being acceptable in every aspect. Would never go there again!

bad lunch

40 minutes for a pizza and steamed greens and then another 10 for my friends burger while it was a very quiet day. Only 1 chef in kitchen, my friends burger came out last with no chips so we had to wait another 10 for the chips to come out that were included with the burger. Food was ok but it wasn’t worth the price wouldn’t go again

Most expensive breakfast menu on Coast?

We went for breakfast, have to say this place is expensive compared with most cafes on the coast. Cost $26 for pancakes (2) with bacon. Food tasted fine, staff friendly however we would not be back as felt it was overpriced. We go out for breakfast on the coast probably twice a week and this is honestly the most expensive menu we have seen.

Appalling service and rude staff

I took my sister in law for lunch on 31/3/22 and was really disappointed with both the service and the staff attitude. We had to wait for nearly an hour for a cold plate of cured meat, cheese and turkish bread, 3 scallops and a bowl of chips even though the restaurant was not busy at all, no wonder the chef was constantly on his phone. The cold plate was meant to have gorgonzola cheese and had goats cheese substituted and when we enquired about this the waitress was dismissive and went into the kitchen to laugh about it with the chef. When we went to pay and queried the order they told us that we should have let them know before we ate however how would you know and besides the chef knew, they should have taken responsibility and probably let me know beforehand so I could change my order was not prepared to send it back and wait another hour. Begrudgingly they took the amount off the bill but will never recommend or dine there again.

Had a great night with great

Had a great night with great service from staff. Interrupted by some disrespectful visitors refusing to pay the 15% loading for a public holiday. Infuriating with the selfish disregard for an industry and staff that have been devastated by the Covid19 crisis. Food was great, beers cold and great restraint from the manager in handling the rude visitors. Always a great place to relax with good food. Thanks for a great night.

Dog allowed near tables

The food and service was great. However, a very large dog was allowed to enter the food area, sit at the table with its owners and drool over the table. The staff then wiped the table followed by the rest of the tables, with the same cloth. I don’t mind animals, but not sitting on a chair at the tables where we consume food. The dog owner should know better as well.

New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve 2020! 8:15 sitting We had an excellent 5 course menu. Each dish was created perfectly. Kingfish, prawns, porkbelly, beef, desert! To top it all, the other couple were Vegans and a full 5 course menu was offered too!! Staff were friendly and fun. Restaurant offers a casual ambience overlooking Coolum beach where we watched the Fireworks! Overall the evening was perfect. A great way to welcome 2020!

I cannot recommend this place.

I went with my family for dinner. The service was well below average. The food was disappointing. The price did not reflect quality (I believe this place is overpriced in terms of quality/service.) I will never eat here again and unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone considering eating here.

Don’t waste your money - bland food and met with attitude from

The manager of this place has a very poor attitude with zero customer relation skills for honest feedback with zero resolution. She just lost two customers because of her attitude and demeanour which ruined a lovely night out. I hate writing reviews like this - but sometimes people need to be told and forewarned and you can make an informed decision based on real experiences and how management deals with resolution - or lack thereof. The “crispy” barramundi was bland, cold and most certainly not crispy. (We showered it with salt and pepper to add some sort of flavouring) The scallops were also bland and average. Sure we ate it, but you know those moments where you’re just too hungry to think… Paying good money for crap food is a total annoyance and especially when it’s met with attitude and distain from a “manager.” Very very disappointed. Highly suggest you save your money and avoid this over priced average restaurant, which we will be doing in the future.

What a disappointment!

Have to agree with the one stars here - have no idea where the five stars came from! We visited with our sons one evening just before New Years 2020, hoping for a wonderful time (I've been before and had great breakfasts). But the evening was a disaster from start to finish. Our waitress was the surliest lady you could wish for. After seating us, she disappeared totally! The only reason we got drinks was because we went to the bar and ordered for oursleves. To cut a long story short, the customer service was abysmal, which is a huge shame as the chef's food quality was great. But I will definitely not be going there again until the wait staff have been sorted out - as others have said, a simple smile and good manners go a long way.

Disappointing afternoon

Disappointing afternoon at Canteen. Waited for ages out the front for someone to acknowledge us, let alone seat us. Waited about 10 minutes to be able to order a drink as our waitress disappeared. The waitress was rude and surly, like it was a chore to serve us. There was a large group of men that obviously knew some of the staff and seemed to be getting all of the service. Cocktails were good quality. We didn’t realise it was happy hour when we booked our table. Happy hour is great, as long as you have enough staff to meet demand. Other people were left waiting outside for long periods of time before being acknowledged. Plenty of other places to get a drink in Coolum with much better service.
