Always a charming venue, the food continued to be well presented and the staff were very attentive. Although our preferred table was not available, a table outside was offered as an alternative, and on a lovely summer’s evening this was just perfect. The venue takes pride in the ingredients all being locally sourced, and the waiting staff were knowledgeable about ingredients and very friendly and approachable. As always, we recommend.

Food, ambiance and service all excellent. First time dinners at Millbrook resort for us. When we arrived it was already dark so we were looking for the correct building (Millbrook has several restaurants) when we were stopped by another couple of other guests (likely regulars) and asked if they could help us. We said we were after the Millhouse and they pointed to the correct building and said we would be in for a wonderful night and amazing food. They were right! Although there is an Ala Carte menu we choose the degustation chefs choice menu. Amazing. We both ate things we would not have ordered from the menu but throughly enjoyed. It was a masterpiece of flavours. Very enjoyable night at Millbrook. Can’t wait to go back with friends.

A nice restaurant. Good staff, our Canadian waiter was excellent and the food was very good, ambience nice too and in a beautiful resort. They sorted out the birthday cake we bought with us (cake fee charged) without being asked which was good. All in all a very decent option for lunch or dinner.

We were a party of four. We were seated promptly and offered water including tap. We were then shown the wine list and the menu, a somewhat limited selection. On the reverse were listed seasonal vegetables which we understood are grown in the Millbrook garden. However, no vegetables are available on the menu. When questioned the waitress replied that vegetables were not offered but crumbs were. In the meantime we had ordered drinks including two well known beers which were served to the table in bottles which had been slightly spilt. (Fine dining service?!).After a little hesitation we decided to leave. We were left with a sense of disappointment. Our expectations did not meet the experience of other diners.

we had dined at Millhouse restaurant several years ago for a special celebration and we were excited to book again for our son's birthday. We got the shuttle bus from Arrowtown which was quick and efficient. In the restaurant there was an open fire but with an inefficient chimney so the smell of smoke was persistent. We ordered some bread and whipped garlic butter to start for an eye watering $15 . The menu was odd: they said the plates were for sharing and yet they weren't tapas style at all. I'm not good at sharing and chose the kingfish starter which was fine. My main was the thick spaghetti, brocollini and shellfish. It came in small bowl, no parts of the above were readily identifiable, and when i tasted it it was incredibly salty. inedible. i mean inedible. I sent it back and they agreed it was too salty and asked if i wanted something else. No i didn't. They apologised but there was no effort to try and make amends, such as a free glass of wine . I don;t mind paying for an expensive restaurant but it needs equivalent value in service and food quality. We were very disappointed and left without dessert, saddened and disappointed. Won't risk going back.

I had the Ruben sandwich which was nothing like what it should be. The meat tasted funny and not at all like corned beef. The slaw detracted from the sandwich. We also had the salmon, which was not as good as the last time about a year ago.

The service at The Millhouse is topnotch and the young gentleman serving us really knew his local wines and wine pairing. Each meal was beautifully presented and the ingredients explained. The view of the mountains as the sun was setting topped it off. We enjoyed the dessert wine so much we bought a bottle at the restaurant & back home with us. Looking forward to cracking it open one night! Thank you Millhouse for a very enjoyable fine dining experience.

The only word that sums up our evening is WOW. As soon as we walked in we were very politely greeted at the door by our waiter Dylan who took our jackets and kindly showed us to our table. It wasn’t directly by the fire but you didn’t need to be as the room was very warm and cosy. We opted for the taste of Millhouse which is a six course degustation and even decide to splash out and get the wine matching aswell. Dylan was amazing from start to finish, he was very professional and knowledgable but approachable at the same time. He explained every ingredient of the food we were eating and why the wine he matched would perfectly match the food it was accompanied. We were a little bit hesitant at first as we thought it was going to be a lot of food but in the end we left perfectly full with a great seasonal strudel to finish off. Thank you very much Millhouse team for a wonderful evening. Couldn’t have asked for a better night to end our holiday. Highly recommend!!!

We took our hosts here for dinner one night and we all enjoyed it very much. The decor is gorgeous, with candles in sconces on the walls creating a romantic ambiance. Large timbers and a stone fireplace complete the cozy atmosphere. Meal portions were small but very delicious. They didn’t have the greatest selection to choose from; but what we had was good. There’s a lot of ‘strange’ items on the menu accompanying the meals. I can’t even remember the names. I would’ve ordered the steak, but the accompaniments didn’t appeal to me. My salmon was excellent; as was my friend’s duck and pork belly. Compared to some of the extremely expensive places we’ve eaten, we found the prices reasonable here for such a beautiful ambiance. Desserts are expensive though, and wine is very dear.

Very underwhelmed and disappointed. Staff seemed disinterested and unhappy, the restaurant was extremely cold when we arrived, and it didn’t warm up in 2 hours. We were sitting in our coats and jackets to keep warm. Menu was dated, food boring and the whole place just felt sad and tired. Not much else to say other than take a warm coat if you’re visiting in autumn / winter, and don’t expect too much!

AMAZING! Upon arrival at Millbrook we started our night with a drink at Smithys Whiskey bar and headed in for dinner. We opted for the Taste of Millhouse (6 course meal and immediately were impressed with the abuiance of a fire roaring and of a unique setting. The staff were super welcoming and the food/drinks came out fast and we enjoyed the sharing concept. The wines by the glass were fantastic and the staff and great reccomndations for food pairing. The salmon was phenomenal and bread w pickles and crudities is recommended. Thanks again for ALL the teams attention and effort! Keep it up! :) Phenomenal night!

Milhouse has always been the top restaurant in NZ for us. From the beginning of the experience till the end...managers, front of house staff, chefs, location - professionals. Absolutely divine flavours, mind blowing ideas and thoughtful creativity with beautiful presentation as always - our favourite dish was Tuna ceviche and Tyramisu doughnuts. What a fantastic idea to serve dessert in a different way. Knowledgeable and helpful staff with very high standards, positive attitude is very rare to see these days-that’s what makes this place the best of its kind. Superb service! We will be coming back each time we enter QT because you just cannot go wrong here!!! Well done you guys!

My wife and I were staying at the Millbrook resort and on the recommendation of the reception staff had dinner at the Millstream restaurant. The only time available for the two of us was 7:45 which was late for us but we agreed, expecting something special. We had shared a salad at the casual restaurant at the resort which was exceptional, so we were really looking forward to what they could produce in the evening. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. When we got there we noted a number of very nice tables at the front and outside. Not for us, we were told, instead we were sent to the main body of the restaurant which was absolutely empty, leading us to wonder why we could not have eaten there at an earlier time. There was nothing wrong with our table, but that feeling of isolation did nothing to enhance our evening. The service was fairly slow as was the delivery of the food. When it arrived, We agreed it was good, not great. I should point out we are not great foodies, so it is possible some of the sophistication of the dishes was lost on us. This is a very expensive place, however, and we had higher expectations. Having spent the majority of the meal alone, towards the end we were joined by a large and noisy group. With that we made our way out to a surprise on the bill. After taking our order, the server asked if we would like bread with our meal. We said yes, and when it came, it was very good. What she did not mention was that $15 would be added to the bill. Judging from other reviews, it is clear ours was not a common experience. It is unfortunate expecting some exceptional only to leave feeling so dissatisfied.

The Millhouse is located in a spectacular building. From there it's a rapid downhill descent fit for olympic competition. With the fire lit on our arrival, the place was freezing and our request to move closer to the only source of heat denied by a disinterested maitre d' for no good reason. The menu might have been on point in the nineties, just add creme brûlée and the revival experience is complete. The chicken tasted worse than reheated KFC from a Dunedin student flat. All in all a dreadful dining experience that we should not have to endure these days. Put this thing out of its misery and replace it with something befitting the venue before more damage is done please!

We have been staying at Millbrook every year for the past six years and we love the place. We just had dinner at the Millhouse for the first time since pre covid and the experience pre covid was great. Tonight was a horror. The mushroom dish was a bowl of green slop without mushrooms, the tempura vegetables was the most unhealthy dish imaginable, the beloved chips were a one from ten, the line caught snapper was dreadful. We are embarrassed to have raved about the Millhouse to our friends in Sydney as there were here four weeks ago and obviously did not want to voice their disapproval of the Millhouse. We just called them to apologise and they opened up and gave us their honest opinion. Something very wrong in the kitchen.
