Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We went for a family birthday...and many orders had to be filled - at least forty of us. Great service, as it was quick to arrive from the kitchen, cooked well, and the service was really thoughtful, with water brought when requested. Thank you for a great event.

We have frequently visited Kings Plant Barn Botany for lunch and had an amazing experience. Really good food for a garden centre cafe and our first choice for a nice lunch. Unfortunately we visited today to find that the menu had changed. I am vegetarian and there was only 2 choices for me, usually I am spoilt fo choice! Also, we were left at our table without being brought menus or even being acknowledged. In the end we decided to leave without being served. It is a shame as this was our go to place for lunch, however will not rush back now as something has changed and not for the better unfortunately.

Have been coming here for many years , even back when it was The Wholesale Tree Company . Despite the changes over the years , the place retains a unique character , though offering less of the ''bargains'' of 30 years ago . The setting of the cafe is particularly attractive , and is the ideal place at which to recuperate after ambling through the extensive grounds.

Beautiful atmosphere ruined by snobby waitresses. Had to wait 15 mins for someone to take our order despite putting our hand up and trying to get their attention- we were acknowledged then ignored. Then brought out the wrong coffee order which we couldnt be bothered to correct at this point. Noone was remotely friendly. Shocking service- avoid at all cost.

Visited 15.9.20 about 11.30am. I ordered apple pie. Was supposed to come with 2 scoops of ice cream, whipped cream and sprinkles. Charged full amount, only came with whipped cream. My friend ordered a toasted sandwich with ham and cheese. Goodness knows what the cheese was. Looked like an egg yoke oozing out. My friends cup was dirty, I returned it. We both ordered English Tea. Well it was lukewarm. We live local, but I will think twice before visiting again. So much for "buying local". My phone number is 0272737725 just in case you feel like bringing me.

Wide selection of deli and menu items, nice kids area for the little ones, food over priced but the coffee is good. It’s obviously had a change of owners as it’s presentation is higher than we have seen on previous visits.

We’re a family that enjoys the occasional breakfast out. We have found that the breakfast options are somewhat limited in Auckland. Plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from, but all offering essentially the same fare. The Friend of the Farmer cafe at King’s Plant Barn has some really nice breakfast items that differ from other places. We’ve been here about a dozen times and have found the place pretty consistent. Service is good, food delicious, and prices reasonable.

There is a cafe in the middle of Kings Plant Barn in Takanini. It has been a number of years since I have been there and my memories of it as a nice location in a park-like setting for lunch were very pleasant, so I thought it would be nice to go back with the family. Unfortunately it was quite a disappointing experience. The service was fine, very pleasant and helpful staff, however the furniture felt sticky and generally unclean, there were heaps and heaps of flys (it was so bad they were falling in your food) and I found the prices too high ($4.50 for a small fizzy drink). It wasn’t a horrendous experience, but I won’t be back.

Had the big breakfast and the eggs Benedict here. Lovely portions and seasonings. Tucked away in midst of plants and outdoor water feature makes you feel like you’ve been transported to exotic resort. Friendly staffs and its pet friendly!

Have been multiple times now and tries a few different dishes. All meals we have had have been enjoyed except one which was so so. I got the chicken bacon and mushroom pasta once which was yum but on a later visit my fried ordered the same 'chick bacon and mushroom' pasta dish which is on the menu, it came out with no mushrooms, it tasted quite strongly of wine, like it hadn't been cooked out properly and the pasta was slightly too al dente for our liking, completely different to the time i had this as my meal. However she did not say anything as we didn't have time to wait for it to be fixed, which i am sure they would have done. Price is pretty average for a cafe however the milkshakes we found a bit pricey for the size and that it was just the 'thirst' powder. Coffee is always good and sweet stuff from the cabinet that we have tasted has been really good... sweet muffin and salted caramel cronut. However some staff, although friendly need to be a little more knowledgable, when asked what flavour the muffin is we were told 'sweet'. The atmosphere and ambience is very nice and relaxed, with a lot of seating. They provide a children's area with toys and are dog friendly with water bowls provided. Would recommend this cafe for a social visit with friends and family or even a solo visit to relax with a coffee and a book.

Forget the plants you have to go for the food at the plant barn but saying that they staff are super friendly and helpful on the plant side of things. But the food is amazing and extra yummy. You get a decent meal, a good variety, cheery staff and excellent range of goodies.

We had a big breakfast and my partner had an omelette. The big breakfast was disgusting it was flooded with oil. The bacon, the mushrooms, the sausages all tasted of oil. Both dishes had bread but no butter was offered. The napkins supplied were wet!!! Wrapped around the Cutlery. Hot chocolates were fine. Would not recommend visiting here again For 52 dollars for two people I expect a decent breakfast. I could of certainly done better at home with my eyes closed.
