Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I should start by saying the bread and sandwiches also deserve a mention, but my sweet tooth takes over big time whenever I stop by Ya Bon. While I live in Napier, I am fortunate to go to Hastings frequently, and I always walk in with a large carrier bag, and walk out with it full. My favourites include their almond croissant. Their website shows a person cutting into one of these delights. Just looking at that one knows they are outstanding. Their palmiers (elephant ears) are beyond belief. Try a baguette with blue cheese, in fact try anything on display. You will not be disappointed, and you will return again and again.

This cafe was a real find today. We ‘happened upon’ it and will be stopping in again tomorrow on our way home from a Hawkes Bay holiday. Being unable to decide on which pastry to select we chose three - raspberry donut, cinnamon brioche and a blueberry/almond tart! All three were just delicious- so delicious that we couldn’t decide on a definite winner. Well worth a visit. YUM.

Great spot for morning coffee and French pastry fix. Had local roasted coffee and house made pastries. Lovely atmosphere to dine in!

Just unbelievable… I really am so embarrassed for them. Firstly the m visiting from Bay of Plenty for a sterile training for the flood ravaged area of Hawkes Bay . In response to their URGENT are request, for up to date training for tracking instruments, basic sterile conduct, providing services on their request, at short notice. So my husband and myself started on our journey. Having the opportunity to travel the world, living over seas, I have become and epicurean. I cook and grow my own foods. Have done for over 20 years, hence my desire to live in the Bay. Now I did some googling and found what I thought was an outstanding food source, local to the area… Boy was I wrong‼️ First day I was was urgently waiting on confirmation on the numbers of people attending our service any where between 45-15, so providing my husband could inform me , I felt completely capable of providing a much appreciated morning tea. The first day at $110 was a complete success. 10/10, staff were ecstatic, and so was I. Food 10+serves 10+presentation 10+ Second day a complete nightmare. Staff -100 rude, uninformed, disinterested. Presentation a box labeled crazy, and a toss in of cakes, that ruined them! Wow I can’t believe how horrible This experience was…

Ya Bon
Please note Firsthand Coffee currently manages Cupple Cafe within our Bakery not Y’a Bon It seems a miscommunication between the bakery and the staff of Firsthand Coffee has resulted in a less than optimal box being provided but would argue it was unsanitary The box was labeled Crazy as in ‘Crazy Good’ one of our Napier wholesale customers also run by Firsthand Coffee It is really unfortunate if you thought it was directed at yourself by any member of the bakery or cafe team Although the customer service left you unhappy and although the cafe team are not employed by Ya Bon we do apologise but can say the Firsthand team are in general genuinely friendly and good natured young people To address the issues you raised: It seems quite misleading to say gloves where not used when the product is handled with tongs It does appear from the photo the pastries where placed with care as they present undamaged even though delicate It is my understanding the Cupple server did not intentionally turn and walk away from you but was focused on arranging your pastries However customer perception is an integral part of skilled hospitality and the lack of results in a snowball of strained interaction We are super appreciative of your support, for our business and the region and as you mention your first experience met your expectations 10+ Unfortunately some interactions fall short and we will use this experience to ensure better communication between Firsthand Coffee and ourselves and recommend a training refresh for Firsthand Team to recognise, diffuse and remedy any customer concerns

We were very impressed by this cafe/bakery. Big city industrial vibe with excellent coffee and pastries. And always noce to see into the bakery itself to see the production process. Recommended.

Quality breads, croissants, sweet things etc baked in the European tradition - with quality ingredients, mixed and baked with love and care. Very well done - happy to pay the extra for quality products.

We are regular visitors to Ya Bon. The pastries are outstanding and always freshly made. Great coffee, friendly staff who are always helpful. There is a courtyard at the back which is fantastic on a sunny day

Great style with open windows to bakery. The best bread and pastries in Hawkes Bay! Great place we are proud to have in our midst Modern sleek design. Great block of shops by the way: a real Chocolaterie across the road! Cornucopia Heath food with Taste Cafe. the funkiest bar in the bay (Common Room) And a great little 2nd hand bookshop.

Very good coffee and of course French pastries. The men loved the custard filled doughnuts and they also have tasty filled baguettes. Filter coffee was good and they did a pour over for me when we went back before leaving Hastings.

We went in about 11 am for morning tea. Hardly ant food left. Quite a poor selection. The chocolate croissant was ok but was not asked if I wanted it heated. The French stick with ham and mustard was very good and the coffee was fine. Go early.
