The open plan layout is inviting and clean and the service is informative and welcoming! The atmosphere was lively, but you never had to fight over the music or other patrons to be heard.  The menu is sleek, easy to read and discriptive. The wine list had me struggling to pick a favourite. Each wine was divine and world class (I tried a few, incl the Chianti and the Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva - they we're amazing) Lucky for me I had Laura give me advice on which would suit my meal best and I choose the house special Primitivo, which was medium bodied and fruit forward. A delight! The food, where to start! The foccasia bread is a must have. It's warm and doughy and is a perfect combination of light and heavy - a perfect amuse bouche. The buffalo mozzarella with eggplant and breadcrumbs had me drooling before it came out. The flavour combination was fantastic; creamy, crunchy, savoury and with the sprigs of basil, it made every mouthful a sensational delight. I had the 4 cheese gnocchi which was pillowly and soft (just as it should be). The 4 cheeses matched well and with the crumb worked seemlessly together. I also got to try the special of the day. It was al dente pork tortellini served with a tomato sauce, a touch of cream and some aged balsamic. The soft pork blended perfectly with the sauce, each flavour complimenting the other, sweet - savoury, creamy with a tastful spice. This dish was no bore. I could eat over and over again. Every aspect of flavour worked in with the other balancing the whole dish. You couldn't be disappointed from this special or make it any better. Perfection. I highly recommend.  To finish, we had the blue cheese. It was served with honeycomb and crackers and it too, was a delight. The cheese was rich and creamy with a lovely peppery finish. The honeycomb balanced this nicely.  Alongside this I had the best espresso martini I've had in a long time. It was so well rounded in it's flavour. Flavors of coffee, vanilla, a hint of spice and chocolate, at no point did it fall flat on my pallete, it wasn't too sweet either. All and all I will be back again!! Thank you so much!!!

We headed out post Covid-19 lockdown to experience Italy in Hastings and were not disappointed. Great atmosphere, service and intimate ambience. The food was exceptional and well priced the wine an Italian Rosso went well with the dishes we shared. Particularly enjoyed the gnocchi and salmon . The home made bread is a triumph.

This was a great Friday dinner in Hastings. The food was lovely best ever focaccia bread ever - yum. Nice choice of cocktails, wine and beer, watching the bar man making cocktails was very entertaining and they looked great. My gnocchi was delicious. The truffle and coffee an other level, fabulous coffee. Service was great we had a tight time frame they did their best to ensure we could get our meals on time. They were lovely to everyone. We will be going back with friend next time. it was that good.

First we were greeted by a rude unpleasant host then it took 20 min to receive our drinks which were incorrect not a good start when given the menu we all found it hard to read in the light and the small print . After ordering we received our meals which were deliverd to the wrong people the meals were disappointing to say the least 2 of them were not edible not anywhere close to how they were described by the waitress pasta was under cooked on all four meals. The over all service and meals made an impression that will make us never come back and will not reccomend it to our friends or family .. but I must say the meal and service we had at fun buns afterwards was amazing I would reccomend they go there to expereience what dining out should be like

We knew we would have a wait to have a table and understand there is a staffing shortage. However, we noticed that there seems to be some organization things that mean the service is slow and we were left waiting for an hour to order drinks. Then when we were ready for another round, it was another long wait. By the time the second glass of wine arrived we had finished our mains. Food wise it was mixed. The pasts is unquestionably divine but the meatballs were quite salty. The gnocchi was excellent and the desserts were delicious. Probably will return but not in a rush to go back soon.

I had read the great reviews and was so looking forward to dining at Sazio's. I was totally disappointed. We started with the foccacia bread, which arrives very dark brown, but not burnt. It was quite good, but when I didn't finish my piece, I was berated by the waitress to the point where I was ready to be sent to the naughty corner. Then came the arancini, which were okay, but not outstanding, and tiny. Finally, I ordered a second entree, the ceviche, which comes with avocado and kumera chips. The chips looked lovely, but when I tasted one, it was so heavily coated in salt that it was very unpleasant. I gave one to my companion to ensure my taste buds weren't having a bad night, and she couldn't finish one chip. Unfortunately as they had been placed on top of the avocado, the salt had permeated that and it too was not eatable. The tuna ceviche was good, but nothing exceptional. I explained why I could not eat the majority of my entree, and was assured the chef would be told, but was not offered a reduction. I was asked if I wanted anything else, and I presume this would have been at no or reduced cost. But I wasn't game enough to try anything else. In summary - extremely disappointing!

Honestly a great restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere, with a fantastic look to the detailing down to chairs and tables and light fittings. With a easy to follow menu that is absolutely superb in quality and taste (pasta is even cooked al dente🤤🤩) and a well thought out wine list that the staff are more then happy to help you match to the food you're ordering. If you're looking for specials that sound and taste amazing then definitely go for them at sazio because the confit pork and onion ravioli was outstanding! Thank you so much to the team at sazio for a amazing dining experience, you guys have really smashed it out of the park with flavor, atmosphere and service 👏👏👏

First time eating here since they opened and we love having a local that we can walk to. We are privileged to have this gem in Hastings. Really tasty food , good service ( in a full restaurant) and a very interesting wine menu with the delicious dryer styles of Italy. Hopefully they will be able to add the outside tables in to the evening service as it gets warmer. There are no bookings for smaller groups but they seemed to be able to accomodate everyone who turned up.

From the moment we arrived we were in the best of hands . The owner Laura was warm ,professional, and after following her suggestion of taking the sampler ,we were transported to the most wonderful dining experience . Every dish was infused with so much flavour and all the tastebuds were rejoicing . I was transported to Italy without having to go there. As a foodie and chef I was so satisfied at every dish that arrived. There was nothing to fault .I can’t wait to come back to truly the best restaurant I have been to. Value for money 100 percent . Service 100 percent I truly wish for this restaurant to be around for a long time to come as it is phenomenal.Thank you for everything Laura .

We came here for a family celebration and got just what we were hoping for - a warm, delicious, authentic Italian food experience. The cafe was busy, noisy and happy. The food choices were excellent and everybody loved what they had chosen. From the fragrant warmed olives spiced with orange and fennel through to the rich parpadelle ragout, the food was unfailingly delicious. The staff ( especially the lovely waitress) were great and made us feel most welcome - even a complimentary limoncello for our dad on his 84th birthday. Simply a wonderful experience.

This was recommended to us by a local who raved about it. She wasn’t wrong. We did a $70 per head Chef’s choice and shared around four starters, four mains and a couple of desserts. Everything was amazing and we were able to watch the kitchen at work being seated right next to it. Excellent service all evening and when we asked for extras they were cheerfully provided. We’ll be back next time we are in the Hawkes Bay.

What a disappointment. The food was extremely oily. After not eating more than a few mouthfuls, I tipped my plate to the side, only to have a waterfall of oil come gushing out. The pasta sauce was bland, unimaginative and could have been thrown together by a sloppy backpacker. Don't waste ALOT of your money going there ($28 for a plate of dog grizzle bolognaise with some fancy name).

Small menu selection but what they have the do extremely well. Gemelli with Garlic Prawns was my choice and it was scrumptious, and Caramel Dessert was the best. Service was great. Well done to the team for seeing a gap in the market.

As a table of two we were sat at the pass which was a nice change from a typical table. We tried the ‘Feed Me’ menu at $80pp and it was incredible! We were given a selection of starters which all came out at a steady pace and were all so tasty. We then had a wee break before mains which was perfect (as we were already feeling pretty satisfied!). We were served 2 mains and a side dish one after the other (potato ravioli & linguine w beef ragu) and polished off both despite being totally full. It was a nice touch from the chef to check we had had enough before sending desserts, we were offered another main which unfortunately we just could not fit in! Desserts were just as amazing - a chocolate truffle and banana beignet. Thanks so much Sazio - will definitely be back!

We were going out to a show last night, the first show in years and decided to make a real night of it & have a meal out first. My husband rung just before mid day to book a table and the lady said that as there was only two of us that there would not be a problem that we might just have to have a drink at the bar before they could seat us. So we arrived at 6 to be told they were full and we couldn’t dine there. We then went on to explained what we had been told and the chap just replied, sorry about that. It was just a disappointment and a bad start to our night out as everywhere else was full. Very poor customer service.
