Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a popular spot for cyclists on their way through, and it was a cyclist who recommended trying this place. We'd been told that quality varies between visits and our stop was, shall I say, average.
While the coffee and chai were acceptable, neither was really a standout for us. The carrot muffin I had was clearly not fresh and while it was tasty enough, I probably wouldn't have it again.
The wait staff seemed really young and inexperienced, but they were trying hard to please and I know that they can only improve with experience and time, so good on them for taking initiative and choosing to work in such a "tricky" industry.
Would we return ? Yes, we would. I'd love to see the improvement in food and service between our visits.

It seems to be a fairly popular place. The layout is nice enough, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is limited and cafe-ish, but far from hopeless. The nachos were decent. The biggest drawbacks are: only a small selection (3 or 4) white wines, and no red wines at all. Plus, only a few bottled "industrial" beers, no craft beer selection at all. And this is a place that bills itself as a cafe AND BAR. Forget the "and bar" part, think just garden-variety cafe.

Lunch on Thursday, the cafe was busy, but oh things move slow out there, the food is average and you do wonder how some cafe people select the cabinet food. The staff are not very friendly ,to what is often a table of senior clients ,so you get the feel of a cold atmosphere,

I wonder whether the hype has gone. We called in for lunch and there weren't many people, which seemed unusual. The coffee was nice but the cabinet meals were not. Both items, a pie and an enchilada, seemed like they had been heated in a microwave. The pie was soggy and misshapen, having collapsed in on itself. The enchilada, while the filling was generous, lacked in taste. The tortilla wrap was soggy in parts and dried out on the edges. Why someone would cover the meal in an Asian sweet chilli sauce is quite beyone me. The Mexican spice taste was non existant. So, I'm afraid, that's it for us.

I ordered a chocolate brownie. It tasted slightly musty. Tow others tried it and agreed. I politely informed the waitress. When the Manager came she informed me that she had tried one and it was fine. “They are only a week old “ she said and insisted that I try another one. I politely declined and asked for a refund which was refused.

Miserable staff
Absolutely no atmosphere or friendly ness from the staff.
Maybe the wanted to be elsewhere.
Ordered a iced mocha! One would expect it to be cold. Far from it. Seem to be a scoop of ice cream dumped in Luke warm milk.
And don’t bother on the carrot cake. Dry and tasteless.

Just had the most delicious "breakfast bowl". Was so plentiful and a unique spin on standard Granola or Muesli. Can not wait to go back. Yum!

On the cycle tour Great Taste and stopped here for afternoon tea, food was very average.
Waitress wasn’t very helpful with information around the area or even what was a local wine to try.

We dropped into this venue on a warm, windy day cycling to Wakefield. We enjoyed a delicious fruit smoothie before carrying on.
We enjoyed our brief visit and would recommend this as a Great Taste Trail stopping point.

Stopped on the bike trail for a short time. Very nice modern cafe with excellent coffee and a terrific selections of cakes etc. Some people were having their big breakfast which looked terrific. A very good place to break a trip to Wakefield.

My first time to Brightwater and it was an unexpected surprise. Modern facilities and relaxing atmosphere. Bathrooms were clean and tidy.
Ordered two coffees and a hot chocolate which were very nice.
Basic presentation of the coffee (we got lots of cinnamon on the cappuccino).

Dropped in with my teenage daughter for a shake on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Had heard about the extreme shakes but at $10.50 we decided to pass and have a kids extreme shake at, a still quite pricey, $6.50. The young woman behind the counter didn't seem to know much about the shakes and had to ask another staff member what was in them. The cafe was not busy and there was a good choice of tables inside and outside. There was quite a long wait for the shakes and when they came one of the flavours was incorrect. We were brought the correct one immediately but when we asked about the donut which was supposed to come with the shake the young woman thought they did not come with one. I suggested she check the menu and before long the donuts were brought to us. The shakes were very nice, the cabinet food looked good and the menu was interesting but it just didn't capture my interest and I won't be hurrying back.

Stopped here for lunch, quite a bit to choose from but I have seen more extensive menus. I chose from the cabinet, a chicken enchilada which was nice but not a huge serve. I didn’t see the specials board until after I’d ordered otherwise I’d have had the seafood chowder.

My colleague and I popped into this cafe after a trip away to Lake Rotoiti. The restaurant is a short drive off the main highway, with plenty of off street parking. The staff were very friendly and attentive, with no both providing extra milk for collegue and her tea. We both had Fish and Chips, and I couldn't finish mine, their was so much. Reasonably priced for the plate and the coffee was very good too. There is plenty of inside and outside seating areas.
