Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Had a lovely coffee this morning in the café. Gary the owner was really welcoming. Also to celebrate the first day of Level 1 today he was offering a special price on coffees to the clients today. I recommend the place.

Stopped in here when doing the Great Taste cycle trail (spooners Tunnel section) and found this to be the only eatery in town open (aside from the bakery and being Coeliac that wasn’t a good option). Had a lovely frittata and a fantastic orange drizzle cake (both GF) which put some of the bigger city cafes GF offerings to shame (no dry brownie or tiny friands here). Would definitely eat there again if passing through. Friendly service too, positively encouraged to have water when on other trails we’ve occasionally found water to be guarded closely.

We stopped in on our bike ride for a coffee this morning. Coffee and service were great, and the food extra yummy. My orange and almond cake was divine and my husband's afghan excellent. Will be or go-to cafe on future rides.

We were on an e-bike your and stopped in Wakefield for refreshment. Cafe Rhubarb was the perfect spot, I could enjoy a pot of Earl Grey tea with a slice of delicious cake and felt rejuvenated for the next part of our cycle ride

Coffee way too strong - just not nice to drink. Was offered some hot water to dilute it. But in the end, just left it undrunk.

I remember a time when heading to Wakefield for breakfast would have been unheard of. Yet now there are several good options. Cafe Rhubarbe is one of them. You can choose to sit out front where there are several tables on the pavement, or indoors in the light, bright space, flooded with natural light through the large shopfront windows. On the August weekend when we visited, the cafe was further brightened up by vases of fresh spring flowers. It’s a fairly standard menu here, but there is something for everyone, and the meals were tasty. We loved the selection of reading material to browse as we ate. It wasn’t hectic on a Sunday morning, so we had no problem getting a table, and the noise levels were great for conversation and concentration. Will happily return.

We've just visited this café for the first time and it definitely won't be our last. We're new to the area and the staff made us very welcome, including our young kids. We had a range of food and it was all delicious: eggs Benedict with salmon, chicken strips and curly fries, a filo and side salad, berry smoothie, feijoa lemonade, raw orange juice, carrot cake, cheesecake. You can see we were celebrating our new house! We recommend this place to anyone wanting a tasty and friendly lunch on their way through town.

Not much choice in Wakefield so we decided on here. The service was okay, the staff don't really look at you. I had an iced coffee and an eggs Benedict. The bene wasn't bad, good amount of salmon. The iced coffee was warm, even with a scoop of icecream in it. Such a shame on a hot day they can't get the 'iced' part right.

Been there today for lunch,it was sunny and calm, ordered filo, quiche and custard square with two coffees.Where given the cake to take, the coffee arrive, and waited,so had to start eating the custard square ,finished this and finished the coffee, and waited and waited, other people were served,so finally we had to ask for our food,oh they had forgotten about that,so just wait a bit longer and we will heat them for you, don’t you just hate the causal attitude to service, anyway will not waste the mileage next time.

On our way to stay with friends we needed a stop to get caffeinated. Fairly decent coffee, but the milk was a little over hot for my taste, but then I don’t like ‘warm’ coffee either. Our server was very friendly. The day beautifully warm so we sat outside.

We stopped at Wakefield for a late-ish lunch and walking around saw there wasn't much choice. Cafe Rhubarbe seemed the only place open and was relatively busy (due to the only one around) although it looked a little shabby on first glance. The staff came across very unhappy and not very friendly which was a surprise, due to the patrons there. There was no food on offer or menus given and the food in the cabinets seemed to be only sweet ikky cakes, there was nothing savoury on offer. We weren't inspired foodwise so just ordered smoothies ... as there seemed nothing else 'lunchy' we could have and it was a very hot day. The smoothies however took an absolute age to arrive - about 25 minutes!! The smoothies were at least cold but didn't have a great deal of flavour. There was even still a few lumps in them so we found a few stirring sticks to retrieve them. Thinking they were banana or something similar that hadn't been properly blended, we picked these 'lumps' out and ate them, but they were just tasteless, unidentifiable lumps?! Ew! We definitely won't be returning. Just a shame Wakefield doesn't have somewhere nice to eat, as if there was, it would do a roaring trade!

Cafe Rhubarb has replaced Chateaux Rhubarb. It is now just a basic cafe. Went for an evening meal thinking it would be restuarant service in the evenings. It was not. Took one hour to get the food. Beer is only by the botle and wine is only by the glass. Food was OK but just basic but nothing special. Pizza had no tomato base so were all bland and pretty tasteless. Deserts were not very tasty either. They start tidying up whilst you are trying to enjoy your evening which is annoying. Would probably be good for lunch or coffee. Shame but not a success at all. Maybe it will get better as they get established.
