We discovered that most restaurants in Nelson are closed on Sunday. After finding that our chosen destination fell into that category, we were walking around looking at the open choices and came across a sign on the sidewalk advertising a ‘Sunday Feed Me Menu’ at Arden. We inquired, and found that the menu was four small plates to share plus dessert, and it was chef’s choice. They asked about preferences and allergies, and then they simply bring you food. I can tell you that we had oysters, a kind of deconstructed caprese salad, courgettes with pistachios and some sort of delicate cream cheese, and braised beef cheeks, but it is very likely that the plates will be entirely different next Sunday. The beef cheeks, in particular, were superb. Highly recommended.

This was a return visit, due to previous fantastic dining experiences plus a much appreciated gift voucher. As it was our anniversary, we enjoyed a delicious cocktail to begin with, then shared smaller platters which were all delicious. Super food, super staff, super service.

Absolutely adore Arden. My partner and I turned up on a busy Saturday night, with no booking, and from the moment we opened the door we were met with nothing but professionalism and warmth. The staff quickly seated us (very kindly agreeing to move us inside as I was cold), shared fantastic and knowledgably wine recommendations, and swiftly had divine wine in our hands and the best bread and butter we've ever eaten on the table. The whole night was amazing - from the ambience, to the service, to the unfaultable wine and food (get the miso broccoli!), and everything in between. We truly can't recommend this place highly enough, and cannot wait until our next trip to Nelson to visit again.

Food was nice as was the service. The menu is designed as sharing plates of different sizes, we were recommended 2-3 each depending on dishes. Popular place so definitely book.
The kitchen ran out of 5 items on the menu and the bar ran out of one of the beers which is poor form in my book- one or two happens, but more than that feels disorganised…possibly a bad day for them

A great place for a decent glass of wine and to catch up with friends. I visited here recently for a friends function. The wine and other drinks were great. We had platters which were really good and had quite a bit of variety on them. The service was really good too. Would visit again.

This establishment looks like a wine bar. The atmosphere is good. The food is excellent. Sadly the wine list is inadequate. There was one choice of Chardonnay and that was Abel. Thin yes flinty yes, but not great overall. The service is good but when querying the wine choice the maitre d was a trifle pretentious in her defence of the lack of choice. Good food well presented but a terrible choice if wine options. Strangely, the local tap beer selection is great - wine choice - poor.

Arden is a wine bar which is why it looks like one. The exciting thing about our list is it changes so often with lots of small producers and varied wines by the glass - I’m surprised you had a second glass of wine that upset you so much.

Fine dining with superb wines' equivalent...
Our casual visit ended up in a very pleasant experience. The wines that where recommended couldn't be better with the very exquisite Mediterranean style dishes. The prices are fair. The ambience could do with a style guru, but that is absolutely minor to our supurb taste experience. My wine advice : try the 2018 Greenhough 'hope vineyard' Chardonnay.

Wonderful restaurant, awesome friendly service for a sophisticated late night meal.
We were so glad we found this place, looking for dinner as our flight had arrived late.
We were welcomed warmly and as the lovely garden area was quite busy we chose to sit and enjoy the privacy of the window seat.
Service was just the right level of attentiveness, menu and drinks options were great, with an extensive bottle wine list we would love to try another day.
We had the oysters, pate and gnocchi ( which my wife declared was the best gnocchi she had ever had and I couldn't disagree) and we finished the night with 2 wonderfully fresh desserts.
Try Ardens, you want be disappointed.

I was dining solo whilst visiting Nelson for a work trip. It was absolutely no problem though with lots of thoughtful recommendations given to me by the wonderful waitress. The space is elegant and inviting and it was warm enough to dine outside which was lovely.
I ordered the gnocchi as a main which was rich, warm and very moreish. It was the perfect size for a meal for one and the glass of bubbly was the perfect accompaniment.
I will be bringing my husband back here as I really want to try the sharing plates. Everything looks amazing and judging by the plates and other diner’s appreciation, everything is very tasty. Well worth the visit.

Top notch meal in all regards. Very creative menu, everything we had was delicious, and a fun and knowledgeable waiter. Good mostly local wine list, too. The lamb shoulder dish, with the crispy crunchy skin, is something I still think about.

Legit ran out of adjectives to describe how good everything was. Had been for drinks and the quality and service had always been flawless, but the food! Drool! The gnocchi we had to get more of...the beef cheek, the bread the everything!! Yum yum and yum

Small well set out bar/ restaurant .
We let Lisa , front of house, choose our dinner . A very good choice . Perfect well balanced meal . Tasty, interesting and plenty . The panacotta just topped it .

Popped in here last Thursday evening with two friends while in Nelson for the evening. We didn’t have a booking but staff were all welcoming and super friendly. Food was excellent and service spot on. Nice buzz and would totally recommend!
