Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really nice well presented restaurant/cafe. Ordered a coffee and couldn't resist a hot X bun since Easter was coming up. Coffee was hot - the bun was sticky and delicious. The staff were friendly and cheerful and efficient. Place is more than the run of...the mill cafe or restaurant - somewhat more upmarket and the staff are presented accordingly. Totally recommendMore

Service was amazing. Limited menu options but done well….. less is best. Good quality. Can’t fault. Stunning wine. Location not ideal as it is a fair way out of town.

Amazing meal - calamari very very tender (always one of my 'tests'). Great menu selection and also counter. Location is awesome. Great gardens. Large shop on site - and the castle if you have time.

We booked a table for lunch, having looked at the website. The service was outstanding, and the food was superb. Although we stuck to the fixed lunch menu, there were many other options available. This gave us a choice of 2 items as entrees, mains...and deserts. We covered the 6 choices between us, and all were excellent. The vegetables, herbs and fruit are grown in the restaurant’s own gardens, which are beautifully kept. Other ingredients are locally sourced. There is a good wine list. The accommodation is good, with tables in the semi-open as well as fully indoors. With drinks an excellent 3 course lunch cost NZ$200, £98. Really good value for some of the best food we have eaten in NZ.More

Having moved to the area recently, we have been busy discovering local places to eat. Visted Riverstone in December for lunch and it was amazing. Went for dinner the other night and not quite as impressed. They seem to add cheese to an awful lot...of their menu items and, being allergic (to cheese but NOT dairy) limited my choices. I had the Prosciutto and Fig starter which was very good. I'd had this with pear on my previous visit and it was outstanding. Two items of cheese needed to be left off but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the dish. My husband had the hot smoked salmon which he thought was wonderful. For main I had the Flat Iron Beef and there was just way too much meat. Potatoes were part of the dish but were pretty unnecessary. Beetroot was lovely and there was a fair bit of green veggies sprinkled all over. My husband had the chicken and found it way too oily and, again, covered in green "stuff" which was not too pleasant. The best part of the mains was actually the side of zucchini Fritti with lemon - that was just divine and worth having on its own! We left a fair bit of food on our plate and the waitress did not really question why that was the case. I'm not sure we'll go there again for dinner but lunch looks like being a better option. Oh, and one thing the restaurant cannot really do anything about is the sad spectacle of people at the next table, out for a lovely evening, spending all their time on their mobile phones!More

Had a fabulous dinner at Riverstone Kitchen, the food was beautiful and the service impeccable. The front of house staff are a credit to the restaurant, we didn't feel rushed, they ensured our drinks we always sorted and even asked if we wanted a break...between main and dessert. Well done team we will definitely be back.More

Impromptu stop on the way to Lake Tekapo. Farm to table kind of place. The food was the freshest and tastiest that I’ve had in the South Island - portions were generous too. Prices on the expensive side but well worth it. Beautiful veg and...flower gardens to view. Also a Castle which I didn’t bother viewing. A must stop if in the area.More

Our booking was on a Monday and the restaurant was quite full. We both had the salmon main which was scrumptious. Crispy skinned salmon cooked to perfection with roasted hazelnuts a great garnish. We shared 2 side dishes which were generous in size-the shaved cabbage...salad & roast pumpkin with buffalo curd & shaved fennel, both delicious. Our desserts were the blackcurrant souffle-outstanding, and steamed chocolate pudding-light & yummy. Another great meal from Riverstone Kitchen and we will be back!More
