Having eaten at the fabulous Black Bear a few nights earlier our expectations for our breakfast at EAT at Dan and Steph’s were high. We loved the fit out and atmosphere. We had had friends dine on the menu a few weeks ago and they had complained of some average meals but this wasn’t our experience. We appreciated that the menu had options that are simply much more creative than a lot of their local competitors. One of our small people loved the kids pancakes with crazy ice cream. We really enjoyed the Cuban and while the corn fritters weren’t perfect (too cake like) they were solid. Unfortunately the service was well below average. I feel awful even writing this but I notice it’s a common theme on their reviews. I know the new venture must be thrilling (and the service there is well above average) but if you want repeat customers to your original restaurant you must sort the service out. We were not offered to order drinks after we sat down. So then had to actively seek out someone to take both our order and our drinks order. Food arrived and we still had no cutlery even though we had asked for serviettes when we ordered at which time the staff had plenty of opportunity to see we had no cutlery. We were not asked once how our meal was or asked if we wanted another drink. We had to ask for table water half way through the meal and no one looked like clearing our plates or asking re the bill. I went to the register to ask but wasn’t even offered a copy of the bill to check it was correct. The price just was rung up onto screen by person we assumed was manager. Despite being fully booked the restaurant wasn’t full so were plenty of staff around they just seemed disorganised and lacking leadership on sections and customer service. The food is above average but don’t forget service is essential for repeat customers.

Casual and comfortable. We visited for breakfast and were seated straight away. Try and not take the seat right next to the servery because they turn on the bright heat light every time a meal is ready to be served, and it is bright. The staff were great, the food was good and plentiful and tasty. Cost was what we expected and on par with other cafe style places we have visited in tourist locations. Right across the road from the beach and parking was easy. We visited on a Monday morning, all tables were occupied and there was a steady take away service happening.

Food was good, a bit more varied than most and very tasty. Good vegetarian selection and an interesting menu. My only (minor) issue is that the Bay is full of comparable good food and this restaurant runs a couple of dollars dearer per dish than average.

I had the avocado smash and pesto scramble (no you can't have them separate. It's one dish) and a coffee. I was one of only three tables with customers. After 5 minutes of waiting my table was cleared but never wiped. The waitress was doing well but she can't have been older than 15 and you can really tell the difference in customer service. The music playlist was a Frankenstein mix of country followed by pop which made for a strange ambience, which was not at all helped by the huge TV in the middle of the cafe showing channel 7 with no sound. The food itself just seemed very mismatched (as did the description of many dishes on the menu) with it's gimmicky black charcoal sourdough and its lumping in of an avo smash with a scramble together into one dish. I also thought for what was essentially an open faced sandwich with one piece of bread, the price was too high. I found this seeming to be the case with many dishes as I looked at the prices on the menu. The coffee was good.

Staff not the nicest. We spent over $150 on lunch, only to have our bacon burnt, our poached eggs were hard boiled and when I mentioned it to staff was told "well maybe next time they will be good" in San and steps book which we also brought for $40 it stats they cook 400 meals a day yet they weren't even on site the whole time we were there. Have waited years to eat here and can honestly say we won't be back.

Made a reservation online but it didn’t even matter as they don’t set tables aside for reservations anyway. When we arrived we were ignored and weren’t greeted by any of the staff and just sat at a random table hoping it was okay. After waiting for a while we had to make a big effort to get the attention of the waitress to order. The staff were of a young age and lacked friendly customer service skills. Despite this, the food came out quickly and presentation was instagram worthy. There is a good selection of vegetarian dishes and the food we had was tasty. Would recommend Eat at Dan and Steph’s for the food but the service definitely needs improving.

Was very much looking forward to going to Dan and Stephs place when on Holiday in Hervey Bay, however came away pretty disappointed. We turned up 5 minutes early for our brekkie reservation, were not greeted in any way but were ignored and had to try very hard to get anyone’s attention. We then discovered that our table had been given away. Another table was cleared for us so that was fine. 25 minutes later we had to make a big effort for someone just to take our order...The staff were unfriendly and abrupt, no one seemed to be in charge and it was all very haphazard. Staff were all school aged and working very hard but seemingly with little training or direction. Not their fault- very poorly managed! Food came out quickly but our drinks didn’t arrive until were were finished eating. Again when we wanted to pay were then ignored and had to wait several minutes to be acknowledged. The food was excellent, a varied and interesting menu. Delicious. However we still left the restaurant with a bad taste in our mouths.

After a Friday and Saturday when it poured most of the time, it was fabulous to see the sun and blue sky on the Sunday (just as we were heading home). We decided to have a quick brunch here before heading down the highway. My cappuccino (Tim Adams Specialty Coffee) was really good. I am very particular about my coffee, and this was strong and flavoursome. I even bought a takeaway cuppa for the journey home. I ate the Danny Benny with bacon, while hubby had the corn fritters with halloumi. I’ve said it many times and I have to say it again: a pancake is not a fritter! Hubby said this was definitely a pancake with corn, not a fritter which should be the veg. with a bit of flour to bind. Sorry, a pet peeve of mine. I had the taste of the smoky bacon in my mouth all day; I say this as a good thing! It was beautifully smoky and full of flavour. I loved it. My meal came with cheese croquettes and poached eggs. The eggs were runny just the way I like ‘em, but the croquettes were a wee bit bland and unseasoned. Hubby’s fritters came with poached eggs and halloumi, which went down well. The food was fresh and flavoursome, the coffee was fabulous (hubby had a long black, also fabulous), but the service was - hmm – lacking, shall we say? Oddly, even though we had booked and it was confirmed again that morning, they hadn’t set a table for us. We were pointed to a table where another customer was sitting awaiting his takeaway coffee. He took off, the table wasn’t wiped down, and we sat there sans cutlery, napkins or salt and pepper. None of which ever arrived: a chap at the next table asked a waitress for cutlery for us, which was dumped on our table in a small tin bucket; still no napkins or anything else. (And it wasn’t busy.) Apart from that rather unsatisfactory beginning, we had a really tasty meal. I would like to try it again next time we're up that way, especially when Covid is over and the full menu is back in force.

What a Let Down. After watching Dan & Steph on MKR over a couple of seasons, my wife and I were looking forward to having breakfast at EAT this morning. To say we were both disappointed is understating it a bit much. It was bloody horrible actually. I really enjoy a good corned beef hash for breaky and when I saw it on the menu I went yum, that’s for me. Well their version of it would make a garbage bin’s mouth turn up in surprise. To see a bowl, filled with potato gems, onion and pickles (up to 1/2 cm thick) all smothered in hollandaise sauce with a fried egg on top covering the smallest portion of corned beef you have ever seen was a let down. A tablespoon of corned beef in a big bowl of ingredients does not entitle you to call the dish corned beef hash. When i tried to eat it, the sourness from the shear quantity of the pickles was fighting with heavy handedness of the cook (not chef) who applied the hollandaise sauce. It was a dreadful experience trying to eat it and I left over half in the bowl. Now i give most meals a fair crack and after 21 years full time service in the military you have to if you want to get fed sometimes. I used that same philosophy here but just could not stomach it after a while. I even asked for my fried egg to have the yolk broken and the egg flipped to be fully cooked, but it didn’t happen. So either the waitress didn’t pass that on, or the cook can’t read. I would love to go back to try Dan’s sausages which is what he is known for, but after this experience, I’m not to sure. My wife had poached eggs and bacon which is hard to stuff up, but she was not impressed with a simple dish like that. Even the sourdough toast that accompanied the meal was just toast without the traditional sourdough taste. Some changes need to be made for this restaurant to be considered good or even worthy of a second chance.

We did not realise we were eating at the cafe of Dan & Steph from MKR - we decided to go based on reviews we had read. The service was very friendly and welcoming from the moment we entered the door. The menu is not extensive which means what is on offer is done very well. The food was absolutely delicious and had some lovely little differences they made it stand out. A lovely young waitress was very happy to give us some ideas and tips re places to visit locally. Dan & Steph were in the cafe and made a point of saying hello to us and guests as they went about their morning. We happily recommend the cafe and when in Hervey Bay again will return for another feed.

Hubby and I travelled from NSW , whilst here decided on having breakfast here . Staff are not very friendly , coffee was bad , Food was not much better . Hubby had the corned beef and potato gems , corned beef was awesome but not enough and the potato gems were oily and way too many for the amount of beef . I had the Dan's Benny, when it arrived it looked fantastic on the plate , but not very tasty , it lacked flavour. We don't mind paying a high price for good food , but the food needs to match the price.

If you’re looking for reasonably priced delicious food at Hervey Bay, try Eat at Dan and Steph’s. We ordered Danny’s Benny and the Cuban Sandwich, both of which were amazing! The setting is casual with indoor and outdoor seating. We were a little disappointed with the service though.

visited a couple of times as wanted to give them another chance. Sadly same girl served us or should I say ignored us. Once we did get served the food was good however she took 3 attempts at bringing the wrong food over to us. A real shame as a great position and the food once the girl got our order right was very nice.

Nice juice and lemonade to start. Hubby ordered the Cuban sandwich which he said was delicious but he could only eat half as it was huge, but nothing gets wasted and he had the other half for dinner that night. I ordered the Salt n Pepper Calamari Tacos which were just sooo yummy, I ate them all lol 😂 I will go back next time in the area 👍
