We bought kumara chips and a kg of mussels from here - very close to closing time. The shop keeper was very helpful and patient, and steamed the mussels for us for an extra $4 and gave us plenty of lemon slices. Was a delicious and reasonably priced dinner. The next day we went back and got paua fritters - delicious! Highly recommend!

Served by two gentle men the menu was more expensive than elsewhere but the food well cooked and in generous servings, thanks. Two scoops of chips was too much for two persons. The fish came in two good pieces and and lovely. Large sausage.

The atmosphere of this place was relaxing and we had such a lovely time chatting with Sharon (the owner). She was working by herself and we had an order for 10 people but she managed to deliver the food without any delays, while always having a smile on her face. Great food, lovely host - what's not to like!! Thanks Sharon !

WE were nearing the end of our fabulous south island holiday & wanted some crayfish it was 5,3oish & most of the seafood venues were closed we were looking for Nins Bins but assumed it may have closed&no longer in business spotted cod&cray so inquired re cray first of all the lady told us $70 dollars I looked at the crays in tank and thought OMG so small.... desperate to eat cray she cooked one for us, Firstly it was much more chewier than I recall cray I said to my partner is it even cooked enough& secondly there was no taste or flavor whatsoever& then we were charged $85 bloody dollars. Will never ever buy crayfish in Kaikoura again& same goes for some friend of ours who had same experience at Cod&Cray. Ownersa of cod&cray should be well ashamed of themselves .Exhibits greed& a total lack of pride in their business. Lorna Hendry&John Madden .

We used to call on here on a regular basis but after two really bad meals we will be going Elsewhere. Talked to the owner about the bad meals and he wasn’t a bit interested. Chips were over cooked. Whitebait patty was like rubber.

Stopped for lunch on our way to Christchurch, ordered 1/2 dozen battered mussels, 3 x scallops , 3 x cod with minimum chips and 2 x cans of lemonade. All up just over $50 so price wise a little on the high side for takeaways but happy to spend on fresh fare that's well cooked which this was. Set us up well for the rest of our trip, would definitely stop in again if passing through

2 pieces of blue cod, 6 bluff oysters, 2 Paula patties $63. Price is fine but quality of product average, cod was small, oysters were obviously B grade, and all undercooked. Won’t go there again. Two young girls cooking

This review is for CODS N CRAY ON WHEEL. I had the blue cod with chips and my friend had their lunch set menu, chips, fish, sausage and a drink for $12! It was so good. Yummy, cooked to perfection and not greasy. The lady was working on her own and got the orders out really quickly. She also acknowledged all the customers as she made orders. Very impressed!

We went to both Cods and Crayfish and also Cooper's Catch during our stay in Kaikoura. Our family much preferred Cods and Crayfish. The fish was super fresh, everything was cooked crispy, piping hot and not greasy at all. Complimentary lemon slices in the package, and free sauces/vinegar at the shop were very welcome touches. The owners provided fast, friendly service and were very accommodating in making us a couple of real fruit ice creams on a rainy, cold Kaikoura night!

Travelling from Christchurch to Hapuku Tree Lodges (amazing) we planned our trip to have a lunch at Cods and Crays. We ordered two pieces of blue cod and chips. Fresher you wouldn’t find and cooked to perfection. Fish flaked apart and chips were really crispy. Service good and nice touches were free sauces to take to the picnic tables when enjoying you beautiful fresh fish. Thoroughly recommended. Picking up a live cray on the way back to ChCh to cook crayfish thermidore. Cooked crays looked inviting.

We Always do blue cod and cray in the kaikoura but not here. Read the boards outside and the prices were very reasonable and we decided on the crayfish platter. It was very smelly when we went in - not nice seafood smelly, dirty neglected smelly. The live cray tank was dirty, they were very small and the cray were very pale, Kept in very bad conditions. Crossed the road for the blue cod, good decision.

After a day of whale watching and birdwatching, decide to forgo restaurant fare for one night and instead just be terribly British and eat fish n'chips out of the wrapper whilst staring out over the ocean. Wonderful! Lovely fresh fish, and chips cooked to perfection. Portions just about right, and very fair prices. N.B: this isn't really a restaurant - take-away meals with a few tables outside. But don't let that put you off.....

We had blue cod and paua patties to takeaway. The paua patties/fritters were freshly homemade and were the best I’ve ever had. The blue cod was good to. We got a huge fillet each. The batter was just right. Not too thick. The chips are thick cut and one scoop was perfect for two of us. Would recommend.

Wanted fish and chips on beach. These were nice thick non crusty chips and the blue cod nicely battered. Best I’ve had in ages. Not as greasy as other places. You can try Kaikoura speciality - crayfish which can be sold fresh or cooked. They were in a tank. (Beware the seagulls at the beach!)

Very friendly and great food. We had blue cod and butter fish, fish and chips along with batter fried squid. The batter was so lite you could actually taste the fish. Best fish and chips ever. The owners are extremely friendly.
