Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent food - I had the "catch of the day" which as well as a delicious fish had fabulous roast vegetables. I was unsure what beer to have and the barperson offered me to try the APA which was great. A place run by people...who care and as a consequence has much better atmosphere than some other places in Kaikoura. We enjoyed eating and drinking in the very pleasant sheltered beer garden out the back. Highly recommended.More

Giving this a 5/5 because of service behind the bar by Jenna. She was so lovely, accomodating and friendly. Food was good. Bar full with a nice atmosphere.

Ate here one evening in Oct 2023. Staff were very good, friendly and service was quick. Beer and wine were both great. Interior is quirky with lots to look at which I like. Food was excellent. Fish and chips were superb. If you are looking...to eat somewhere in Kaikoura, you'd do well to give the Strawberry Tree a go.More

Excellent food with fantastic customer service. While the menu looked average the food was outstanding!! The staff were super friendly and professional. Loved sitting in the garden in the afternoon sunshine. Definitely worth visiting and we will be back!

Described as ‘Roast of the Day’. This was inedible. Great lumps of brisket. Roast vegetables ( 1 small potato, minute piece of pumpkin) raw piece of carrot, nearly raw broccoli and cauliflower, piece of kale. Very spicy gravy. God it was awful and overpriced at...$35.More

Great wee spot and the food was delicious. Our waitress was the Maori lady.. she was absolutely fabulous and had such a bubbly personality. Receiving that kind of service was refreshing and we will definitely be back the next time we come through Kaikoura

We went to Strawberry Tree as part of the Kaikoura Hop and were really impressed with how well they managed a full house. The staff were lovely and so helpful. Our food was delicious and came out in a very reasonable time given how busy...they were at the time.More

Gorgeous little pub. Got the fish and chips (beer battered), and they are some of the best fish and chips and i’ve ever had, the perfect amount of batter and perfectly cooked fish, with some yum chips and nice garden salad. Wonderful wonderful homemade tartare...sauce. Reasonably priced as well (seems almost too good to be true). The place has a good amount of beers on tap, with some locals which really hit the spot. Also guinness for you guinness lovers. Lastly, staff were so awesome, being genuine with their customers, as it seemed everyone that walked in was treated with the same down to earth, welcoming attitude. Highly highly recommend this spot, perfect after a day exploring the wonderful town that is Kaikoura, or if just passing through.More

Awesome staff, very helpful. Let us try local brews and their recommendations were amazing. The food was great, loved the wedges! Ambiance was great too. The warm fireplace and great decoration made our experience memorable. Will be sure to stop by when in Kaikoura.

We booked the night before for 9 people asking on phone if they done crayfish as we wanted to eat crayfish with this in mind they didn't have any flounder, only had 1 chicken salad available and only half a crayfish left for $116 crazy...considering our booking was at 5.30pm 1 of us purchased the crayfish asking for the garlic butter to not go on the crayfish but on the side as not to be over powered with garlic flavor which didn't happen it was smothered in the butter. The cray meat was muchy and had no substance to it with the cost $116 A totally waste of money. Another person only ordered a entree and asked for a dessert only to be told they can't order that yet so they then didn't bother ordering at all so they missed out on the sale. The pork ribs were a hit though and the roast brisket was ok. The waitress was nice and apologized. Seemed pretty unorganized to have no food so early in the night. I suggest you stear clear of this place there is alot more restaurants in Kiakora 100% better than hereMore

We stop by here for lunch today. The big heavy doors were closed but pull them and walk through. Plenty of space inside, alcohol is served and there is a sitting area at the back too. Wanted to try the paua burger, so decided to...go half with my daughter. She chose the beef brisket burger. Both burgers were accompanied by potato wedges and tomato sauce. The paua burger was a bit bland but least I’ve tried it. But by comparison, my daughter’s beef brisket burger was absolutely delicious, outstanding! We had an alcoholic cider, service was quick, not a long wait. Would return again just for the beef brisket burger.More

One of many restaurants located near the main road going through the small town. They have excellent food and a great selection of drinks. It's a bit more noisy. There is a small seating area outside. We liked their interior and Irish-pub style.
