We stayed overnight In Kaikoura, to take in a whale watching tour. We came and had dinner at Strawberry Tree Restaurant so enjoyed our experience, we returned for lunch next day.The seafood Chowder, was so delicious, served with 2 pieces of Garlic bread, we found...this to be great value, both money wise, and taste wise. Wonderful friendly staff, attentive, and overall a most enjoyable dining experience.More

We were recommended to go for dinner and were convinced by the HAPPY Hour Monday to Friday 4.30 to 6pm. When asking for our happy hour drinks we were told that it didn't apply any more. When it was pointed out that it was advertised...on their web site we were told "it hasn't been updated". Not good enoughMore

Visited twice on our two day stay in Kaikōura, all meals were very enjoyable. First day we had crayfish & seafood chowder. Cray was on the smaller side but delicious - best cray I had over our short stay. Chowder was the best my husband...had on our two week holiday. Second visit we did burgers (a chicken & a vege) both were great. The chicken was tender & flavoursome, I don't often order a chicken burger when out but this was the best chicken burger I've had!More

What a great atmosphere!! We had such a fun night. Yummy cocktails, the staff are WICKED, and they have a courtesy coach. We got picked up and dropped home. Great live music!

Nice to see local beers (Emporium Brewery) on tap. Delicious burger (BBQ jackfruit) and wedges. Interesting decor and friendly staff. Toilet set up was weird - the male toilet (wall urinal) was quite exposed which I imagine could be a bit confronting!

Well what a journey and experience.. We went in for dinner at 7pm, sat down and seen quite afew people sitting at the tables looking far from happy. We ordered an entree which came out at 8pm, the mussels were cold and the scallops were...stuck together in a battered mess, still the tables around us were looking less and less enthused about the current situation waiting on there main meals. We decided to abandon ship at 8:30 and asked if we could cancel the mains if they haven’t already started.. the mains hadn’t been started and we luckily got out of there. As we left we took one final look around and seen most of the customers looking mildly confused and malnourished about the situation. The outfit needs more staff, a decent chef and a supply of firewood as it was like sitting on a chair lift at rainbow ski field.More

Our fav place was booked out so .......... Friendly obliging service , great fries and salad but I believe, and I'll stand correcting, the seared crayfish had been frozen. My mistake for not asking.

We stopped for lunch passing through. We were all really happy with our meals. Beautiful atmosphere in the garden with a great band playing. We will definitely be going here the next time we’re in Kaikoura. The Crayfish is a must👍
