Black Rabbit Pizza is a small, family owned artisan pizza restaurant located in Kaikoura, NZ. We are fully licensed, serving some of NZ's finest craft beer and wines. Enjoy our dine-in experience and enjoy our unique funky restaurant, plus we also have outdoor tables with umbrellas to enjoy Kaikoura at its best. And Yes! We do offer gluten free, Vegetarian and Vegan pizza options! All of our food is prepared fresh on a daily basis. Much of our ingredients are sourced locally, which is not only optimal for greater nutritional value (fresher is better) but it helps support local business too. When it comes to nutritional value, we also specialize in wild meats and of course fish caught within our local waters. We had been told by a friend to come try the burgers(as we are big burger fans). Looking at the menu the pizzas felt like a really appealing option so we share a burger for starter and pizzas for main. Cheese burger was around 9 dollars. Good, genuine, honest burger. Homemade pattie was excellent, tasty, fresh, buns were good and toasted a little bit added a bit of crunchiness, loaded with nice fresh salad and cheese. If you like good honest burgers you will love it. Pizzas arrived: farmhouse is chiken, bacon, mushrooms plus sauce. Excellent pizza. Every ingredient felt fresh and well cooked, very generous on the topping. They use real streaky bacon!! Not the cheap knockoff hamlike other places use. 22 dollars. Unbeatable value for money. The seafood pizza was also great 26 dollars and tasted delicious. Also order dessert pizza: cookie dough caramel cheesecake. Great to watch a good movie. We loved it, and we came back tje next day for more. We order the farmhouse again and trust me, is worth coming back for it. We also had the smoked salmon pizza which was great but not as good as my new favourite ever pizza: the gone hunting! Featuring venison, pulled pork and chorizo, mushrooms and a todiefor blue cheese sauce, mother of all pizzas! Both 26 dollars. Once again unbeatable value for money. Happy happy happy. We are driving the 3:30 hours to Kaikoura in the near future for more goodness.

Friendly service when we ordered our takeaway pizza which was the deluxe pizza and a cheesy garlic bread. Service was about a 30 minute wait and it wasn't that busy but the food came out hot and fresh. The base was lovely on the pizza - thin and crispy. As a whole, the pizza itself was tasty. We didn't enjoy the rocket sauce which was a weird quite of sweet flavour with some spice - far too much of the sauce and unnecessary. I do hate drizzles on pizzas though. When wiped off it was much better. The garlic bread could have done without the cheese overdose. Eating alongside a pizza laden with cheese was just too much. Nice little spot. Would go again. These opinions are our personal taste - there is nothing wrong with the food.

Six of us went to Black Rabbit on a Friday night in Kaikoura. I ordered the Hot and Spicy Lamb pizza and OH MY GOD . . . . it was as if the pizza chef crawled into my brain and figured out the precise type of pizza that I like. It was incredible. A perfectly thin (but not too thin) and doughy crust with a huge chunks of lamb, loads of jalapenos and capsicum, and plenty of stretchy cheese. My wife got the black rabbit special - cream cheese and rabbit with the most amazing cranberry sauce. The kitchen also prepared bespoke pizzas for two very picky children and everyone was happy! Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had - and I've been to NYC! It really is that good - a must try in Kaikoura.

I tried my first lamb pizza here and it was delicious. Our food was brought out fresh and hot and the staff were very friendly and ensured that we were completely satisfied with our meal. I would recommend treating yourself to the cheesy herb and garlic bread also.

So my fiancé and I decided to grab some pizza while the rest of the tour group went for Indian (we aren’t fans). This was next door to the place they went and oh my goodness! The flavors melted in your mouth! I got the hot chili pizza and my fiancé got the Italiano pizza. Both were unbelievably amazing. We’ve never had anything like this back home, it’s the right amount of crunchiness in the crust, the right combo of ingredients, and something you won’t forget. The setting of the restaurant was simple and modern. We each had a beer with our pizzas and they were iced cold delicious.

The service was great. Pizzas were yummy as pizza bases were crispy and topping were much more than normal.. Very good value.
The working hours information was correct on either facebook page or google map.
The only thing I did not like was the jam/sauce on topping which was just my preference. I thought it was a bit too sweet to me but my partner he loved it.
Wild rabbit meat was a bit overcooked.

Staffs there are very nice and friendly. The environment is comfortable and relaxing! Very appreciate the free cool water provided and the disinfection of table by alcohol before I sit down. The pizzas are not expensive! I ordered the deluxe pizza, really very yummy and the sweet sauce on the pizza perfectly matched with the ingredients.

Staying in Kaikoura overnight as part of our little road trip holiday, and came across this lovely little restaurant when typing in “Kaikoura vegan” into Google. Thought it was worth popping in to see what they offered, and were very pleasantly surprised to be told by the polite and friendly gentleman serving us that they can pretty much do whatever pizza you want with vegan cheese! My partner and I both had “The Veg” made vegan, and both thoroughly enjoyed! The kumara fries were delightful too. Highly recommend if looking for a yummy vegan option on your travels through this side of the country!

You know you will get an amazing meal when you get in to the house of someone very foodie.
The atmosphere, friendly service and the people running around in the kitchen without talking but know exactly what everyone is doing.
Very reasonable and mostly very delicious.

Very interesting restaurant and takeaway business. Our pizzas were very good, with options on size, not always available in other pizza joints.
Service was friendly and efficient, although takeaway traffic obviously impacts on speed of table service. My request for chilli flakes was easily fulfilled. Overall very good experience. Beer selection ditto.
We'd go again next time.

We got a takeaway that we waited in for and overall really disappointed with our experience. We waited a very long time - well over half an hour (when we had been told 20mins) and we saw other people dining in sat down and received their pizza before us. We felt like they didn’t care about their takeaway customers and that our order had been forgotten or neglected. When it finally arrived, the pizza was small and we felt needed more cooking, it didn’t have the golden brown slightly crispy top you want on a pizza. The Greek salad was the worst though, we paid $15 for what can only be described as a poor side salad which was mostly lettuce. If we were staying in the area I would have gone back and complained/asked for a refund. Overall, they seemed to treat their diners better than their takeaway but we still wouldn’t come back.

Pizza is pricy but very tasty. They need more employees and ones that care. We didn’t even get water to drink until we were half way finished with our pizza (and 3 separate requests) and our cocktails never came out. When we were finished eating and boxed up our leftovers I requested a refund for the cocktails that never came out after 45 minutes, to which I was told they were making them…

We ate here on a Saturday night as the reviews were good and the menu sounded interesting and unconventional-which it is. Despite having booked, because they were so busy with in-house diners (but especially takeaways) we had to wait for a table to be cleared and it took about 35 minutes for me to get a drink, although my partner got his in minutes. There were only two staff on the floor, basically one waitressing and one on the bar/cashiering and managing takeaways. It was a busy Saturday and they clearly needed a third staff member to make things run more smoothly.
It took quite a while to get our pizzas which were pretty good although a little soggy on the base. I think with more staff or on a less busy night this would be be really good. All the makings are there for a great dining experience. Unfortunately on the night we were there the number of takeaways affected the dining experience.
A big negative which could easily be remedied is the use of a horrible, strong smelling disinfectant used to sanitise the tables between customers. All I could smell was dettol and it was totally overpowering and not what I want to smell in a pizza restaurant. Please consider using a rosemary or citrus-based disinfectant.

We arrived late night, about 9.30pm when most places were already closed and they were super friendly and welcoming. Food was really good and I was pleased to learn they offer vegan cheese. Highly recommended :)

We decided to try this pizza place which was close to our motel. We really enjoyed our pizzas washed down with a good value bottle of wine. Friendly staff and nicely spaced out clean tables made this a very pleasant dining experience.
