We were so impressed with Zephyr restaurant right from the time of our booking. The staff were lovely and we served by the owner who was very friendly and welcoming. The meal was divine. I had pork belly and the Asian flavour was great, it...come with vegetables which were lovely and a generous amount. Would I got back? In a heart beat, just wish we were staying in Kaikoura another night.More

Nice atmosphere and very good food. Hubby had the pork and I had the duck. Both meals were delicious and a good size. This restaurant was recommended by a friend - would definitely recommend to others if you want fine dining.

So in my normal fashion, I will start with the negatives and finish with the positives. Booked over the phone and arrived right in time. Went up to counter/Bar. First Lady ignored me and the next lady welcomed us and showed us to our seat....The decor is.....very sparse. A few pictures on the wall, some hanging bare lamps and a stage head over the bar. That’s it. Menu is in a clip board and a very good selection but the wine list was a laminated A4. Why not do another sheet and attach it to the clipboard like normal restaurants? We ordered Aperol Spritzs but these were flat with very little ice. As there was no Prosecco on the wine list, I am not sure what so called sparking wine they used. We sat with our menus for about 15mins before they took our order. We finished our first drinks but had to go to the bar to get another. Staff worked past 32 times and didn’t notice they were empty. We finished our mains and as there was no offer of desert after the mains plates had been cleared, we left. Now the positive. The food. Simply amazing!! Could not fault it at all. The salmon, pâté, pork belly and lamp were awesome, well done. Unfortunately, things would need to improve on the service side before we came back. And put up a chandelier or something to create some atmosphere. Oh, and please put the spare chairs out the back, not stacked in the restaurant.More

My partner had the pork belly and he said it would be the best pork belly he’s ever had, and he’s had a fair few!!! I had the ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection which for me is medium rare. The service was great...and the food outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant. World class quality in little old Kaikoura.More

Nicely decorated with and elegant, relaxed vibe. Staff were attentive and professional. We only had a main course, but what we had was beautifully cooked and presented. My husband had the duck and thoroughly enjoyed it - his vegetable side was also delicious. I had...the chicken which was moist and also delicious. I would certainly go back next time we visit Kaikoura.More

One of the more up market dining choices in Kaikoura the restaurant is popular and suggest a booking is essential specifically on the weekend. We found the decor a little sterile and the wine list limited, that said the food and service were good.

I had booked a table about four weeks before we left for a two week campervan holiday of the North Island. We had been recommended this restaurant by two different sets of friends. Walked into a very minimally decorated restaurant that had a very welcoming...atmosphere about it. Very attentive staff but not intrusive. Poured water took orders. Received drinks while we chatted. Entrees arrived and we were certainly not disappointed. Salmon Gravalax and Chicken Parfait both gorgeous. Mains ordered were Lamb rump with caponata and fish of the day-Snapper in a lemon wine and cream sauce. We also ordered a side of vegetables each. There were no less than nine perfectly cooked vegetables in each bowl and drizzled with a creamy moreish aioli. We had to try a dessert as we had been so impressed by the first two courses and again we were not disappointed. If you want to try this one I would say to ring and book to avoid disappointment.More

Excellent meal, we thoroughly enjoyed all 3 courses. We could not find fault with either the food or service.

Great wee spot ,pricey but met the value you expect for this style of joint No problem. Service was a little lazy but sure they’ll pick up their game. Food was fantastic.
