We called in around 5.00 pm to enquire if we could dine there as non-members. A lady greeted us warmly and advised we were welcome and the restaurant would open at 5.30 pm. We returned later after having walked the lovely beach. The service and food were excellent. It is not fine dining but good honest and enjoyable homemade food. Portion sizes were generous, so much so that we were unable to fit in a dessert. Prices were very reasonable. The club dining area filled with locals very quickly but we were not made to feel that we had to eat up and go. Good selection of craft beers. Highly recommended.

We (three pensioners) recently spent a bit more than a week in Hokitika - ducking in and out of the back country for tramping jaunts. While there are quite a few places to eat in this cute little town, the queues were long and many of the eateries do not take reservations.
After some Internet research we found out about this local club restaurant, which offers not only outstanding food and drinks but also represents very good value for money. Admittedly the wine range is quite limited, but who cares if the menu is extensive, the food tastes very yummil and the staff is very friendly. We ended up at the Quayside for three nights and quality did never falter. Their chips are to die for, there is a large selection of vegetables on offer, and the salad dressing is really nice. Average waiting time for the food to arrive was maybe ten minutes - served to your table by friendly waitresses. Drinks are ordered at the bar and are run on a different tab from the food side. I can recommend the Kopiko Pinot Gris :-)

Nailed Corn, bacon and potato chowder, beautifuly balanced. Thai inspired spicy mussels fresh and tasty, 1 kg of them. Ribeye meal, cooked to perfection with perfectly matched salad and potato gratin, and the kids had chicken and beef burgers with chips, so loaded, they took half of the burgers home to heat up for later. Amazing meals. Great prices. Great stuff!

The food here is great value. Thursday is souvlaki night - highly recommended (go for the greek chicken)! A proper locals place and even if you're not a "member" you are still welcome to eat and drink here (drinks are well priced too, even for non-members). Service is friendly and very accomodating of special requests. Desserts are also great value (love the sticky date pudding). Tuesday is quiz night for a fun night out.

Walking in the theme had a nice rustic feel the table had a message in a bottle with a newspaper form the 1800's which was from the Hokitika printing press. For starters we had garlic bread and potato pom pom's which were decently sized and beautifully presented. for main I had the pie with a side of mash and peas the mash was very creamy the pies pastry was a nice golden brown with a generous amount of steak filling. The gravy was nice and smooth with no lumps. for dessert I had the brownie which was delicious. staff were awesome and very attentive.
10/10 would recommend to friend

Great local venue filled with local people having a good time and great freshly cooked fish and chips and chicken schnitzel. Great happy atmosphere. Wine selection maybe should branch out to include some New Zealand wines but maybe it is only the tourists that want them?!!

Upon searching for somewhere to go for hubbys birthday dinner a Google search took us to quayside restaurant. We weren't originally sure if we could go as it appeared online like a workingman's type club but a quick phone call to check if we could come to dinner meant we were welcomed no worries at all. We arrived and the atmosphere was lovely. There were toys for the kids, a board with yummy and decent specials and a cavery operating plus the main menu. There was so much to choose from it was hard to decide what to order. If only we were there another night to come back to try more. The food was served quickly and was absaloutely delish. Good value, good service, good vibe all good all round. Highly recommend and next time we are on the coast we will certainly be back!

We called ahead at five and made a reservation for five thirty which is the opening time. We had beers, fish and chips with salad and my husband had the mussels. Everything was delicious with friendly low key service. A good experience.

We had a very good dinner here. We were lucky to be there on Thursday for souvlaki night. It was good value. I liked that it wasn't touristy and there were heaps of locals there. Make sure you don't go late as they said they sometimes close the kitchen early if it's quiet.

This place is great any night of the week, but if you're lucky enough to be here on a Thursday, you won't find anything better in Hokitika than a Charter Club Souvlaki! Ask any local, no one will give this place a bad review. Great portions, amazing price, friendly staff and desserts to die for! Quayside is my recommendation to anyone staying in Hokitika.

Hidden gem of Hokitika dining. Fabulous food. Shared the ribs and mussels and both were absolutely delicious. Potato gratin with the ribs was soooo good and crunchy. Sticky date pudding was the best I’ve ever had. Service was amazing and staff so friendly. What a great restaurant and club. Loved it.I’ll be back for sure.

My new favourite place to take my family to eat and the bar tender Joy Ann is so great. Helped us with high chair and has good chat. My favourite was the baked fish with creamy sauce. My partner got the fried fish and he said it was the best he’s had on the coast. Waitress was so friendly. We will definitely be back.. lots

On a rainy Tuesday night we went to club with friends. We were a group of 12 and had booked the day before. Wonderful staff who made us very welcome. As it was quiz night she recommended us ordering early as it would be busy. We took her advice. Surf and turf for husband I had the Orange Roughy. Wow huge meals and were delicious. Then we shared the caramel baileys cheesecake it was certainly big enough to share.
Highly recommend visiting this Club and restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic! I had the beef burger hubby had the fish and chips and we shared the mussels! We over committed but it was a flavour adventure for sure! And because we didn't punish ourselves enough we took home a piece of biscoff cheesecake! Very very busy and yes there was a wait but it was worth it 10/10 well done guys! You need to advertise to the tourist, this shouldn't be a locals secret.

Was recommended by a friend who knows I am a fussy diner. If I’m eating out, I want it to be an experience…..well…that being said….Food was absolutely amazing!!!! I will certainly be coming here every time I visit Hokitika. Delicious!
