Tasty meals at a reasonable price

The Australasian bar and grill is renowned for its lunchtime specials. A decent range of dishes at reasonable prices and all get advisable to the palate. The decor is clean cut and simple but not sparse and the staff are friendly and obliging. Well worth a visit.

Good pub food.

Nice spot on a cold, wet night. Good parking available. Restaurant service was good and we were informed of the special early. Both ordered the chicken schnitzel and it was very good. Cooked well and meat was tender. It was served with a choice of sauces and we selected the garlic butter. Very good. Reasonable price too and a pleasant experience.

Visited here for dinner. Warm, friendly welcome by staff. Bustling with locals and travellers. Good food. Comfortable surroundings. Service great. Friday night is a good night to go. They have a lucky ticket draw and delicious hot pork sandwiches

My daughter and I came here for lunch one day, and were so impressed that we kept returning again and again. We brought the kids here one night for dinner, and another day for lunch, all in quick succession. This was in the week or so after lockdown conditions were eased, and we felt like something special - boy did we choose right. They had highchairs for the toddlers - one was missing a cover because the cover had been removed after previous use and put in with laundry. This told us that they took hygiene seriously, and did the "antiseptic" smell. Kids were provided coloured pencil and book packs to use, and take away. Kids (3 y/old's) were served fish pieces and nuggets with chips, washed down with a very red/orange/green drink which put a smile on their faces, until they stirred with a straw, and then turned into a muddy colour. My daughter, son in law and I all had steaks with salad, mine was steak dianne. Desserts were supplied to the kids free of charge - a treat they rarely receive. Wait staff were VERY attentive, service was as expected, with kids meals arriving first to help shut them up. Simply cannot fault their attention to detail, and would thoroughly recommend this place to anybody who respects these traits. A huge thumbs up from me, and this will become a routine stop for me whenever I am on the coast. Just a shame that our Commandant has us in lockdown, and has no idea about how the wheels of progress turn.

After waiting 50 minutes for our food we asked if it was far away and we were told 20 more minutes and offered complimentary bread. After having the bread and waiting a further 25 minutes still no sign of our meals and people that had ordered after us were receiving meals and the whole restaurant was nearly empty. At this point we were very frustrated as there had been almost no attempts to apologize or update us on where our meals were. Asked for a full refund and left very disappointed. Would not return or recommend.

2nd time visiting here this time we went for a family dinner and ordered for four Sunday special and the serving girl asked what you like with the steak salad or vegetable and fries or croquet also asked what sauce you like. We ordered 4 steak 2 with vegetables also we ordered some starter and kids meal too. Drinks came first after they served starter and kids main and four steak came before even we finish our starter. When we start having the steak, it was like bubble gum you can chew it for your day and night long. When we finished mains we sit and waited to someone to come and offer dessert menu and the kids Sunday icecream. No one came to do the meal check or not even offered another drink on the table must every restaurant do check after main meal served. There was no glasses or water on the table. Even the drinks menu we took from the near table. Finally we thought will go and pay the bill and I paid the bill and i got the receipt from them when I check the bill at home they billed for 2 Sunday special and 2 normal full priced steak from the menu. I tried to call them but the phone was not answering so I just went to them back and i asked so the person was on a wheelchair came and helped me and told that the sunday special is served with only fries and salads not vegitable or croquets you can swap this for a $6 extra cost (didn't mentioned in the special menu or even in the main menu or even the service girl didn't mentioned it will cost extra ), even there was a drink offer with $5 with the special didn't even mentioned to us. He admitted that there was mistake happened the girl didn't properly explained when she took the order and he accepted that and offered me a discount on the bill. I told him that I am not here to get the discount or the money I paid extra that was for no reason. But never ever do people get cheated like this without explaining or without offering what's the deal and what are not included with the deal.

Good Selection, Easy Parking, Tasty Food

Over in Greymouth for a competition. Decided to stop in here for dinner (3 adults, 2 children). We did not have a booking. There was a big table due in within 20mins. They could serve us if we could place our orders promptly. No problem there. Seated at a clean table. Well spaced out dining room. Staff were super friendly. Got a chance to study the menus and then placed our drink orders, entrée orders and main orders. Kids got colouring books to keep themselves entertained. The garlic bread as a starter was a great start - super delicious and our friend ordered the Seafood Chowder which she said was nice. All the mains ordered were tasty and well cooked. Lamb shank was delicious. Staff very attentive and it was easy to order second round of drinks. Toilets were clean and tidy, albeit a little dated and small. Would come here again.

Very disappointed with the service, waited 45 minutes to give our order. When the meals come they all came out at different times. After an hour and a half two people still did not have their meals. As everyone else had eaten we asked to leave. When I went to pay the waitress asked about our meals, I said happy to pay for what we got but not the 2 meals that were missed, she said “good that makes it easy”!... not happy with that, not good enough.

Service with a smile - or two!

Great service and good hearty food. No waiting here! I placed my order from the Pensioners Menu - Schnitzel with mushroom sauce and a coffee while I waited. Coffee arrived a couple of minutes later, and main meal only a couple of minutes more - and cooked to perfection, There is an undercover smoking area, and a good kids menu for when I take the grandchildren, complete with an activity pack. Waitress was attentive, but not overbearing, explained specials and kept tables clean as soon as they were vacated, and all service came with a free smile. Parking on site too = a hidden Greymouth gem !

Food is fine. Not perfect, but it's also more than a diner. The atmosphere is less and the staff is not friendly. We had a starter and two main courses. Everything came at once and I mentioned it, but she didn't do anything with it. Apparently, the young staff don't understand how to serve your customers.

We had a family celebration at The Aussie last night and it was brilliant. The food was The Best. I had a Blue Steak and congratulations to the cook. Not everyone can cook a Blue Steak BUT you nailed it. The rest of my family all enjoyed their meals. I have always said that a business is not just measured by the product they sell but also by the staff that sell it. The staff at The Aussie were top notch. Our Waitress, who hadn't been there very long was as good as any (If Not Better) than I have met. With her American accent and brilliant sense of humor, she kept us laughing all night,(The "Pear Cider" kept my brother very very happy)

Good value meal

Called in off the street for a meal and what we got was the Wednesday nite special of Ribs. Perfect for us. Place use to be a dump of a Hotel, but someone had the thought to spend a bit of dosh and now it is a first rate establishment. Place was well laid out with easy access to all ammenities. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. would reccommend for a good pub style meal. Oh yeah.... The ribs were bloody great. Cheers.

We must have gone on a poor night. Started with chicken tenders, which weren't. Rather tasteless as well. Followed by a burger. Chips oily and not crisp. Burger good sized but poor texture and bland. Guinness really good! Serving staff were helpful. Busy evening, so they must get it right normally.

What a great feed. The best part of the night though was watching a great girl work her tables with perfection! A full restaurant and Necrecia (Sorry I have no idea how you spell it) drinks ordered and on the table, starters there right after super hot and the mains perfectly timed, you’re worth twice the pay you’re on. I’ll get you a job in Oz in 3 minutes if you want it! Hats off to the kitchen as well it was a great meal! Watching the room everyone was prompt with their meals and the whole venue had a great atmosphere on a chilly night. Thank you.
