Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This pub is in an historic colonial building down by the river, and is very nicely furnished inside. Staff were all backpackers, but that's pretty common in NZ. We ordered a mixed fried food platter and salad. I think the platter was just frozen stuff...from a supermarket that had been fried at the pub, but it was still OK. I loved the crispy lattice-pattern potato pieces in the platter.More

Had the mussels which came in a tasteless thick gravy kind of sauce. Decided to come back and give it a second chance for dinner, wish we hadn’t. We would not recommend! The chef needs to learn how to flavour the food!

Another great meal at a Speight's ale house. We went for dinner. My wife had the warm beef salad and I had the steak sandwich. The staff were very attentive, water arrived as soon as we sat down and 5 minutes later the order was...taken. Drinks arrived very promptly and before long our meals arrived. Both meals were very nice and thoroughly enjoyed. Would definitely come again and recommend.More

Stopped in a nearby free camping site just over bridge and walked over in less than 10 mins. Great food! Good quality and big portions. Quite busy with a good atmosphere with live music down the other end the pub. We had a burger and...Thai beef salad - both great! Said on website closed at 9 but this wasn’t the case so worth a ring to see beforehand.More

Staying close by so we drove into Greymouth and decided to eat here. Friendly staff and we were seated right away. Lots on the menu and we choose the blue cod pan fried and the ribeye steak. Of course I had a pint of the...Malt Old Dark and it did not disappoint. We asked for some accommodation on the sides and they had no problem with our requests which were no chips but more roasted veg. Both of our meals were great and my steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare. More than enough to eat. Great dinner overall.More

The best whitebait fritters! Thoroughly enjoyed their high quality food and excellent service in an ideal setting. Just across the road from the railway station if you are on the Tranzalpine!

Just some great Greymouth hospitality. As the title says. Warm cosy and welcoming. Food was great in my opinion. Staff were very gracious allowing 5 noisy kiwis and an Aussie stay a bit longer to watch the league. We went looking for a 2nd option...for tea on our second night. Even went and had a beer at that other place to check it out. Nothing against the pour, but we were drawn back to the Speights Ale House. Thanks teamMore

Speights ale house was perfect to grab pints before the train ride to Christchurch. Their golden ale and black ale were delightful. Situated in east to get to downtown Greymouth with easy access to walk along the water before or after.

We have eaten there four times and without fail the food is delicious. The staff however make this experience a memorable one. They are efficient, attentive and happy….yes happy it makes all the difference. I heard them discussing train times and ensuring people who caugh5b5e...train were looked after. Well done guys!More

Sorry...I can't answer that... I am vegetarian and that is not something I would order... Given that Greymouth does a lot of white baiting in the season I would imagine they would be great
