Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is great, I'm not sure why the restaurant is so highly rated. I would say the food is more "cafeteria style" meaning it seems to have all been cooked in advance, not to order. The food was OK, but nothing special.

We stayed in one of the accommodation units just for one night - it was ok, nothing flash, but everything you need for a short term stay. But the biggest highlight must have been the meal. The photo is of what my husband had: steak...with sea food which he thought was very good! And the hospitality and welcome by the owner was truly beautiful!More

Excellent meal, with very friendly attentive staff. Pub-type atmosphere where you order food at the counter and drinks at the bar. Three of our party had the roast of the day (lamb with mint sauce). All mains were offered with a choice of chips and...salad bar or just vegetables. Either way the portions were substantial and the food was good. I had whitebait which was also very good. Plenty of varied options on the menu. All-in-all an excellent dining experience. We did not have room for dessert, but looking around the restaurant, the dessert servings looked tasty and substantial. Highly recommended.More

We went there for dinner tonight. Two of us had the Roast Lamb, one had ribs and the fourth had the Pork Belly. I had one of the Roast Lambs and it really was one of the best meals I have had in a long...time. The size of the meal was definately value for money. The whole meal was enjoyed by all four of us, Well done to the Paroa HotelMore

Every time I have been here, the roast of the day is Pork, and so I just never get past that line. Other in my group tried other local fare, and were delighted with the results, and my picky - picky grandson consumed an enormous...bowl of pasta, most unlike him. But the blueberry cheesecake was la piece de resistance - well worth the splurge.More

Stayed for 2 nights. Paroa is a great location and we used the Hotel as a base for travelling up and down the West Coast. The room was a little tired but the bed was very comfortable. It was very wet and cold when we...arrived and so an extra heater was found for us which was very welcome. Partner loved his meal at the restaurant. The friendly team at the hotel made this a place we would return to.More

Awesome place to stay, enjoy a drink and have dinner. Love the family atmosphere and that the owners are proud of their establishment and it’s history! Beach is only 1min along the path, rooms are lovely, clean and spacious aswell.

Our trip always includes a meal at the Paroa Hotel. A must have is the turbot. What a huge disappointment, soggy batter, soggy over cooked greasy chips, and the waitress did not want to know. Sharpen up Paroa, you can do better than that,

We stayed here before we started the Wilderness Trail. Great place to stay - quiet, clean and friendly staff. Bike Trail goes right past it. Only problem was we had to bike into Greymouth to officially ‘start’ the track the afternoon before so that was...about 11km off the total we had to do the next day to Kumara. Could mean though that you then bike to Cowboy Paradise and not stay at Kumara. For us it was well worth it to stay in such a great place though. Good breakfast and coffee too. Highly recommendMore

Hi, as far as I'm aware the only day of the year the restaurant is closed is Christmas Day, so I believe you could dine there on New Year's Day. Not sure if you meant New Year's Eve or New Year's day...if the former, sorry... More
