Excellent meal, with very friendly attentive staff. Pub-type atmosphere where you order food at the counter and drinks at the bar. Three of our party had the roast of the day (lamb with mint sauce). All mains were offered with a choice of chips and salad bar or just vegetables. Either way the portions were substantial and the food was good. I had whitebait which was also very good. Plenty of varied options on the menu. All-in-all an excellent dining experience. We did not have room for dessert, but looking around the restaurant, the dessert servings looked tasty and substantial. Highly recommended.

We went there for dinner tonight. Two of us had the Roast Lamb, one had ribs and the fourth had the Pork Belly. I had one of the Roast Lambs and it really was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The size of the meal was definately value for money. The whole meal was enjoyed by all four of us, Well done to the Paroa Hotel

Every time I have been here, the roast of the day is Pork, and so I just never get past that line. Other in my group tried other local fare, and were delighted with the results, and my picky - picky grandson consumed an enormous bowl of pasta, most unlike him. But the blueberry cheesecake was la piece de resistance - well worth the splurge.

This was a really disappointing experience. In in our group of 5 everyone was disappointed with their meals, totally underwhelming. It resembled school canteen food more than a pub restaurant. I ordered the pan fried gurnard with vegetables It was 3 teeny pieces hardly bigger than a finger. Luke warm vegetables straight from the bain marie...carrots cut in circles, frozen peas and corn a teeny piece each of overcooked broccoli and cauliflower with a kind of cheese sauce, an ice cream scoop of mashed potato. The vegetables were not drained properly so the plate was watery. The fish was overcooked and dry....for $34.50 it was disgusting. I didn't use the salad bar for which you were provided a tiny plate, but it looked dismal, dry and unappealing. I mentioned the food was not hot to the wait person and that the meal was generally disappointing, to receive zero response. The restaurant was very quiet...they need to up their game. I was visiting NZ, but the rest of the table were locals and said they would never return. I'd give zero stars if that was an option.

So disappointed with the food and service at this restaurant. I wanted to swap potato for Chips, no can do! They give you a plate to get your salad from a salad bar, so the 39.00 steak turns up and you queue behind a few people to get a few lettuce leaves and come back to a cold steak! Great value roast meal, but the steaks although tasty, tough🥲

I went for Family get together as Daughter & Son inlaw were over from Aussie , there was 9 of us , so alot of Money was being spent . I ordered Turbot and Salad , which is on their permanent Menu & I have had numerous times before , when my meal arrived which took an hour I was very dissapointed to recieve 1 small piece of Gurnard so I took it up to the resturant for a refund , Alan the Manager came out to see what my problem was & was getting very grumpy with me , making all sorts of excuses about Staff memeber being new to job & she should have told me , to them not being able to get Turbot , I said it shouldn`t have been on their Menu then , I said I just want my money back , He gave me my money back & proply whipped my salad off me & then him & the Barmaid kept eyeballing me from behind the bar the rest of the night , as my family were sharing their meals with me , otherwise I was the only person at table not eating. Worse experience & we will never be back.

We had dinner two nights in a row and both nights the food was delicious with generous servings. The menu is varied so all tastes are covered and there is a great list of specials. The mussels were perfectly cooked and the ribs were falling off the bone with a genuinely finger-licking good sauce. All our starters, mains and desserts were tasty and there is a very reasonably priced wine list. What made our meals happy experiences was the service. Friendly, attentive and obviously passionate about ensuring you have a good time.

Our trip always includes a meal at the Paroa Hotel. A must have is the turbot. What a huge disappointment, soggy batter, soggy over cooked greasy chips, and the waitress did not want to know. Sharpen up Paroa, you can do better than that,

Soooooo pleased we went here, we had a 5 hour road trip and was very hungry and tired. The staff were so friendly and helpful, even the owner shook our hands and welcomed us - couldn’t believe it. The food was fantastic, fresh, tasty and plentiful - we even had breakfast the next day yummy corn fritters. The accommodation was comfortable and clean and a good size. Thank you to all the staff we were blown away by the helpfulness the deliciousness and amazing hospitality.

We ate here during our recent three week SI road trip, when we stayed at the hotel for the night. We’d eaten here several times when we stayed a few nights in late 2018. The food was just as good this time. We both had the roast of the day, which was lamb. It was a very generous helping and lovely veges with it. I was going to have the cheesecake, but I was so full I couldn’t manage it. We hope to stay at the hotel again next trip, and will definitely be eating n the restaurant each night. Very good service, friendly staff and good prices.

We came here on our first family holiday since having our son (4months old). Wonderful place to stay, nice large room where we could hear the ocean, looking out onto a lovely garden area. 2min max walk down the path to the beach. Our little one was quite unsettled after a long car trip and needed an early night, so we ordered meals to our room from the restaurant- very fast service 10/10 for the food! Onsite bottle store, and dairy next door was super convenient. Second night we were delighted to be able to eat at the restaurant (my partner had asked me to marry him that day so we wanted a wee celebration!) Despite being busy every staff member we came accross was incredibly friendly and helpful, service was fast and the meals were absolutely gorgeous, even managed a glass of celebratory wine before heading back to the room to pop baby to bed. We had cooked breakfast both mornings of our stay, again absolutely lovely. The hospitality here is next level, always met with a smile and asked if we needed anything, and if things were going ok. We have found our west coast holiday spot, and look forward to coming back year after year as our wee boy grows.

We had had a long day, checked into our accommodation and then to this hotel for dinner. We had been told the meal servings were very generous. Firstly it is a very attractive looking hotel, built of local stone, and secondly, after nearly a month travelling around NZ and having had some great meals along the way, I have to say this was THE best. We had their version of surf and turf, it was a very tender piece of porterhouse, topped with a piece of the local fish (Turbot) and two big, fat, delicious scallops served with a medly of steamed vegetables. The service was friendly, and as it was a Tuesday night, it was not crowded. Can highly recommend.

We stayed in one of the accommodation units just for one night - it was ok, nothing flash, but everything you need for a short term stay. But the biggest highlight must have been the meal. The photo is of what my husband had: steak with sea food which he thought was very good! And the hospitality and welcome by the owner was truly beautiful!

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The drinks were fine but the food was disappointing. The pork belly overcooked, the turbot plain and the salad bar confusing. When did sugar go in home made mayonnaise?? For this price I will choose the pub next time.
