Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quail is wonderful for a morning meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or brunch. The staff are always lovely, the coffee was hot, and the food was as great as ever. Quail has to be one of the best cafes in Whangarei due to the...lovely atmosphere Lily and her staff have created. I will always recommend it.More

This place is the one! Staff have great vibes, coffee hits the spot and food - honestly the menu is simple but in a good way where you still can't decide what to get because it looks so good! I also mean simple in a...way that's like, easy to understand and you still know you're getting something good no matter what you choose! Food is plated beautifully and ... if nothing tickles your fancy on the menu - get into the cabinet. Have you seen how thick the peanut butter is in the peanut butter slice? Yeooooow. I'll be back! The fav!More

Good cafe food, quite a busy spot, staff friendly and helpful. I had a good Reuben lookalike with very generous portions of corned beef. My wife had a "Bruschetta" which was more of a smashed avo and hummus with greens on top of toasted sourdough...and a side of chopped tomato and other items. But which she enjoyed! Definitely worth a visit. As are the gardens.More

We stopped for a break, just wanted some pastry. Took about 15 minutes, although there was a lot of staff, and the place was not busy. Also, this was the only time in New Zealand that an almond croissant had to be heated, and that...Danish was served with cream... Priced high, even for NZ standards. Sorry, not recommendable.More

Came across this cafe after a walk in the gardens. Unfortunately this place is let down by terrible service. Waited over an hour for food to arrive. No apologies given. Not worth the wait. Food arrived cold. Also note to staff, if you drop utensils...on the ground, please was them and not use them on food!More

Went here quite a few times in Summer 2021 while moving my Mum up North. It is the loveliest cafe, set in Quarry Gardens, it is very busy and you can see why, it has the best food and the staff are so lovely. I...bought my Mum here for a little birthday morning tea and they even put a candle on her cake. She was made to feel very special. I look forward to visiting again when i am in NZMore

I’ve often met family here on Sundays for brunch as the menu caters for young and old. The staff are very attentive and the atmosphere is 10/10. You could enjoy a stroll in the garden or just have a quick cuppa. There’s vegan options and...their chef seems to really push out your order even when super busy. For me Quail is a hidden gem that everyone should enjoy.More

We enjoyed the mac'n'cheese and chicken croissant with an iced latte, all delicious. Staff were efficient and setting is beautiful, a great lay by if you're needing a rest and to energise for another go in the gardens

Found Quail Cafe via on-line. Surprised and so happy to discover this gem in Whangarei. The food was great including many Gluten Free options. We received great service with very friendly staff. The location is a little on the edge of town but the setting,...overlooking a creek and verging on a tropical garden is just superb. The tropical gardens are a delight to walk through and whole package is a jewel in Whangarei. Dana &MarieMore

Great set-up. Lovely food and of course the gorgeous gardens. Was surprised how interesting the menu is and it more than lived up to expectations. We had the savoury and sweet pancakes and very good Lattes.
