Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This has to be one of the best restaurants this side of the black stump. The food is incredible, the staff are amazing, the atmosphere is spot on. They just don't miss a beat. I thoroughly recommend this excellent hidden gem, to anyone who enjoys...the experience of eating! Be sure to book, though... as it's super popular (for obvious reasons)More

Had a meal here last time in Whangarei. Decided to return. Did not disappoint. Delicious food well presented. We both had the fish of the day which was perfectly cooked. Staff very attentive. Definitely put this restaurant on your list if in Whangarei.

Very good food. Staff were very friendly and attentive. My steak was perfectly cooked, rosti a little sloppy but tasted good. Toffee brûlée was outstanding. My partner enjoyed his meal too. Only complaint was the table. The bar under the table hit us in the...knees and made it very uncomfortable to sit at the table. People at the table behind us had the same problem.More

We were looking for a nice restaurant on the last night of our holiday. Tonic had good reviews so we ventured out. Everything was spot on. Lovely food, awesome presentation and on top of that excellent service and ambience. The Guava yoghurt mousse with passionfruit...puree and pineapple and basil sorbet was sublime.More

I had heard a lot about Tonic and how great the food was so I was quite excited about finally having the chance to try it for myself. Right from when we first arrived we were welcomed by such friendly and inviting staff who were...always so attentive. The food was extraordinary and it was such a welcomed take on Asian-fusion. We ate the prawn croquettes and tuna tartare for entrée, followed by lamb rack for main. All of the food was beautifully prepared and cooked to perfection. I had the chance to meet the owner and chef, Logan, who was incredibly friendly and so welcoming. He and the team are so passionate and it really shows through their delicious food and exceptional service. For anyone in search of a great restaurant with amazing food, make your next stop Tonic. I believe it’s the finest food Whangarei has to offer.More

Absolutely delicious meal, both adults loved the braised pork belly. The 10 year old really enjoyed the vegetarian options, particularly the caramelised onion and goats cheese tart. Delicious sides to share and the beautifully presented desserts tasted as good as they looked, the flavours popped....Great service, lovely wines and a pleasant ambience. Going back next week.More

The meal l had was lamb, it was ok, but l would suggest the chef try it, because there wasn’t a lot of flavour, my friends meal was the fish, potato stack was cold, very small portion, she also said it was okay, the service...was good and setting very nice, this meal could have been so much better with a little more attention, when you are paying 38 dollars, the meat should melt in your mouth and very tasty,More
