Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rang and made a reservation for what is advertised as a licensed restaurant. Arrived and was asked what we wanted to drink before we even sat down only to find out they are not currently licensed but should be in a few weeks. Ordered a...lemonade and a girl came over reached in front of us and poured water but didn't acknowledge or greet us. Cancelled our lemonade, advised we were wanting a licensed restaurant and left. Had we been told when reserving a table that they were not licensed we would have not gone. Had the staff been more welcoming and attentive we would have stayed on for the meal and been accepted the no license.More

Back in Whangarei after two years. This time we opted for takeaways and selected two medium trays for$12.50 each for smorgasbord. About a dozen options. Plenty to yum about! Very filling. Pleasant service. Thanks.

You can leave your car in either the Countdown or New World supermarkets and grab a Chinese meal just across the road. How easy is that !! Anyhow, my wife and I were delighted to find that the Tai Tong serves Yum Char at lunchtime...on Saturdays and Sundays, something we didn't think would be available in Whangarei. The selection of Chinese dumplings and other little yum char snacks was relatively small but quite adequate and I'm afraid we pigged out. The staff were extremely attentive and very pleasant. I haven't had an opportunity to try this restaurant's regular a la carte menu as yet but hope to do so in future.More

Very traditional Chinese restaurant. Good flavours for those who appreaciate meat. Not many options for vegetarians, though. Great service.

Went to Tai Tong last night for a quiet birthday dinner with my sproglet. We were the only ones there - but it was early! We shared a combo entree which was really nice and then shared our mains - Chicken & Cashews and Sweet...& Sour Pork. All dishes were beautifully presented, more than filling and tasted fabulous! We struggled to finish and couldn't manage to eat all the rice! Will definitely go again!!!!More

Was a bit nervous when this place was empty, especially given the mixed reviews, but we were at New World right opposite and decided to give it a go (we were early diners after all). Entry was via the takeaway section, and we were ushered...into an empty restaurant, with pleasant background music. What to choose from the extensive menu. She finally chose an egg fuyung and he one of the sizzling steaks. The waitress wasn't sure of the details (we all have to start building up our knowledge and she was obviously new), but very willing to help and impress. One of the chefs then came through to explain and help guide us - thank you. The steak was sure hot and the dish pleasant, as was the fuyung, and side of chips (will cooked and hot - excellent!). Good price too. Takeaway side seemed well patronised. We'd be among the patrons if we lived in Whangarei.More

Awesome steam dumplings at $11 per dozen @ 14/5/19. They could do with a little more sauce and offer different sauces as well but for Whangarei it's A Okay. Yum Char is nice but rather expensive. Not a meal one can choose too often. Their...fish and cheap deals are the best in Whangarei @ value for your $$$$. Service can be a little hap-hazard but I have noted their staff turnover is quite high so training new staff takes time. The restaurant itself is rather 'dated' but it's not the looks the that patrons come for as many are regulars, myself included. Location is awesome. Not too far from Central Whangarei and all those in the suburbs need to pass this restaurant to get into the hub of the City. Former reviews haven't been great but that was then, this is now..More

A short walk from where we were staying. The food tastes great. It is an authentic Chinese shop. They have both sit down and take-a-way meals. We are going back again tonight for more. Yummy
