Returning customer here, we ordered different meals and were just as impressed. Succulent samosas, unique banana cheese prawn puffs, mouth watering tofu peanut sauce stir fry, yummy uttapam, another heavenly duck curry, smooth falloda and a sizzling brownie(and absolute must have). All dishes well presented, restaurant's decor and music add to the atmosphere. This place is a tru Whangarei gem.

Have a night stop at Whangarei and find this restaurant we ordered takeaway of Pork Panang Curry and Chicken Sam Ros, all with rice and at affordable prices. Enjoyed our dinner at our hotel, these Thai foods were delicious with generous portions. Nice, relax and yummy dinner for us. This retaurant is located at the ground floor of Grand Hotel building.

Ordered takeaways- chicken & cashew stirfry and fried rice. The stir fry only filled half the container and the fried rice was incredible bland with chuck wagon peas carrot & corn. Dissatisfied with the portions and the taste was lacklustre. Real shame their food used to be top notch!

Staying at the Grand Hotel. Tried the restaurant downstairs. Excellent southern Indian food. Dining in I was able to sample a fair selection of the menu. Dosa prepared to perfection. Interesting dumplings, cool blue beer cocktail. Will be back.

We pass through Whangarei to go camping every year and always spend a night. We found Grand Thai through Google as it was close.
The exterior made us a little nervous but don't judge a book by its cover. From the second we walked in the restaurant we were totally looked after. The owner (I'm assuming) greeted us with a big smile and we were seated. She was so friendly. Her staff we attentive and nothing was a problem. The bottle of wine we ordered was not available so they upgraded us at no cost. Excellent service. Fantastic food. It will be our go to when we go to Whangarei and I think you should too.

This has always been our favorite Thai restaurant in Whangarei. Not any more. There must have been a change in management. It just wasn't authentic any more. Ordered red curry takeaways. Mostly thin curry sauce. More tinned bamboo shoots than meat. Only 4 beans and about the same number of red capsicum - literally. Even the rice containers were only 3/4 full. Really disappointed and almost impossible to believe we'll go back. Sorry!

We had a great meal at this restaurant, good service and good prices. Very nice staff. One of our group uses a disability scooter and was able to ride right in the door from the street, all the way to the table.

We decided to visit after we read the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Every dish had a personality and a presentation to match. We also had desserts and they were also unusual. What a great idea to combine Thai and Indian cuisine in one restaurant. This means everyone will surely find what they like on the menu. There are also some Chinese dishes and pasta. We will definitely be back next time we are in Whangarei. Thank you for your hospitality and expertise!

We both had different Thai curry. Lunch special$15 incredible value. The sauce was sublime. Chicken beef tender. Presentation like a top restaurant. Great service

Food was excellent, my friend said BEST garlic bread ever.
Lunch prices were at $17 better than anywhere else.
Very highly recommended, PS reluctant to tell too many people.

Disappointed that the new owners have removed Thai decorations and all staff are just dressed in black, destroying the ambience that was the main appeal of this restaurant. Food and service okay, but the Grand Thai has lost its charm for me, sadly.

Was there on a weeknight. The staff were pleasant and the service was good. Pleasant ambience. I had pad Thai, pork, and was a little disappointed as the only vegetables in it were tough carrots and courgettes. It was mediocre.
