Great for vegetarians. Their salads are so good, that you don't want to fill up your pita bread with felafel. My recommendation is to get a veg salad pita bread, with a felafel on the side.

I can highly recommend the Mediterranean Salad, super delicious! Falafel are yum as well. Not the greatest atmosphere to stay for a whole evening but the food is very good.

Isn’t it strange how a run of excellent reviews can be interrupted by a scathing one? Sometimes it almost seems as if the occasional reviewer had eaten somewhere else. Our experience of this little place was great, with good food, super service and affordable prices...More

What a great find in Whangarei serving the very best Israeli/middle eastern food at reasonable prices. It would be hard to find somewhere that could better it. Service was top rate and very friendly right in the middle of town amongst other interesting restaurants

On our way north travelling around NZ we decided to have dinner at this establishment. The food was fresh and authentic, easily comparable to my homeland. The prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended.

The Fat Camel came highly recommended by a local... Whangarei must be 'starved' of decent eateries if this was a recommendation! We arrived super hungry and thought the meals must be either 'amazing' and big portions given the rather pricey $$ for a casual cafe...More

Well worth the stop for the great babaganoosh and hummus and tabuleh. Not to mention the fresh home cooked dessert. The locals must have got the message since it was packed at 2:30 pm.

Every time we are in Whangarei we have to stop in at the Fat Camel. They have consistently good coffees and we've tried their shakshuka for breakfast, and their chicken and lamb kebab on rice. So so tasty! Their home made hummus is delicious, as...More
