We came to the quay last Saturday for a friends birthday. They had a new menu and we were looking forward to something different. We were not disappointed. Two of our guests shared the half lamb shoulder which fell from the bone. Two other guests...shared the wagu and I had the fish of the day. The service was rushed but excellent. They were very busy so to be expected. I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go backMore

I visited The Quay for lunch and had cold venison salad, a green bean side and one glass of wine. Half an hour after leaving, I started to feel very ill and by another half hour had vomited the lunch. I was nauseated for the...rest of the day but could eat by the following morning. I have no known food allergies and have a strong stomach - I haven't experienced vomiting for about twenty years until that day. I phoned The Quay to report the problem so they could investigate. The duty manager told me it couldn't be food poisoning because it came on too quickly and asked,"Was it over-truffled to your liking?" I found that response patronising and pretentious. He did eventually say he would tell the staff on duty that lunchtime. I looked at the CDC guidance about food poisoning and within an hour of eating food contaminated with staph vomiting can occur. Staph is common when food is not cooked after handling, often occuring in cold meats. Other problems may take 2 hours or more to show up. I don't know what the problem was but I have informed the health authorities - their response was excellent and they will work with the Quay to examine their processes. That was all I wanted - I eat at the associated Cove and Dune restaurants and have had no problems. If the duty manager I phoned had been responsive and friendly and not tried to imply that I vomited because I didn't like the lunch I would not have posted this review.More

Fabulous location right on the water, we had the best pizza we have ever had outside of Naples. We had the salmon, spinach, dill, feta, capers, red onion and cheese one and it was delicious-110% you won’t be disappointed!

Went in with my daughter to have breakfast, wanted an outside table. There were at least 6 tables outside free and when we went to get seated. The concierge came across said all the tables were taken and she was holding them for people who...had booked for lunch. Yet it was only 10am. Felt our apperances at this restraunt were not good enough to eat there. Yet we drive a 6 figure car as a run around and own a 7 figure house. #smalltownmentalityMore

Visited the quay last night and we all had such a great experience, the food was 10 out of 10 and so was the service. It was packed but it was like watching a well oiled machine. I had the Harpuka which was one of...the best fish of the day I had had. The others the chicken and the fire pizza which were also well enjoyed. A bottle of Q Pinot Noir from Central Otago washed it all down nicely. A very buzzy night with great music and ambience. One again thanks for a brilliant night.More

Visited Quay for a light and late lunch after a walk in around the Whangarei Harbour. The head of wait staff assumed we were coming in only for a drink and proceeded to quite insultingly specify that we must order food and each person needed...to order something individually. It felt as if we were being lectured and told to take our business elsewhere.More

Our meal was completely spoiled by the loud, heavy bass, "doof doof" so-called music resonating from the speakers above our heads. Despite asking for it to be changed or turned down, there was little response from the staff. Our meal was ok, but over-salted, so...our overall experience was not particularly good, which was disappointing for a supposedly higher end restaurant which charges top dollar. We are unlikely to return although the place is clearly popular.More

Great location, staff very friendly, however we had to wait for our meals for an hour. Others arrived after us but had their food before us. When asking when the food would arrive, we were told “any minute”, however it was still nearly 15 minutes...before we had it. We were about to leave. I think they must have forgotten us and have hastily put together our meals. The beans were undercooked and the meat only just warm enough. That’s 2 stars down. We were never asked during the meal whether everything was ok, nor when we paid. For a place of that price range I’d expect those questions. That’s another star down. So it’s only 2 stars in the end. Oh, and the food was “pretty good”, however price-adjusted “ok”. Won’t return.More

Dined tonight at the Quay with a group of 11. Had the venison entrée as a main with a bean side salad. Was probably the best meal I have ever had. The flavors were amazing, wanted to lick my plate! The ret of the group...had great meals too, wished I was a local so I could go back. Recommend this restaurant big time. Great service and friendly staff too.More
