Dropped in with my brother for late lunch. had very good lamb and chicken and fresh bread. Se food was served very fast and really hot! Very nice meat, quick service, good portions with rice and bread. Definitely very good value for money. Hot dish was hot without being mouth-scorching .... very recommendable at very reasonable prices.

Recommended for the Curry Connoisseur !

As mentioned in previous reviews - very friendly and attentive service. Ordered onions bhaji which were served piping hot and full of flavour with mint raita and tamarind sauce. Chicken Tikka starter which was succulent Chicken Vindaloo extra hot which packed a punch and lived up to expectations. And garlic nan bread which was one of the best I’ve had. Highly recommend for quality and value. Thank you.

So Affordable and Such a Yummy Dinner!

A holiday weekend Monday and we wanted a quick dinner. The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was great with lots and lots of things to choose from catering to all food preferences. There was also a good selection of beverages. The cost of a three course meal with a beverage for 2 was under $80! Great value, great food, great service!

Better Places to eat

We decided to eat here based on the reviews on TA. Well TA you definitely let us down this time, fishing around in my curry trying to find the chicken I was terribly disappointed. I am intrigued as to how this restaurant become number 1 in Whangarei on Trip Advisor, its not even number 1 in that row of shops. Whangarei has an incredible amount of places to go and eat this restaurant shouldnt feature.

Lovely Place to Dine

We love this restaurant. Cute size, tidy and great ambiance. Lovely service from everyone there. They are flexible with options, the food tastes amazing, it's a BYO with minimal corkage fee and it's a really comfortable place to eat and relax.

Best Indian food in Whangarei

The food at this restaurant is so delicious. Our boy's favorite here is the mango chicken which is packed with flavor. As locals it is one of our favourite go to spots and very well priced. The menu is extensive and we try to get one new dish each time we go to expand our range. The owners and staff are so welcoming and friendly too. Great option for a meal in Whangarei

The best Indian authentic food in whangarei

I promise that you will not be disappointed with their service and food. I have tried all other Indian restaurants in whangarei but for me being an Indian food lover KHANE BAHAR is the best. Please do visit this place and enjoy your lunch or dinner. All the dishes are value for money too.

Pleasant evening

Four for food; three for service. Tried some new dishes and enjoyed them. Some appetizers didn't seem fully cooked [ had been frozen?] and ice cream was a bit icy [as if defrosted and then refrozen], but the taste of the mains was lovely, thankyou.

I've had their takeaway meals for a few years now but this was the first time I have had a sit down meal. It was great, service very good, food was very nice and tasty. I just wish it was hotter ( not temp but spicy ) when we ask for it to be HOT I wanna to be sweating. That's the dumb thing about Indian restaurants in NZ and they have to ask if you want it mild/medium/ hot. Just make it how it should be... butter chicken is mild, Jalfrezi or a Vindaloo are hot. Just order accordingly. But overall by far the best in Whangarei.

With more work this place could go from good to great.

We had an OK to good meal here and certainly received a friendly service. The bathroom door could do with a new coat of paint. Back to the food, the garlic naan was nicely done, the butter chicken was also spot on. However, the chicken saagwala was sadly tasteless, the lamb rogan josh was just ok. Two out of the four meals we ordered was very heavily tomato paste taste. It was an OK to good meal, really 3.5 star if I want to be honest, definitely expected better food, and more meat in the dishes.

A bit disappointing

I insisted on getting our food from this restaurant because we had ordered from there before and I was impressed with the food. Unfortunately, this time, the food was not as good as the last time. Everyone who tried my lamb Madras commented that it was not lamb. So not sure because all I could taste was the sauce (and a lot of it!) I hope they do improve the quality of their food.

Exceptional. Best Indian dining we’ve had in New Zealand for a very long time. True spice flavours in the food, not mass produced sauces, and meats have been cooked in the sauces. Lovely service. World class with excellent value for money.

My faith restored

After a disappointing meal about a year and half ago, we decided to try Khane Bahar restaurant again. Our meal was great. We were all impressed with the food. Admittedly we didn't order any beef or lamb dishes, but I am hoping that if and when we do, we will be equally impressed. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Perfect Naan and dessert

Came after reading the reviews. Our butter Naan was PERFECT. Samosas, bhaji and pacoras all seemed lacking flavour to us (we've both been to India and know Indian food well). Bhatia was mostly batter and not much onion. Chicken Dhansak was tasty, buy again once you cjewed through chicken pieces, the flavour was only on the outside, not inside. Mango Kulfi was tasty.

Enjoyable

Have eaten here a few times with friends in a group. Service is very good and the food was yummy. We had some great family/friend times here together and then as there was left over we took home some doggie bags for human consumption. Simple, tasty food and reasonably priced. Definitely will keep going.
