Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The service was friendly and attentive service which straight away set up a fabulous atmosphere. We ordered the sausage rolls which were gourmet offerings and iced coffees which were perfect for such a hot day. Sitting outside was totally charming. It gave my wife and I a break away from my sick mother.

Four of us went for breakfast. We found this venue to be very popular and it's easy to see why. My wife had smashed avocado on toast (really tasty) and the rest had buttermilk pancakes with bacon, banana, syrup and berries. The pancakes were soft and fluffy and delicious. Hot drinks were excellent. There is quite a bit of local artist's paintings on the walls, which added to the enjoyment. The menu isn't extensive, but has all the stuff one would expect to find st a good breakfast venue. We'll definitely be back.

Food- cabinet food has a great choice- slices, savoury heat n eats plus a menu. A little slow on the coffee machine today, but always consistent. Great venue for a catch- up with plenty of space to chew the proverbial.

You know I don’t usually mind paying too much for good service and food, but by our standards in Whanganui this is scandalous.
A piece of pie, $11.50. A tiny scone $4.50 and a moderate coffee $5.82. None of it especially well presented, it’s even cheaper in the big cities than in this cafe.
All al lot more expensive than when run by the previous manager, but the meals haven’t grown in fact the portions are smaller.
It’s a nice wee atmosphere, the staff are pleasant but come on, do you need to fleece everyone who comes in the door?

Pluses- Nice pot of tea for one. Very good iced chocolate. Quick service.
Negatives-Cooked breakfast is as stated on the menu, no option for different type of eggs. Because of this had to order choice of egg on toast and then extras on top; bacon, sausage etc. Made for a very expensive and average $27 breakfast.

Conveniently located on the outskirts of Whanganui with ample parking. The Yellow house is a converted old house with eating areas hidden in each room.
Staff were friendly and didn't mind me snapping away.
Felt like we were sitting on a friends porch while enjoying the "Yellow House Muesli" and "Eggs Benedict with Hashbrowns" of which were presented beautifully and tasted delicious.
Great find

I popped in for a late brekkie, went for the popular avocado smash with feta cheese and added mint which is a new one for me. Hot chocolate was also good, pricing was fair, staff were good and plenty of seating options. Enjoy......

We often do the Wellington to New Plymouth journey to visit family so are constantly on the look out for good stop offs to get ourselves watered and fed.
This awesome find in Whanganui is prob be our go to from now on due to its location and most of all quality of food.
We enjoyed the breakfast, eggs Benny and coffees, all of which were devoured! Everything on the menu looked great so can’t really moment it enough.

A great Cafe in an old villa with superb ambience and coffee, a great place to relax and catch up. It reputably has the best cheese scones in Whanganui but I wouldn't know since all gone by 10:30 am on a Saturday. Hence only 4*. The other food look good and interesting but I'd set my heart on the scone. Oh well, next time.

My mother loved it here recently when we took her out for lunch and she discovered the excellent chicken fettucine lunch option. She has been quite unwell of late, so it was great that the staff treated her with dignity and gave her access to a real treat. Impressive quality in terms of both service and food quality!

Yellow House is just that, a yellow house that creates great food from scratch. From the bread and baking to the sauces, all is prepared in their own kitchen. Good food, great coffee, friendly staff, and local art on the walls. It’s well worth a visit.

Hmmm not impressed but it's ok. Waiter almost threw our food onto table. Expensive given the content of meals. I got the burger which was delicious, fries that came with it weren't particularly generous or hot, suspect they cook a whole lot and serve freshly cooked with other fries that have been sitting for some time. Took an age to get food and wasn't particularly busy either.

Lovely quirky little place
We went for lunch and had a wonderful time. The converted house has lots of dining space divided in different rooms. The service was quick and friendly, food fresh, fast and tasty
Interesting art on the walls
Definitely a revisit planned

We arrived on a very busy Sunday morning around the 10am. We were informed of a 40 min wait on arrival, but was much quicker than that. Lovely food, huge pancakes and the avo smash was super tasty! Eggs in Benedict were slightly over , nice hollandaise. Great, attentive, friendly staff.
