Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really enjoyed our Devonshire tea in the Main Room. The scones were delectable and the strawberry jam and cream totally fresh and full of flavour. It was above all the ambience that appealed...the Homestead has been beautifully restored and is such a great place in which to partake of this succulently special afternoon tea. It was fabulous for our party consisting of myself, my wife, my mother and my cousin.

We came with friends again in September and the Devonshire tea that I shouted was as excellent as ever! the scones, fresh cream and strawberry jam all hit the proverbial spot. It is also so charming to wander all over the fabulous homestead.

From planning stages to visit completion, we had superb experiences with Bushy Park. On arrival, we were met by Dale, our gracious and very knowledgeable host, and Esther, our equally charming and wise guide for our bush walks. Our walks included exploration of the life in the lake (armed with nets and aquatic animal guide sheets), saddlebacks, stitchbirds, kereru and more. We were delighted by the prolific bird life and the background chorus of bird calls. Our time in the bush was all too short and we returned to the stunning Category 1 homestead for lunch. Because we had a group of 18 and limited time, we had pre-ordered our lunches. They were delicious, beautifully presented on fine china with silver tea service. Dale gave us a fascinating presentation on the history of the house and surroundings. We followed this with independent tours of the wonderful house and mini-museum. The day was a fabulous taste of what a longer stay could be. 2 of our group had stayed overnight and could not speak highly enough of the sumptuous meal the night before and the wonderful experience of staying in this stately home.

As we had heard rave reviews about these walks, we decided one day to try it out. So, my sister and I travelled from Wellington to the park, we had to park way around the back because of a group of vintage cars, so we were unable to go inside the Homestead and we were very disappointed. There were some benches there to have lunch, but it was not a very nice atmosphere at the back. So, as we had bought some lunch with us, we decided to walk the bush tracks and find a lovely place to have it. After half an hour of getting lost because there were not many sign-posts, we seemed to be going round and round. My sister is a big person and she wanted to rest. So we spent some time trying to find a little seat for her. Eventually we did, but it was in a very dark place with no sun, so we went looking for another place to have our lunch, but found nothing. Somehow we found our way back to the dark seating place and had our lunch. We never saw any birds whatsoever but heard maybe 2 or 3 on our way. The only sun we saw was when we found another track which led to a boardwalk. It would have been nice if there were some picnic benches scattered around for people as in 'The Redwood Forest' in Rotorua. We left after 2 hours feeling very disappointed indeed, and also we couldn't even go into the homestead to have a look or have a hot drink which would have made us feel a bit better. So, I can't review the Homestead itself if we never entered it

The grounds are lovely to walk around and spot some birds. It all has a very peaceful air. We also had a cream tea at the main house and an impromptu tour around it. It is a wonderful view into the early days of gracious living for settlers (and you can still stay here - spacious rooms but no en suite). The cream tea was very nice too, served on the verandah over-looking the front lawn (and car park). Maybe it is all a bit tired splendour, but on a Sunday, it was so quiet. Very nice for us, but very puzzling. A similar property in England would be far busier.

Fron the fantastic walks through the native bush, our excellent hosts, croquet on the front lawn, delicious Devon tea, superb dinner, all set in a beautifully restored historical homestead! This was an amazing experience. Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect!

A wonderful bush experience awaits you behind the historic Main house at Bushy Park. The Trails offer annointated descriptions of many NZ bush plants and features a very special massive historic tree. You can spend an hour or an entire day depending on your schedule. It;s also a great location for weddings!

Just a beautiful drive, not far from Whanganui and when you get there it is a very special spot for walks, a delicious scone and cup of tea, bush walks and wildlife. Have not stayed there but it looks a great place to stay for a night or two.

Lovely drive out to this homestead, which is set in on a large property, formerly a farm, beautiful long drive in from the road, with bush both sides. A predator fence has been erected and more wild life should eventuate. Afternoon tea was set in a historic room and was in keeping with the times with lovely china etc. The accommodation and reception rooms all echo the history of the place. there is a lovely bush walk at the back past the old stables, and the view from the front of the house is quite lovely. Jazz afternoons are held on the front lawn during the year.

Not related to Bushy Park near Epson. If you are interested in ancient woodlands, go. Have no knowledge of trees but you learn a lot on the walk round the small forest, an easy 40 minutes. House itself is single storey but gives the impression that it should have another. A bit off the beaten track but still only 30 minutes from Wanganui. Rooms can be rented if you want a bit of privacy.

Old preserved homestead. We stopped in for a coffee & walked around several of the tracks thru the bush & among a number of native birds was most impressed to see several Saddlebacks in this predater free area

To visit the giant 1000 year old rata tree with a girth of 11m always give me shivers down my back - if this thing could talk it would be so great.
