Red curry was exquisite. The Pad Thai, Thai Basil, spring rolls and moneybags were good.
Portion sizes were all decent for price paid and service was very accommodating.
We are from Auckland and were pleasantly surprised to learn of this restaurant in the area when we were craving Thai. Better than most places back home.

The best Thai meal. I had salmon and my. Husband had honey roasted duck and both were amazing. The restaurant was very busy but the smiling, friendly staff and the quality of the food and speed of delivery was fantastic.

A bit of a mixed experience for our group. We dined as a large group as we were celebrating. Service was flawless, especially the young lady waiting our table. However... the members of our group that ordered the hidden treasure seafood dish were very disappointed. Some of the seafood was undercooked and chewy. I ordered pad Thai which was delicious! The spare ribs were also hard to chew. Roti was good but chips could have been more seasoned.

We had been excited to go for birthday tea however, the food and service was terrible. I couldn't eat my thai beef salad. It was raw, with a diluted tomato ketchup type dressing. the kiwi salad ingrediants did not work, lettuce and tomato. the waiting staff took my meal away and no apology forthcoming. My son ordered nasi goreng noodles and couldn't eat his meal. the taste of the curry base was wrong, and definitely not in the thai food taste or style. from 6 meals ordered, 2 full meals were returned mainly uneaten, the other meals picked at. really out of character for a thai restaurant that reviews well. waiting staff were 'unable' to help, rectify the problem. $200 was a lot of money to pay for uneaten meals and unhappy customers. Very disappointing that the staff refused to make it right.

Food was ok except for my Husband's massaman curry which was dreadful. What I am most upset about is the appalling service. We were minutes from walking out as no one seemed to want to serve us, when they did take our order the waitress was borderline rude!!!! Didn't ask what strength we wanted our curry's and was clearly not interested. Our starters went to the next table, when she realized the mistake she just grabbed it from the other table and plonked it down without a word. When she served the mains she stood at the table talking to a colleague and then put it on the table not telling us which dish it was. Honestly I'm upset I spent money here when there are so many nice places to eat. If I could give it minus I would.

Dear Mrs Smith, as alluded to by May, we are deeply sorry this has taken place. My wife and I took a 4 day break in Hawkes Bay and are horrified to learn about this on our return. If you could please advise the table number this would assist us greatly in preventing this from occurring again.
Regarding the massaman curry will you please specify exactly what was wrong with it please? We would love to welcome you back with a voucher to enable us to make amends.

It was a busy weekend in Whanganui and we had booked a table for 2. Our order was taken quite quickly - shared spring rolls, sweet & sour beef for my husband, chicken panaeng curry for me, and a Singa beer each. The spring rolls were duly delivered and then we waited and waited. Finally we managed to catch the eye of a waitress and asked about our beers. She seemed confused and sent the manager across. She tried to explain that there were others ahead of us thinking we were asking why the food delay. Got that confusion sorted and it still took some time for the beers to come. Then we waited and waited and waited. A table of 4 who came in after us were served their mains. We had decided we would walk out and just in time our mains arrived. The food was good. The manager came across and asked how we enjoyed our meals. We answered that they were good but that we were disappointed in the quality of the service. She was apologetic and deducted the price of one of the beers.
We also noticed meals being delivered to incorrect tables - in general utter confusion. We realise it was a busy night and there are staff shortages/problems nationwide.
However, we will never go back.

Sorry to hear about that. The busy night was compounded by 2 x staff members not working their notice and departing elsewhere for greener pastures in Wgtn. Not your problem and I deeply apologize for the lack of service. Should you return pse make yourself known to the manager as we would love to make amends.

Service 1/5 ... slow to deliver menus and very slow to take orders and then slow to actually deliver our beers and wines .. once we ordered the were quick in getting it done
Food 2/5 .. nothing like real thai food. The mussaman curry was all potato and a few strips of beef, verly sweet, no depth of flavor. Pad Thai was very small for $29, more noodles than substance. The larb was a joke and nothing like the photos they show.
At least the rice was ok!

Hello, thank you for your response. I am unsure if that was the case, as we typically serve our food in generous portions, and we have not previously received any comments suggesting that our servings are small. On the contrary, our customers often compliment us on the ample sizes of our portions, particularly for dishes like our pad thai and curry, where having less meat is highly unlikely. Could you kindly provide details about your seating arrangement that evening, including the table number? Furthermore, could you please elaborate on what happened with the laab dish? If you encountered any issues, it would have been beneficial to inform our staff immediately so that we could address them promptly. Posting a negative review without giving us an opportunity to rectify the situation on the spot may not be the most fair approach.

My family and I enjoyed the food the meat was a bit dry but the sauces make up for the dryness. However I absolutely loved the service the young waitress was so kind polite and helpful she was quick with getting our drinks and helped me with which meals are the best and popular . I will definitely be taking my family back here again thank you Thai villa stuff

Excellent service and really tasty, high quality food. We shared starters and five mains between six adults plus corkage for two bottles of wine ($15 corkage per bottle is a bit pricey considering the bottles were screw top and we were happy to pour our own!). $215 all up was very good value though. One of the best spots for dinner in Whanganui.

My football team had dinner here on the last night of our trip.
I don’t know what was better, the food or the service.
Both were fantastic. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming.
With 7 of us there we ordered allot of different meals (I’m vegetarian) and every dish received great feedback and every plate picked clean.
I’m already planning a trip back with other friends and told them we MUST have dinner there!!
Thank you to the lovely lady who was manager that night & her wonderful staff for taking such great care of us :)

Wow just got home from dining at The Thai Villa Restaurant.
The staff greeted us beautifully smiling 😃 Didn't take camera so no pictures to share. But the meal was spectacular. Entree was for 2 followed by Honey Roast duck. Yum.
Served on a sizzling hot plate. Beautifully presented. It was my birthday they came out singing happy birthday with a carrot cake drizzled with Caramel sauce & a candle with a wee glass of Baleys on the side. Was lovely & much appreciated. I highly recommend the Wanganui Villa Thai Restaurant.

What an amazingly wonderful experience! As I am new to NZ and Whanganui I was very trepidatious about eating out.
As a vegan I was not expecting much, but boy was I wrong! I need not have worried because tofu was offered with most dishes, and even being allergic to chillies didn't phase them!
I had sweet and sour tofu and it was delicious.
The staff were so friendly, helpful and efficient. I can't recommend them enough.
Looking forward to going back soon! Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

What a busy and well run establishment. We walked in, no booking, were immediately seated and seen to. Meanwhile, the 2 front of house women effortlessly juggled constant takeaway orders, uber eats meals, dealt politely with all the customers in the room, and took our orders. The food was great, the service was even better. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing service. Been here multiple times for dinner with family and friends and the food never disappoints. Favourite place in Wanganui! The staff are so kind and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure you get the best experience. The owners are quite often in there serving as well with their staff which I really love as it gives a homely cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend if you are passing through, you do not want to miss the fresh food and amazing service Thai Villa has to offer!

We had two appetizers, which were very good.
As main I had a hot plate/ grill called seafood island with sweet and sour sauce.
1. The main course was served while I was still eating the starter.
2. The seafood island was a desaster:
- there was no sweet and sour sauce at all
- the pineapple tasted dreadful
- the whole dish (seafood and vegetables) was tasteless, without any spicyness.
My complaint wasn't taken seriously at all. The manager justified, that nothing was wrong. I should have ordered somthing else. She admitted the usage of canned pineapple saying that they don't have the time to cut fresh ones.
I had to pay 32 NZ$ for this.
I will certainly not come again!

Dear Margaret,
Spice levels are determined by the customer when ordering the meal, if not stated, then no spice is added to the meal. The menu clearly states mild, med, hot and Thai hot. I read with a wry smile the statement "the manager admitted using canned pineapple". I think this is not a crime in a country that does not produce its own sweet pineapples. If we imported them from Australia, Thailand or Pacific Islands the price would increase further. Altho the meal was purported to be a disaster, it was however with the exception of the pineapples all gone!
